Five Types of Writing

This is what we can call a Communication Continuum which includes traits and examples of five types of writing, ranging from the connotative (having the power of implying or suggesting something in addition to what is explicit ~ e.g. creative writing) to the denotative (having the power of explicitly denoting, designating, or naming ~ e.g. technical writing).

  2. I think this article is very useful for us to distinguish between type of writing, to help us to know when to use certain type of writing. For me personally the writing that I’ll use mainly for the academic purposes are the expository, journalism and mainly in the technical writing if it is for academic purposes. If it is for personal record or just writing for fun, I’ll use either expressive or creative writing to tell my pretty interesting stories about my own experience. Writing my own stories are enhance by using the writing techniques which is the expressive writing, that helps me to tell my experience more expressively. I also like to write poems which is using creative writing techniques, at first I only made poems in Indonesian language but sometimes I like to try new things and makes poems in English. That’s all regarding this several writing techniques.

  3. Even though Mr Adrian already told in the comment that we weren’t asked to put comment on this post. I am sorry Mr Adrian but I wanted to comment on this post, so I hope you don’t mind. This post actually remind me of UN (Ujian Nasional) material of English subject. This list makes us easier to differentiate kinds of writing. Because, I honestly think that every writing needs creativity. When we write, we try to convert thoughts into words to be read or to be listened. By reading this list, we know that there are writing that needs a technique. Journalism also help us to keep up with the recent news packed in a creative way. In newspaper or magazine, we can really see their creativity and passion in papers. Meanwhile, ideas come suddenly. So, I think, when we purchase magazine, we aren’t just purchase the tints or papers, but also ideas.
