Interesting lecture on procrastination

  1. I strongly agree with what Tim Urban said. As I am also a procrastinator, I totally agree with the idea that a procrastinator tends to choose to do things that easy and fun rather than doing whatever makes sense and later when the deadline is coming, they start to panic. In my personal experience, what triggers me to start working is actually not the deadline but the public embarrassment that will occurred if I fail to do the work on time. I realize it is a horrible example of motivation, especially when I entered the university and there are a lot of assignments. In this advanced level of education, people are well planned for their future and as a student, we need to have a self- motivation and diminish the idea of procrastination. When we keep putting off our task, it is not only it will be considered as a late submission but the task will not have the optimal outcome. Therefore, we need to stop procrastinating because as it mentioned by Tim, “How can we achieve our dream if we not able to start achieving our dream”.

  2. This video hits me hard. Procrastination which means an action of delaying or postponing something does describe myself on facing big challenges or huge problems. The term of 'instant gratification monkey' made by Tim Urban is insanely accurate on how sometimes I only look forward in the fun of an activity. It really shows how laziness and coziness of a situation make people stop to dream bigger. Even though there were already lots of sayings about how to fight procrastination such as "No success came without sacrifice and hard work" and “Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” but still the work realized afterwards is the hard part. In this part of my life, which is the university life, I think that you won’t survive if you still stick as a procrastinator. This is the right time for a change, threw away laziness and fight procrastination. All in all, Tim Urban really did a great job on demonstrating how people should flew away from being a procrastinator in order to stay in the lane and embrace the dreams.

  3. By wanting to get out from the procrastinator zone and reach your goals, I will suggest some steps that could be useful for all of you and also myself:

    1. Write in a piece of paper of what you want to do and what to be.

    2. Find out what is the path on reaching the goal.

    3. Write down the reason why you want to do this and what will happen if you start procrastinating again.

    4. Think of what is the benefit for yourself, your surroundings and the world.

    5. Stick the paper on the wall of your room & APPLY.

This thing I call as a ‘Promise Paper’ is what I am currently using to change myself. I woke up everyday checking at the paper because I believe that it is my guardian angel that kept me in the right path. You could try it if you want to, I believe it wil help you at least a little. To conclude, the most important thing is stop being a procrastinator, it sucks.

  4. As a real procrastinator, I feel that the TED Talk video is a hundred percent accurate. Although personally, I do not procrastinate as extreme as Tim Urban did. Moreover, the video did represent the brain of the procrastinator correctly. In terms of procrastinating, I think everybody had ever done that in the past for at least one time. Procrastinating is so hard to battle but everybody must have their own maximum tolerance and also their own stance towards procrastination. As students, we are obliged to study and to meet the minimum standard to be able to graduate. There are also homework and other activity that we should finish beside academic things. In my opinion, students have to manage their time proportionally between studying and doing other leisure activities. It is all about the priority scale; what you prioritize will comes at the top of the things you should get done. If one is capable of doing this, I am certainly sure that he or she could manage their time as they wanted.

  5. Talking about procrastination, well I totally agree that everyone must have done being a procrastinator. Anyway, In this comment, I just want to share a little bit about my worst experience of being a procrastinator. When I was in the 11th grade of high school, specifically it was the first week of the academic year, so I was still very in touch with my holidays that I can’t even move on. Which then it makes me really unprepared and doesn’t seem too care for all the upcoming school tasks. One day, in my chemistry class, the teacher gave the students bunch of assignment papers that are mandatory to be finish as the requirement for taking the summative assessment. Well in that time, all I know is that the assessment will be held after one or two months after; which is still in a long time. So then I didn’t working on all of the practice papers because I’m just too lazy to do it and yes, I am procrastinated. But then, because of the procrastination, I didn’t pay attention on the schedule of the assessment as well. So, until the day of the assessment, I came into the room with bare hands, with none of finished practice papers, with no preparation at all. Then, the teacher didn’t let me do the assessment in that day, and not even giving me any second chance to do the test. Literally, I was failed in that semester that I got no grades for that topic. Since that day, I promised to myself that I will never ever again let my instant-gratification monkey in my head take control of my brain if I got any upcoming deadlines.

  6. When I first watch the video, I didn’t even know what’s the definition of procrastination. But after I finished watching it, I know that it’s an act of delaying something important to a later date and doing something not so important at that time. And honestly, this video hits home real hard than I could even imagine. Because when you realize that you only have little amount of time to, for example, do your homework or your assignments, it’s going to put a heavy strain on your body and your mental state. Believe me, I’ve been in that situation for a lot of times. And I think that each one of us has gone through that kind of experience at least once. So how could we throw away this “Instant Gratification Monkey” from our brain and let the rational decision-maker take the wheel? In my opinion, you can’t really throw away that monkey from your brain because it’s a part of your personality and even if you try to ignore it, it’ll lurk in the shadow of your mind. I know it’s hard to not let that monkey control the wheel of our mind. And if we have a clear goal of what we wanted to be or what we have to do, we have no choice but to fight that obstacle so we could reach our destination. I mean life wouldn’t just gave you an instant achievement just like you made an instant noodle, you have to struggle to reach that goal. And if you do achieve it, it’s worth the price.

  7. This is reflecting on my life journey, what Tim Urban said was right. I believe there are so many of us trapped in a procrastinating zone and we're not really aware of it because that "instant gratification monkey" always succeeded on making us feel happy and comfortable with what we are doing. I really like the topic but when it did come to a moment when he said about how much time do we spent procrastinating. It does ring me a bell, well for me procrastination do not always bring us to the regretful zone yet sometimes procrastinating bring us to learn more, in my case I do Instagramming when I feel tired and had enough of work but instead of searching gossips I tend to look for the fun fact and it really help me out sometimes like when there's a quiz and we all expected to be a broad-minded student it really does help me out.

  8. At first, I didn’t even know what procrastination means. I thought it was something boring that I didn’t even experience. But it turns out, I have been doing it a lot. Seriously, a lot! To delay something or to postpone something is something that I do frequently. Just because a task still has a long deadline, I refuse to start doing it. Even when its nearing the deadline, and I also have to finish other tasks, I chose to sleep because I feel that I can finish my task in the morning or at midnight. We have to let this “Instant Gratification Monkey” out of our mind because it is the opposite way of chasing our dreams. I realized that postponing tasks won’t make anything easier. Instead, it will make us more hectic especially nearing deadlines of the task. I suggest that we make a life goal and commit to reach to that goal. Commitment is needed to go out from procrastination world.

  9. This is why we always manage our time properly. We must know what our priorities are, differentiate the important things and the not so important things in our life. Being the millenial generation, we live in a world where everything in our life are made with an easy, efficience, and effective way. With this situation, most of us underestimate the time limit for certain things. If we got an assigment due in a week, we always say 'meh, there's still a week left, i'll start tomorrow' but in fact, we didn't. On the next day, we thought the same thing, in the day after, and the day after, etc. This cycle will continue until the night before the assigments were due, that we will actually start and finish the assignment in a minimum time compared to the actual time that was given for us. So, I think this is a great video for us that haven't realize our bad behaviour before and start making changes in our lives. No need to make big changes, just small steps that we do with consistency that'll make big difference in our lives.

  10. The only thing I can say about this video is its pretty much describing me when it comes doing my homework, but instead one monkey I have two monkeys. Basically, every time I want to start working on something will distract me and the monkeys start telling me “five more minutes” all the time. I think procrastination is like a virus that widespread very fast and hard to cure, even SpongeBob SquarePants had a whole episode about procrastination. I have been a victim by my own procrastination multiple time in my life and its always giving me a hard time to finish my work in time. So, I create a strategy to counter this bad habit of mine. First, I move everything that not related to my work away from me, not like turning off my phone but like physically put it some where else where my eyes can’t see it. And then I will give my self a time limit to do my work so I can feel the pressure of time. Its works well for me, maybe it will also work for all the poor soul that infected last stage procrastination like myself.

  11. In my opinion, procrastinating is every student’s biggest problem. I can say that way because procrastinating is one of my biggest problem too. So that this video is very relatable with university students’s life or just every student. Everytime I want to start being productive and do all the task early before the deadline, there is always the laziness that come and that laziness mostly defeat my eagerness to be productive. It’s just that procrastinating feels very nice, because I always feel like there is still a lot of time. But I do know that this procrastinating is giving me a lot of problem. There is one time that I collected my task late because I was procrastinating too much. And because of that, I’ve always give myself a target, just a simple one, so that I can fulfill it and not just become a target that will never be fulfilled. I feel that giving myself a target is a good thing and works for me. So, we all should overcome our own weakness such as procrastinating, with finding our own way that works the best for ourselves.

  12. While watching this, there’s a quote that ringing loudly in my mind. “the time that you enjoy wasting, is not wasted.” It really makes a good argument for everything that Tim Urban said. I never feel like I’m wasting my time by doing things I want to do, there are always a risk and consequences. For most of us, risk and consequences is considered as a bad thing and people always trying hard to avoid it. But actually, in my understanding, being smart, healthy and any other good thing also consequences for things that we do including studying, working out, etc. This understanding support my believe that we should not regret for everything that we do and we should considered our choices. I personally never regretted every choices that choose even if it considered as a mistakes. There’s always a good thing that we can have from it. One thing that we should avoid by being a procrastinator is being an irresponsible person not only for people around you but also your grade. We should realized that we need to be responsible for everything that we’ve done. I believe that if we always clear our mess, being a responsible person, we won’t have the pressure and the stress so we will remain calm ad get our thing done, even if we’re considered as a procrastinator.

  13. Ironically, I always find myself watching this video every time I’m procrastinating. And with every time I watch this video, the less funny it becomes to me, and the more serious I realize how big of a problem procrastination really is. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve allowed the Instant Gratification monkey to take over instead of doing assignments that count as a large percentage of my grades, and felt an overwhelming amount of guilt and regret as I head to bed because of how unproductive I had spent my day. Although I have yet to find an effective method that works on getting rid of this habit, I’m getting there. I set myself up reminders of the tasks and assignments I have to work on every day, I push out any forms of distraction from my vision, and looking out for any signs where I might procrastinate. I find that it’s the little things that I find that are the most effective.

  14. I’ve watched a lot of TED-Ed videos but not this one, it kept flashing on my playlist but I kept ignoring it due to the long duration. Now that I’ve watched it, I find it helpful and extremely useful. As I go through college, I find myself in an environment of constant tension because I keep dreading deadlines. But eventually, I became accustomed to them and the so called Instant Gratification Monkey became more prominent, as evidenced by how late I’m making this comment.
My experience as a procrastinator has proven useful in college as it reminded me of the inevitable consequences of procrastinating. It came from my time in high school, where I purposely skipped out on many assignments and homework. I still performed as expected in exams, but my habit of procrastinating everyday assignments have proven detrimental.
I now face this issue every day and every week in university, even to the point in which my friend reminded me that the so called holiday yesterday, was not in fact a holiday, but actually as he put it, “ Class at Home”. I found myself working hours earlier today to complete my assignment due tomorrow, and coming to campus two hours earlier than everyone else just to begin doing my other assignment, which I finished and submitted earlier today, due today.
Another effect of my procrastination, is how I tend to make comments on this blog. I would normally finish by this sentence because it already exceeded its 150 words minimum, but I continued because I personally think that this topic is very interesting, and that I sincerely make this comment purely out of my own intentions. In my opinion, everyone should find a balance between work and leisure. Procrastination is okay in the short term, but I don’t recommend it to be something to make a habit of.

  15. Is it a coincidence that I was procrastinating on doing the comments for the blog and suddenly I came across this post? Nothing’s a coincidence I suppose, just God’s beautiful way of reminding His subjects to not waste every second He grants. And as a Master Procrastinator myself I gladly admit that Tim Urban knew exactly what is going on in my head. Procrastinating is something I have been trying to rid myself of, but in doing so, I procrastinated! For instance, if I say “I shall never be on slack again…” I’ll give a brief pause “….starting from tomorrow”. See? Procrastinating, disturbingly, is becoming my second nature, probably not second, but it’s not far away from the original nature. I am not sure if I procrastinate out of the laidback attitude when I am not in the mood for something, or if I seek only for the adrenaline rush that we all get when the due time for an assignment or a homework or a test is only 20 minutes out and we’re still trying to figure out the first question, while there are probably 25 questions, and all of them are advanced calculus questions. People may find this peculiar but I think I enjoy the adrenaline rush when I race against time, though I don’t do this everytime, but sometimes, well, it gets my heart beating. I strongly implore that none of you attempt to do this.

  16. Procrastination is indeed one of the biggest enemy that were ever faced by almost every single millennials in th is era, and it is also my biggest enemy for the last eighteen years of my lifetime. I find it difficult to find someone who’s not attached to any procrastination these days, because i have met a lot of people and most of them, even the genius one were seemed to be having this habit attached to them. I feel like this habit have become some sort of addiction for most people because we are now living in the modern civilisation era where everything can be accessed pretty easily and where digital entertainment has spread rapidly throughout the world. These easy accessibility then will turn into a big distraction that will pull us off the main track and prevent us from doing the things that we are suppose to do. Therefore if you don’t want to be a procrastinator, you have to practice on not relying too much on the modern entertainment (social media, youtube, games, etc.), which seemed to be extremely hard even for my self.

  17. I think that what Tim Urban said is true. It is undeniable that I'm a procrastinator.; I always postpone doing my assignments. There are times where I need to relax, and when that time comes, no matter how hard I force myself to do it, the “Instant Gratification Monkey” will take over my wheel, and therefore choose to be laying on my bed with my phone or laptop watching movies or eating. Sometimes I choose to ignore the responsibilities I have and doing things that I find more comfortable because it is more pleasant that way. However, when the deadline for the work is coming, I started to panic and tried to have done it as fast as I can, which resulted not at best. This can stop us from reaching our dream, and therefore procrastination should be avoided. For me, it is hard to fight against procrastination, but we have to for our bright future ahead.

  18. I can say that I am counted as one of the people whose brain wheel controlled by the monkey, sometimes. I wish I was not. But reality check, back to three weeks before today, I uploaded my EWS Blog Comments usually on Thursday which means the (almost) last day of the deadline (Friday at 10 am). So, it kindly represent my two first setences. But, some days I try my best to finish all of my task or list to do far before the deadline. I am going to keep doing that and try my best, so wish me luck. Tim Urban mentioned about a relatable example which is “non-deadline things”. I think, non-deadline projects are more about ourselves. How do we manage time and make some priorities, even a journal. For your information, back when I was in high school, there is a semester that my homeroom’s teacher asked us to make a journal about our daily life. So, I think that’s a nice idea!

  19. As a student, I have to say that I am a serial procrastinator. In High School, I’m no stranger to pulling off all-nighters to finish papers or homeworks just a few hours before the deadline. As a result, I forged an inseparable relationship with coffee and Kratingdaeng. To this day, I consider pulling an all-nighter as one of the most stressful endeavors I’ve ever undertook. Why? It is because I have to juggle the pressure of finishing my work before the deadline and the pressure of wanting to sleep. Also, as a person who cannot tolerate much caffeine, having to drink cheap robusta instant coffee like Kapal Api means my heart rate increases significantly, making me even more anxious to finish the task on time. Therefore, I really want to change my behavior in college and stop procrastinating. One way I can think of to stop me from procrastinating and give me incentive to do my work is to think of the spare time free from anxiety I can get if I finish my tasks way before the deadline.

  20. In my opinion, this TED-Ed video was really fascinating to watch. Procrastination is also an unusual topic to discuss. What caught my attention in the first place is the chart about how procrastinators finish their paper or assignment. They would delay their work until the day before the due date or hours before the paper is due. Indonesian students usually call this work ethic “SKS” or sistem kerja selamam where students try to finish their work the day before it is due. As an Indonesian student, I think that this work ethic has been implemented in my daily routines. No matter how much free time I have I would end up spending those time surfing the internet or chatting with my friends. I strongly agree with the statement that everyone is a procrastinator no matter how hard people try to be diligent there’s always a part of us that like to delay our tasks and finish them on the last minute. Although procrastinating is a “fun” thing to do we have to stop making excuses for ourselves and actually start doing something useful. I do admit that it might be hard to start doing things ahead of time but I believe with determination and perseverance we can totally change our work ethics and be a productive individual.

  21. I believe in what Tim Urban said that all of us here are procrastinator were right. I could probably say that this procrastinating term had got me since I was in my junior high. When home works were getting piled up, I tend to procrastinate instead of doing it one by one. My mind was like choosing the fun and easy stuff just like Tim said, until The Panic Monster comes. This procrastinating situation may come every day in our life. For instance, this morning, I chose to do my groceries shopping first rather than finishing this EWS homework, it is procrastinating the EWS homework, since my groceries shopping weren’t actually that necessary. I think what procrastinators need now is The Panic Monster to come way longer before the deadline. So then the works that have deadline could be done far before it should’ve been. Us millennials, have our biggest “instant gratification monkey” called Instagram (or is it just me? I don’t know), and what I usually do to get rid of the monkey is by deleting the application. It actually works for me since my works that I should be doing were done after I deleted it. So, yeah, a little pro-tip from me.

  22. I am a huge fan of TED talks and this one was hilarious! I was laughing so hard through the whole video because I used to procrastinate a lot. Do not misunderstand me; I am not perfect and still falling in the same monkey dilemma. However, I have learned with the time how to fight against those negative habits of not being productive. In my first semester of University, I screw up my semester because I star to study for my exams in the last hours. That experience made me feel so miserable that I decided to change my bad habits and I started to look for some solution.
Some hacks I use to avoid procrastination are the following:
    1. Plan my study: I try to organize myself with all the things I have to do, and I planned a concrete schedule of what I am going to do, when and for how long. Creating a timeline with specific deadlines help me to have a better overview of my progress.
    2. Reward myself: Human work better with incentives, therefore, I like to reward myself with some food or a nice free time once I get to finish one of my compromises.
    3. Exercise: I have discovered that the days I worked out, I am more motivated and can be more productive.
I have seen a huge improve in my life by following this three hacks, and I just can recommended to you.

  23. After watching this video, it made me think about my life. I think what Tim Urban said was correct. I also think that most of us are trapped in a procrastinating place or situation. And sadly, most of us who are trapped in a procrastinating zone are not aware of it since the instant gratification monkey always able to succeed on making us feel great and happy. The instant gratification monkey also always able to make us feel comfortable with what we are doing. The thing that I like most about this topic is that it made me reflect on my life. When Tim Urban said about how much time do we spent procrastinating, it made me realize that procrastinating don’t continually convey us to the remorseful zone yet here and there procrastinating bring us to take in more. From my experience, I use Instagram when I am bored and tired. So I think that Instagram is my get-away on the daily life. I also use it for searching on the latest gossips, to watch cooking videos, and to shop online. I find Instagram is useful for me.

  24. Procrastination is a behaviour of delaying something that is important. As a procrastinator myself, whenever I got assignment or homework, I usually do it the night before the deadline or even the morning before I go to school/college. For me, it is so hard to get rid of the instant gratification monkey inside my brain, but I’m planning to minimalize this monkey’s action by starting to work on assignment days before the deadline. I really think that procrastination is an interesting behaviour because when someone procrastinates, he/she loses interest completely on his/her assignment but gain interest fully on something that is not relevant at the moment. For example, I once procrastinate on doing some assignments by watching how rubber bracelet is made. I really think that procrastination is not necessarily a bad thing, because it sometimes gives you information about unnecessary things. With that aside, I’m still trying to get rid of this behaviour because working on assignment the night before the deadline is seriously a pain in the neck.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would say that the reason why many procrastinators would wait until the last day prior to the due date before finally doing the tasks or assignments that they were asked to do weeks ago is because they see the distractions in their brains to be originating from their Rational Decision-Makers alone. This basically ignores the presence of any Instant Gratification Monkeys that are in their brains. Thus, a solution can easily be derived from the concept that Tim Urban has brought to the table through his speech in the video, which is to assume or to believe that every single distraction that prevents you from doing your work comes from a different entity called the Instant Gratification Monkey which lurks and never leaves your brain. Therefore, we’re talking about developing a different mindset here. Next, with that in mind, you should begin to see yourself as an embodiment of only professional qualities (Rational Decision-Maker) and that for every single distraction that strikes, comes from your nemesis called the Instant Gratification Monkey. Hence, adopting this way of thinking or way of perceiving things will force you to believe that procrastination is no longer an internal matter of conflicting motivations, but rather a virtually external matter between you and a different being. You can ignore someone, but you can never ignore yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Procrastination is an act of postponing one’s work to do something else that prohibits a person from finishing one’s work. Just like what Mr. Tim Urban had said in his video, that the minds of procrastination are consist of three major characters. The first one is the Instant Gratification Monkey, who is responsible for keeping you off track from finishing your work. Next, is the Rational Decision-Maker, which is responsible for making up the rational decision to finish your assignment. Last, it’s the Panic Monster who terrify the Instant Gratification Monkey, so you can get back on track on finishing your assignment. However, what captured my attention was not how procrastination mindset work and the character that took part in procrastinating, but now there are two kinds of procrastinators, deadline, and non-deadline. To sum it all up, the non-deadline procrastination proved to me to be the worst out of the two because it could lead to consequences, like long-term regrets and happiness. This long-term procrastination also leads us in delaying our dreams or things we hope to achieve in the future. By saying that, Urban tried to point out that we shouldn’t procrastinate in our life since it only leads us into being a spectator in each of our own lives. So, the moral of Tim Urban’s speech is, if you want to start on something just do it, don’t postpone it.

  27. I one hundred percent can relate to what Tim Urban went through. Back when I was a sophmore student in highschool I used to procrastinate way more than the average student should have done. The funny thing is the main reason behind my procrastination is because of how addicting it was. In its own way, it felt like as if i was on a thin line between live or death and yet at that time I kept surviving eventhough the score that I gain was basicly average. It felt like i was able to do anything in a really short time, making me lazier than ever. Entering Senior Year, I knew that I have to stop procrastinating or atleast procrastinate less, so I tried to finish my works one week before due time instead of just two days. And during the senior year it was somewhat fine. Sadly, even with 1 week of time, in college the panic monster finally showed up. It happened on the third week of a class when I have to present a presentation on the fourth week with a friend. it turns out my presentation supposed to be on the next day by myself because of some students leaving the class. I tried to finish the presentation in one night, and for some reason I was able to finish it, yet my body just stopped working and I slept during the time of the class basicly missing the whole presentation. Thankfully the lecturer was nice enough to give me a second chance on the next week. So at the end of the day don’t even think about procrastinating.

  28. Since I was in high school, I tend to procrastinate. I always do something not really that important at that time rather than something that’s important with an upcoming deadline. I have been trying to change this bad habit of mine since right now I’m a college student and have various assignment, but in the end I always failed to improve myself. As I watched the video above, I realize that’s it’s true about the ‘instant gratification monkey’ explained by Tim Urban. I only wanted to do fun and easy things rather than pushing myself to do an important assignment, other than that I also think it’s maybe I’m not comfortable enough to do the assignment and I’m lack of motivation. In the other hand, my uncontrolled laziness is also the main problem why I am a procrastinator all these time. In the end, the video hit me hard when Tim Urban said “How can we achieve our dream if we are not able to start achieving our dream” that’s when I knew I need to stop procrastinating and start to do all my assignment in order to meet the deadline.

  29. Procrastination is like a disease. It decreases our productivity, prevents us from getting our work done and it is also contagious. Just like a bacteria or virus, it can be found anywhere for what matters is whether we are immune to it or not. I find the Ted Talk very entertaining but at the same time very eye opening as Tim Urban managed to remind me that I also have this procrastination disease. In this digital era, procrastination becomes very easy because distractions are everywhere. Even when we are doing our essay on google docs, it only takes a few seconds to open a new tab, go on youtube and find ourselves watching random irrelevant videos. For me, the biggest obstacle is that it takes so little effort to start procrastinating and so much to end it. Thankfully, my panic monster always manage to come at the right time. When my panic monster starts its action, anxiety kicks in and my rational decision maker will start to take control.

Some tips that works for me to avoid procrastination:
    1. Set a goal and stay determined
    2. Find a comfortable learning environment. Know your learning style and find an environment that supports your learning style. For me, I study best at my own room or at a cozy cafe.
    3. Turn off your phone. Phone really make a difference when studying. Studying near my phone has taught me that I will always end up scrolling my instagram timeline or watching irrelevant youtube videos.

  30. Mr. Coen, reading this article reminds me of our conversation before the mid-term exams. Procrastination comes from the Latin language "pro" which means "forward", forward, prefer and "crastinus" which means "tomorrow". So from the origin of the word procrastination is to prefer to do its job tomorrow. People who do procrastination are called procrastinators. Procrastination is deliberately delaying the desired activity even though knowing that the delay can produce adverse effects. I conclude that the notion of procrastination can be viewed from a variety of perspectives, namely 1). procrastination is every act to postpone doing a task without considering the purpose and reason for delay 2). Procrastination as a behavior pattern (habit) that leads to trait and delays that are done is already a response that settles someone in the face of a task and is usually accompanied by irrational beliefs 3). Procrastination as a personality trait, not only delaying behavior but involving interrelated mental structures.
In the Academic field, quite often the behavior of procrastination is seen among students. According to Ferrari et al (1995), as a delaying behavior, academic procrastination can be manifested in certain indicators and observed through certain characteristics such as: Delays to start completing the task at hand
,Delays in completing tasks, because of doing other things that are not needed,
    and many more.

    1. Personally, I still tend to procrastinate, most notably in the weekly English Writing Skill assignments. This is mostly due to the fact that I was lazy at most times and found it difficult to prioritize objectives in time management. The other thing attributed to this is the fact that I'm such a big believer in delayed gratification. I tend to procrastinate things under the belief that there will be a greater reward or result if we wait, fighting the temptation of gaining the immediate one.A person's ability to delay gratification have a basis of relationship to other similar skills such as patience, impulse control, self-control and willpower, all of which are involved in self-regulation. Broadly, self-regulation encompasses a person's capacity to adapt the self as necessary to meet demands of the environment. Although these traits above are positive in nature, delayed gratification could be negative if used in academic courses or assignments. I myself will try to be better and avoid temptations of procrastination and delayed gratification.
