Feel free to listen to this everybody, but it is exclusively for the Friday Class to submit their answers to (because they missed doing this activity in their first session). The other classes should already know the correct answers. But... if you think you may have forgotten, why not just listen to it and test yourself?

Hi Sir, I am Nadya from your Friday class. ”Get to know your lecturer” is very interesting and also confusing at the same time! I feel that all your claims sound true and it successfully makes me confuse to decide which are false. But anyway, let’s hear about my opinion although I don’t think I can guess it true. Here it is: for number 1,2,3 it feels really weird, how do you manage to collect all ++1900 recordings from a US rock man? But it might be true though. For number 9,11,12 I guess they all might be true. I guess number 4,7,8,10 are wrong. The reasons are : firstly, it’s too dangerous if you ride a motorcycle without driving license. Secondly, there are more than 30 countries in Europe , how can you live more than 6 months in that every country? Thirdly, number 8 is too scary , you will have trauma after that tragedy. Lastly, for number 10 , I just feel that it cannot be true. That’s all my opinion Sir, sorry if I got it all wrong , keep posting fun things like this ! I love this content.
ReplyDeleteBased on your claims stated in the recording, all the claims sounded like it’s all facts that you have experienced before in your life. And you stated that 4 out of 12 statements are wrong, so here let me try to guess. For me, the statement that sounded somewhat “fake” is the one that you lose the pickled eggs eating contest, since the time given based on your statement is 20 minutes and how come an individual can only eat 13 eggs for 20 minutes and how come an eating contest lasted that long, usually eating contests lasted for about 5-10 minutes, that’s just too fishy for me. Second statement that’re sounded like wrong for me is the statement that you have lived in Japan for 8 years, however you cannot speak japanese? That claim is so wrong since eventhough that English language as a subject is mandatory at schools in Japan, the amount of Japanese that’re able to speak English fluently is so low, another evidence is you can see in every products made specifically for Japanese Markets like the JDM cars are mostly written in japanese for the buttons and the controls which requires the drivers and passengers to at least understand Japanese. And you said that you cannot speak and understand Japanese at all is not possible and for 8 years at least you have understand and speak a little bit of Japanese. Third statement is the one that you’ve married for 3x in your life and the first time you got married is when you’re in college which is sounded quite impossible since you got tons of tasks and assignments as well as your duty as a husband that required you to feed your family as well as to keep them happy, which’s quite impossible to be honest. Lastly is the statement that you have been working for 20 minutes in a joint and you got fired, it’s quite impossible for an individual to get job on the spot and got fired because of such unwillingness act towards a task given by the boss, since to be a chef or at least a fry cook requires a test beforehand and you said you were hired on the spot and got fired after 20 minutes of work which’s illogical in my opinion. I believe that these “facts” that you have stated there are those that’re wrong. But guessing like this it’s fun to be honest sir. Will look forward to more guessing pages like this sir!

ReplyDeleteI would like to start with telling you that I really enjoyed listening to these stories. I think it’s is hard to find out which are false, since they all sound like fairytales or scripts taken from a Tim Burton movie. Nevertheless I would like to share you my choices and I will explain them point by point:
7: I don’t think you lived in every European country in your life. I came to this conclusion by doing some math. You told us that you studied in England, so let’s say until you were 24. You also told us that you lived 8 years in Japan. You are married to an Indonesian woman for already 25, and you lived at least 15 years in Indonesia. Europe, without Kosovo an England, has 42 countries. This means that it would take you 21 years to live in every country. 24+8+15+21= 68. I don’t believe that you’re this old and even if you were, I don’t think you would still be working.
10: I don’t believe that you were in this plane crash. I googled and did find a crash on this particular day in Indonesia. However, you claimed to be in Yogyakarta for a wedding and this plane was departing from somewhere else.
8: I don’t know exactly why, but I don’t think that this story is true. It just sounds too strange and random. If it is true though, I would love to hear more about it next Friday.
6: I’m less certain about this one than I am of all of my answers above. Maybe it is just because I hope that this story is true. It reminds me of Leonardo DiCaprio in “Catch Me If You Can”. If this story turns out to be true, I would love to make some kind of (Bollywood) spinoff of the movie named earlier (if this doesn’t exist already).
Thank you for the excellent responses from Nadya, Naufal and Lima so far.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else care to try?
I will reveal the TRUTH about my lies later in the week.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, that first statement is so funny! All that editing really did pay off. I am laughing so hard from imagining You doing all of that. Even my brother get curious about it. I tell a little story story about You and he thinks You are a really cool Professor. Anyway lets continue to seperate the truth and the lie.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the false statements are 1, 6, 7, and 11. The first statement is a obvious false statement because there is so imaginary but at the same time it is so funny! But i do not know, maybe it is the truth. For the sixth statement it looks like a fun thing to do but it will cost so much money and for only three people renting a luxurious office and still having profit? I do not think so. The seventh statement to be honest, i am confused! I consider you have a liking on travelling so it is believable, I just choose this statement because the others look like they linked to each other quiet good especially 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10. The time background is so perfectly fit with each other, therefore i chose this one as a false statement. The eleventh statement is a false statement because from the ninth statement it seems You are a little bit picky for your food. Therefore i do not think you would be willingly eating a food like egg pickles.
That is all my opinions about Your statement Sir, and i wish we can know each other better in the future! Thank you!
After I listened to the recording i'm going to try to guess which of the 4 statements are untrue, although it's hard considering all of the statements are pretty convincing. So in my opinion, statements number 1, 3, 6 and 7 are misleading. And here are my explanations:
ReplyDelete1. I guess cooking curry for one of the member of the royal family is a bit deceptive. Because in my opinion royal family is very strict when it comes to choosing friends/association related to them. Whereas going to the same university as the royal family might be possible though
3. I just don't think collecting more than 1900 recordings of 1900 different concerts by one particular band is possible because i've searched and found no band has done that much performance.
6. I find it odd for a small company to fake phone calls, rent an office in a skyscraper building to deceive clients.
7. Living in every country in Europe for only 6 month is impossible. Europe is a big continent and it requires efforts, time, and money to move to every single one of the country thats available there.
Hi Mr. Adrien! I want to start by saying that you have really interesting stories to share. I didn’t feel bored at all while listening to the recording. In fact, I enjoyed listening to it. I’m not usually good at guessing these things, but I will try.
ReplyDeleteI think statements 1, 4, 7, and 8 are false. Whereas statements 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 12 are true. The reason why I think statement 1 is false, is because I think it’s highly unlikely for you to be in the same university as the prince. Also, it would be extremely weird, if you had actually hosted the cast and crew party at your house. It doesn’t really make any sense, especially if the prince was a part of it.
I think statement 2 is true, because having to take a living lobster with your hands, is just horrifying. Especially, if you have to do it on your first day. Statement 3 is not strange for me, because if you really love music, then I think it’s normal to have that many collections. And, I somehow can picture you being the type that loves music.
I think statement 4 is false. I think, if the police officer wouldn’t give you the license, it’s more likely for him to ask for money instead of English lessons, in exchange for the license. I know it’s actually very possible to drive without license for so many years, because my Malaysian friend experienced it first hand. Statements 5 and 6 seem true to me, because they’re actually less crazy than the other statements you claimed.
For statement 7, I think it’s impossible to live in every country in Europe except for one, especially when you gave us your marriage timeline. Other than that, you said you lived in each one for more than 6 months. I really don’t think that’s possible. Statement 8 really sounds like a story you made yourself. There are just so many things that do not add up. Especially, the part when you said they sprayed you with bleach. Therefore, I think statement 8 is false.
Statements 9 to 12 are things I actually can imagine being true. And, for statement 12, I think it would be even harder to believe, if you say you could speak Japanese. Because, it’s a really complicated language. A lot of my friends have studied Japanese for about 6 years, and are still unable to communicate using Japanese.
Among the 12 claims that you said, i personally think that claims 4,6,11,12
ReplyDeleteI found claim 4 impossible because in Indonesia, you can’t have access to motorbikes unless you have an Indonesian driving license or an International driving license. Indonesian police regularly do checkups on driver’s license especially to motorbike riders and it is impossible that during the 15 years, you didn’t meet any police checkups.
I Found claim 6 false because renting luxurious office space will not show that the company you are working in is big when there were only 3 people in it. I personally think customers will lose trust on the company since when they came, the office will not be as crowded as on the phone.
I found claim 11 false because in a competition, they will not provide you with that much time to finish the challenge. Giving the contestants more than 20 minutes to finish a jar of pickled eggs is too long.
I found claim 12 false because it is impossible that you live in a country for 8 years and didn’t even learn about the country’s language. Every day, we interact with other people and we can’t just interact with people in our circle. There should be times where you interact with locals who can’t speak English.
Hi sir! These claims are interesting and I can’t believe that there are only four false claims. I was trying to visualize it while listening to the scenes you were telling. I think that claim number 1 is just a make up story, just like claim number 6, 7, and 11. Number 1 would be the most unlikely situation where Prince Charles went to your house. Once again, I’m sorry if I get it wrong. Maybe from the 4 claims I’ve mentioned as the ones that tend to be wrong, some or all of them are actually true. Somehow I have a feeling that maybe those four claims are actually partially right and partially wrong. I think that you started with a true story but added an intentional twist at the end of it. Anyway, if it’s true that Prince Charles went to your house, could you invite him to UGM to give a mini lecture?
ReplyDeleteHi! My name is Kabik.
ReplyDeleteAnd I would like to share my opinions about all the statements.
First of all, all the claims you have said before is very interesting yet hard to believe.
Therefore, I want to claim that number 1 is not true because it sounds like you arranged this story way too perfect. Too beautiful that I, me, personally think that is not true.
Number 4 is even harder to believe, 15 years driving a motorcycle without license is too dangerous and I do not think people would do it.
For number 6, I found it impossible for you to do this kind of thing.
And the last one is number 12, I think it is not true because I think 8 years in Japan without learning Japanese language is a waste also for me it is necessary to be able speak Japanese to communicate with locals when you are needed to live there for such a long time.
Thats all from me.
Thank you.
Before I start telling you which 4 of your claims are false, I just want to say that this was really interesting. I was both really confused and intrigued. I think it was a really interesting way of getting to know someone. Okay so the claims that I think are fake are 1,4,7,12. Here are the reasons why I chose those claims as the claims that are wrong / fake. At first I thought the first one was real but then I remember how strict the royalty is about everything especially safety. Especially safety regarding the food he got to consume. I don’t think it was a hundred percent impossible but I just find it a bit too good to be true. The reason why I chose 4 as one of your false claims is because driving without a driving license for that amount of time is just way too dangerous to be true. Driving without a driving license for a few months is still bearable but how do you drive around town for over 15 years knowing you don’t have a driving license with you? It just seem impossible to me. Claim number 7 was a bit odd to me, how is it possible for you to live and work in every single country in the Europe especially for at least 6 months. The last one I picked as one of your claims that are fake is claim number 8. The reason why I picked number 12 is because, even if you didn’t study Japanese thoroughly there is no way you weren’t able to speak at least a little bit of Japanese. If you lived there for that amount of time there is no way you aren’t able to speak at least a decent amount of Japanese.
ReplyDeleteGood Afternoon Sir, My name is Fikri from your Friday class.
ReplyDeleteFirst, i am very interested when i first saw this article. I really want to hear about your life story. I would like to predict about the wrong statement, and i’ll try to guess which statement is correct and which isn’t.
The first statement is quite convincing as you are also a British man, same as The Royal Prince. I also believe that you can cook, although your second claim said that your worked as a cook and fired only 20 minutes after you start working. I laughed when i heard that you’re being fired because only you didn’t want to boil the lobster. I think that you are afraid of lobsters.
I see that you are a huge music fan also, because you already collected 1900 recordings, from 1900 different concerts. Although it sounds impossible, i still believe that you really collect that much of a recordings, from every different concerts.
The fourth claim about the motorcycle thing, i would count that as the false statement. In 15 years, you would’ve already stopped by the police, not only once, but probably twice or more. Also you’re a foreigner, and most of Indonesian Police likes to target the foreigners to be stopped, and asks them for the licenses, and if they don’t have the licenses, the police would asks them for money to let them off.
The fifth claim, i believe that you’ve been married for 3 times, as i know someone who already been married for 4 times, and now he already divorced. The office thing, is a nice idea to be done in the future, as in my opinion, it is counted as a business tactic, not a fraud. The claim about you have lived in almost all European country, is in my opinion, a false statement. It is almost impossible for me to do that, but if this is a true statement, i put my full respect on you because of your experience that i would want to do also.
Being mugged is one of the worst experience for everyone who has ever been in that situation. I am really sorry about the tragedy, but it already happened and just consider that as a lesson to be more careful in the future. The statement about being a vegan, i consider that as a true statement, and it is hard to stay on the vegan path. Merpati Flight 724, was taking off from Ambon, not from Jogjakarta, so it is a false statement in my opinion. Eating 20 eggs in 20 minutes is possible, and the statement that you couldn’t finish the eating competition is easy to believe in, because i also could’nt finish the competition if it was me who was eating, especially pickled eggs. I visited Japan in 2016 for 2 weeks, and i was able to communicate with them, but also in English and some extra body language. This in my opinion is a false statement, as you probably can speak, although a little bit, Japanese language.
I have to say that this is a really interesting way to “Get To Know Your Lecturer”. I’m not sure is I can guess those 4 false statement correctly or not, because you sounds very convincing but I’ll try my best. After listening to your story, I came to a conclusion number 1 is a false statement. Maybe it is true that you can cook Indian curry but cooking for the Prince Edward its just to imaginary and I do think is impossible because I think Prince Edward will have more than two bodyguards by his side. I do also think statement number 6 is a false statement because why must a company put fake voices to make it more crowded. Your statement number 7, I do think it is also a false statement because I think it’s impossible that you live in every single country in Europe more than 6 month each. And for the last false statement I do think its the statement number 12, because I do think if you at least live in Japan for 8 years you can speak in Japanese a little bit even thought maybe you didn’t master the whole. Knowing also that Japanese love their own culture and language, if you can’t speak Japanese while you live there for 8 years it’s a struggle because you can’t speak with the locals.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an unique way to "Get To Know Your Lecturer". I don't think that number 1, 7, 8 and 12 are true. My reason is that, for number 1, I just don't believe it somehow. I'm sorry if it sounds like I don't believe you from the start, but it is what it is. I mean doesn't Prince Edward control what he eat? Why would he ate Indian Curry in your house? I don't know how he lived but for sure it just doesn't seems right. For number 7, the reason I don't believe you is because after listening to you working in Perth, and you living in the UK, it just doesn't make sense that you've lived in all that countries. And for number 8, I do think you're lying because if it is right, you would feel traumatized because that tragedy was just too much. It is also so embarrassing to be honest. And last, for number 12, I don't think it is true because if you've lived in Japan for 8 years, you should have learned a little bit of Japanese atleast, the basic conversation or anything. Especially in Japan, people don't really speak English so that will be so hard on you if you don't speak Japanese.
