Because his job keeps him up until midnight most weeknights, he schedules most of his study time for the mornings before classes. And makes sure he never takes a class before 10 a.m.
Unfortunately (for his grades), most mornings he's so tired, he just automatically punches the snooze alarm and sleeps at least another hour.
On a good morning, he drags himself out of bed and sits down at his desk to study.

Today seems to be a good morning. He's up by 7, has two cups of coffee, and opens his business ethics text. But Jim, who recognized long ago that he was not a morning person, finds his attention wandering. All too soon, he ends up nestling his head on his book and nodding off . . . until his roommate shakes him awake and informs him he's already late for his first class.
Well, maybe it wasn't going to be such a good morning after all.
Jim's classes end around 1 p.m. He treats himself to lunch in the student union building and, afterwards, to an hour of video games. "I deserve a break," he convinces himself. "This day has been totally frustrating so far."
Filled with resolve to catch up on all of his school work before he goes to his job, he heads for the library. As he walks, he begins to mentally catalog the various readings, papers, and tests he has to work on. He quickly slows his pace when it suddenly dawns on him that catching up before the end of the term would require five or six hours of studying . . . every day . . . including weekends.

As he pulls his books out of his backpack, a scrap of notepaper flutters out. It's the piece of paper he wrote his history assignment on two weeks ago . . . the term paper that's due in two days!

Not only has he not started it yet, his history book is back at his apartment. He decides he'd better run home to get itthe next two hours is the only time he has to work on it before it's due.
On his way home, he runs into a friend. The two of them commiserate about their impossible schedules. By the time Jim finally gets home, he's decided to ask for an extension on his history assignment. It will be the second extension he's asked for, which means he's got two overdue assignments, one other term paper, and four finals to prepare for . . . in the next two weeks.
There's one hour left. "How can I do a paper in 60 minutes?" Jim groans. Deciding he can't, he throws his book bag on his desk and surrenders to the time pressures. There's no way he can get any real studying done in just an hour. He crumples on the couch, turns on the TV, and, as the audience gasps at the sight of a 350-lb transvestite sumo wrestler on Jerry Springer, asks himself, "Why is my life so difficult?"

For Jim, school has become a burden, a time-eating monster that has taken control of his life.
Jim isn't a particularly bad or unusual student. He isn't irresponsible or lazy. He really does want to do well, to get good grades, to prepare himself for a successful career. He's just run out of time.
Let's face it: We all experience problems with time.
We can't control it or slow it down.
We need more of it. And don't know where to find it.
Then we wonder where it went.

Not knowing how to effectively manage our time, we just continue to use the "natural" approach.
The natural approach to time is to simply take things as they come and do what you feel like doing, without schedule or plan. What the heck it worked when we were kids. It was easy to live from day to day and never really worry about "where our time went."

You played when you felt like playing you didn't make appointments to play with your friends. There were no deadlines if your model airplane or dollhouse didn't get done by the end of the week, no problem. You didn't even own a calendar if you had a piano recital coming up, it was your mom's responsibility to remind you to practice, make sure your good clothes were cleaned, and drive you to the recital hall on time.
In fact, sometimes there seemed to be too much time too many hours before school was over . . . too many days before summer vacation . . . too many weeks before birthdays . . . too many years before we could learn to drive.
Childhood was a simpler time.
Unfortunately for all of us Peter Pans, there comes a point when the "take-every-day-as-it-comes" approach just doesn't work. For most of us, it hits in high school. (If you're in high school and don't know what I'm talking about, don't worry you'll find out your first day of college.)
Why? Because that's when we begin to establish goals that are important to us, not just to our parents.

We become more involved in extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, or clubs, and must schedule practice times, games, and meetings, while still fulfilling our class obligations and home responsibilities.
In college, we begin thinking about our careers. We take classes that will prepare us for that career, may even try to find a part-time job to give us some exposure to it.
To achieve our goals, whether it's performing in the annual school musical or becoming an architect, we must commit ourselves to the many steps it takes to get there.
We must plan. We must manage our time.
Whether you're a high school student just starting to feel frazzled, a college student juggling five classes and a part-time job, or a parent working, attending classes, and raising a family, a simple, easy-to-follow time management system is crucial to your success. And despite your natural tendency to proclaim that you just don't have the time to spend scheduling, listing, and recording, it's also the best way to give yourself more time.

I'm sure many of you reading this are struggling with your increasing responsibilities and commitments. Some of you, like Jim, may be so overwhelmed you've just given up. Those of you who haven't probably figure it's your fault if you just worked harder, spent more time on your papers and assignments, set up camp in the library then everything would work out.
So you resign yourselves to "all-nighters," cramming for tests and forgetting about tune-consuming activities like eating and sleeping. Trying to do everything even when there's too much to do without acquiring the skills to control your time, is an approach that will surely lead to burn out.

From this article above, we can see that time management is the important thing in our life. I’m very amazed by my friend that appear to focus on finishing the goals that they have set for themselves—regardless of whether it becoming more healthy, or taking a shot at their side-hustle, or coming back to school as they juggle family and work commitments. I know some of us have a big dreams that we want to achieve, but lack of time tends to distance us from accomplishing our dream. In this way, I began to get some information from my goals-oriented friends how do they manage their time and here is the thing that they needed to state. So, they always wake up early in the morning, they use their lunch hour to do small task (replying email or text), they schedule what they might do on their weekends, and used their vacation to work on their project. The point is when you are serious about your dream, you would use every bit of time that belongs to you.
ReplyDeleteI have said it many times to my best friend: “Don’t you feel like we need more than 24 hours per day?” and I know I am not the only one feeling like we are lacking time to do things. Sometimes I put the blame on my perfectionist side—to do things perfectly without a single scratch. The other times I hate myself for not being able to manage my time properly. Especially in college, students have to think everything altogether—assignments, career, part-time job, events, etc. Just three days ago I was still doing my task at 2 in the morning while I had class at 7. It was frustrating and I want to avoid doing tasks a day before due date in the future. So I reviewed my past and evaluated my performance. Making a schedule is apparently very essential, but there’s one thing that’s more important: to follow the schedule. It is also crucial to immediately do the homework that’s been given (better to do it at the same day). Cramming for exams sucks too, so it’s highly recommended to study earlier if the materials are plentiful.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I am also struggling with time management, time flies away very fast in my opinion. I always tried to make a schedule to manage my time, the hardest part is not making the schedule, but when I tried to follow and keep up with the schedule, I always found myself being late for one or two hours. As I get older, it feels like keeping up with time is harder and harder, when I was younger, it feels like I had a lot of time, maybe it is based on reality that when we get older we get more responsibilities. Laziness also comes in factor. I always felt that I am more diligent in junior high school, rather than at high school, I consider myself as a deadliner. But now, as I entered the college world, I realized that I cannot postponed my responsibilities anymore, because I felt that we had less time at college and much bigger tasks.
ReplyDelete“Don’t forget to manage your time even better and more efficient since you are already a college student. You’re no longer a high school student anymore.” Those word of advice came from my parents when I left Jakarta because, to be honest, time management wasn’t one of my best forte when I was still in high school. And up until now, I still try to organize my daily schedule so it won’t put a heavy strain on myself. I believe that we, as human being, should have a goal in mind and we should do whatever we can to achieve it, albeit in a good way. But to do that, we have to stay focus by controlling our own schedule and organize the time we have. Because if you lost the time you had and keep on delaying the work you have, you’ll get further apart from the goal you dream of. I know for some people it’s hard to arrange their time schedule and we don’t really have much of a choice, but if we really want to succeed and achieve our goal, we have to do it. Otherwise it’ll be nothing more than a dream we always wanted to have.
ReplyDeleteI've read an article once, that said, in life we gotta choose 2 between these 3 options: great social life, good grades, and enough sleeping time. So if you want to have great social life and enough time sleeping, you won't have good grades. Well, I won't say having all three of it would be an impossible thing, but it would be a very difficult to do these days. All three of them are important. I don't think anyone likes the idea of having to choose between good grades or great social life, because both of them are equally important. But having enough sleep time is also important. Why? if you don't get enough sleep, you won't have the energy to do either one. Everyone is given the same amount of 24 hours per day in their lives, the difference is in how each person decide to spend that 24 hours of the day. Always remember that while you're sleeping around in your room being lazy, your rivals are working their butts off to reach their goals and dreams.
ReplyDeleteBefore and after entering university life, time management seems to be something that is emphasized by the people around me. This ranges from my aunts and uncles, my parents, cousins to my seniors. And for the most part, I somewhat brushed the advice aside. I initially thought it wouldn't be too much work since time management doesn't like something that takes effort. Looking back, I should have taken the advice more seriously since the results of my procrastination have finally caught up. A few weeks worth of review that I should have done before are now piling up with this weeks supposed review and this also occasionally goes with a few home works. This is also a result of horrible prioritization. Some works and activities are more important than other and there are some factors to determine this, such as due date and who issued the assignment. Overall, planning your actions a head of time would save you a large amount of energy in the future.
ReplyDelete“In college, I believe you can do better than high school because I know you haven’t put your best effort while in high school”. Those words came to me from both of my parents and from some of my high school teachers. Personally, all this time, I also feel that I haven’t put my best effort. The biggest factor is wrong time management. When I was starting junior high school, my mother told me to familiarize myself with making schedules. I only done it for a few weeks and then I feel like I already can manage my time. But it turns out that until now, sometimes I still have problems with time management. Sometimes, when I already set a plan, some unexpected things came up and destroys my plan. Because wrong time management, I like to do tasks at midnight before the deadline. I realize that method is not effective especially for college students like us. I realize that I have to be stricter to myself so I can do my tasks regularly. Time management is important especially when you want to achieve a goal.
ReplyDeleteLike any other students, I also experience the same problem whenever I’m reminded of the needs to do my college assignments as well as allocating some hours each day to reading books that I deem to be necessarily important for my future goals. I’ve made promises to myself to at least get the hang of the so-called “college assignments’ due dates” by the second week of the first semester, and failed many times to leap up and grasp the hem of Mr. Deadline’s garment. I ended up extending it by another week and another one and another. Even I’m still doing it now. However, I always start a new week with a different strategy or approach to managing my time for the next seven days, and those aspects from my previous approaches which I believe to be successful are integrated to the newer one. And therefore, I’ll be sharing this strategy with you.
ReplyDeleteFirst, set a goal that you want to achieve by the end of the week. The goal can be anything as long as it’s something that’s achievable and realistic. Make sure that the goal is not too simple because it will just leave you with nothing to do in between the activities that you have during the weekdays, and hence, making you lazy. Why? You need activities to fill in those gaps to make sure you stay in shape and productive. Also, don’t forget to take a nap in one of those periods. In my case, the goal is to get as much free time as possible during the weekends for me to spend on relevant tasks that will become the steps which bring me closer to my future goal. Therefore, I would have to force myself to carry out my college assignments on the same day that I received them. Second, eliminate any addicting activities that have sucked hours of your life, be it opening certain applications on your phone or playing video games. If you happened to see the second step to be nearly impossible, then you probably misinterpreted it or it was just me giving implicit explanations. Basically, all you need to do is list down the activities that take many hours from your weekdays in a descending order. For those activities located on top, eliminate them. Whereas for the rest of the listed activities, limit the time you spend on them. An example coming from my ongoing schedule would be to stop myself from accessing Instagram (it’s really addicting for me) and have the whole day spent on me reading books, with little breaks after every few pages that I’ve read. These little breaks could be used by me to check on my phone for any notifications, or to play the only game that I have in my laptop. In this case, playing the video games is something that I rarely do now that I’m at the university.
Scheduling or making time management is not a thing for me. I claimed to always make my daily schedule on my small notebook on the first days of school. But it’s just bull to me, it didn’t work on me. The yearly planner I bought was only functional until a week after the first day. I tend to do things on just how it would go. I used to believe that things were meant to be, I mean, in this life we just have to follow the flow of each pathways we have. But, as time goes by, the thought of “what if things are need to be fixed? Should I fix myself?” comes to my head a couple times. After reading this and also the article about procrastinating, I think that it is a must to have a schedule, and not just having, but adhering it. The goals should be set first, also maybe the reward after doing your task should be written too, so it might motivate ourselves more.
ReplyDeleteJust wondering, anyone got tips so that i can wake up earlier in the mornings? I have an exactly the same problem as Jim. I always study so late at night. I started usually around 22.00 PM and I’ll sleep around 03.00 AM. so most mornings, i feel so tired that all I wanna do is go back to bed. I don’t really have many morning classes though, but when I do I am always late. I set alarms, but I always press the snooze btton and go straight back to bed. I know that to wake up early, we must sleep early as well. But, oten times we can’t help it. During daytime there’s a lot of things beside classes to take care of, I barely have any spare time to even grab my book. So most of my study time is during midnight. I even set multiple alarms with different time frame, but I snoozed every single one of them and go back to sleep. It’s kinda frustrating.
ReplyDeleteSomehow reading this article makes me reflect on myself more often than before. I realize that day by day my task is pilling and this is because of my habit of procrastinating every responsibility that was given to me. However, slowly I began to notice that if I’m not able to change myself, I wouldn’t be able to catch up with the other students. Moreover, my responsibility will increase later on as I try to catch my goal and this made me more aware towards my greater responsibility. To be honest, coming to Jogjakarta took me a lot of courage and a strong will, it’s not only because of my surrounding but I also need to have my own stand. When I have my own stand, time is no longer an issue for me because I can hold off the eagerness of playing with other people and eventually I can organize my time based on my priorities.
ReplyDeleteTime management is very important because we cannot turn back time and we have to use time as wisely as possible. But the problem is managing time is not an easy task at all, it takes a lot of hard work and a strong will to be able to maintain punctuality. In my opinion, I am not that punctual but I know when to do all my tasks in time. For example, I studied for all my high school exams for exactly one hour and fifteen minutes at home, if the time ran out I will closed the book and everything no matter what, if I still don't understand about the materials I will reviewed it in the next morning. The reason why I do that is because I knew that if I studied more than one hour and fifteen minutes it will not be as effective so I would rather sleep and continued in the morning.
ReplyDeleteTime management is a very important aspect in life. We have so many activities to do but so little time and more often than not we will find ourselves doing something else that could actually waste our time. When managing your time, you should be able to set your priorities, from the most important to least important. By doing this, you will then be able to divide your time accordingly and be more focused on each tasks as you have targets to reach. It is also important to have some free time for entertainment purposes and also to refresh yourself so you don’t get stressed out, so make sure you also allocate time for this as well. For me personally, I have a reward system where every time I complete a specific task, I would treat myself with a movie or a night out. This acts as a motivator for me to finish a certain activity and on top of that, it enables me to maintain the balance between my social life and academic performance.
ReplyDeleteTime management is one of the key to success. Many successful leaders and entrepreneurs develop their time management skill to preserve their limited amount of time in their day. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and Bill Gates, the founder and owner of Microsoft revealed that they schedule their day in five minute interval. There is 1440 minutes in a day and if you divide it by 5, you will get 288 as a results. So, both of them make a timetable with 288 tiny blocks to schedule their day. Crazy, isn’t it?
ReplyDeleteI myself does not really have good time management skill. I often procrastinate studying and usually do my homework the day before deadline. When I do my all nighter, I usually grumble to myself like “if only I done this yesterday, I wouldn’t have to do this”. So, for the future, I hope that I can improve my time management and stop being a procrastinator.
I have always had a problem with managing my time. It’s sad to realize that over the years I have become better at managing my time, and I’ve become worse instead. I use love spending my past times doing semi-productive things such as reading novels and drawing, and now, I hardly can read through a chapter or sketch a simple figure without checking my phone for social medias. Despite that being said, I know that I can’t keep being bad at managing my time, I know that all it takes to do these seemingly impossible pile of task is just a little bit of discipline. As a student of UGM, I want to be active academically and socially; to do that is to having a good time management. Here’s to saying enough of procrastination, being a dead-liner, a bad friend, a bad student, and a bad person overall. Here’s to managing my time.
ReplyDeleteI guess that actually everyone are aware that time management is very important in our daily life. But, although we are aware of it, sometimes, we also often feel troubled in dividing time. I also experienced it, it’s very hard to divide time for studying, sleeping, going out with friends, taking a course ,etc. Once my teacher told me how to manage our time, and the answer is by making a plan. Since that, i was able to manage my time properly. I tried to do all my home works on time, so that i can have enough sleep, and still can hang out with my friends. By making a plan, I think we can do lots of things effectively, and we can decide our priorities, and also it helps us prevent waste of time. Next one, while doing daily activities, we still need a break. Break can be in the form of sleeping, chilling, watching movie, going out with friends, and so on. For me, taking a break is very important, it helps us to regain our energy, and it refresh our body and mind.
ReplyDeleteAs you go older, there are more responsibilities, for instance doing our academic assignments, and practices if you are involved in extracurricular such as sports or music, that you should have done and therefore need more time to finish those. Aside from our responsibilities, we also need time for entertainments such as watching movies, going out with friends, and also joining family events. There are many things to do yet little time is given, which leads us to need to manage our time very well so that we can get through with all of it. However, in my experience, there are times that I really want to do nothing productive all day, procrastinating. I prefer to not following my agenda and do what I want to do. And therefore, the time will “slip through our fingers” again even though I have planned on what to do. However, I have always tried my best to avoid them and follow the plan.
ReplyDeleteFrom this passage, I a hundred percent agree with the statement that in university, we began to establish goals that are important to us, not just to our parents. I also feel the same way because in university it is crucial for me to start thinking about my future career and focus on classes that will prepare us for that future career. I’m also involved in organizations and committee while I still have to fulfill my class obligations and responsibilities. I do realize that time is a very important aspect of an individual’s life. We have so much many things to do and so little time. When we do have a free time to do something productive, we tend to do useless things that we will regret at the end. According to my opinion, making a priority scale is essential. A priority scale is a scale of the relative priority of facilities, assets, conditions, maintenance, and other matters, which is determined by relative critically. The priority level is divided into four sections: critical (urgent and important) – important (important but not urgent) – normal (urgent but not important) – low (neither important nor urgent). Through this scale, we are able to differentiate our priorities straight.
ReplyDeleteYou know what addiction that a mankind had and cannot be removed? Addiction to time. We as a human are limited by the amount of time that we got, and since then many people think that their time is not enough to do something while in the other hand it is only a matter of prioritizing what is important and what is not. I know that when I said this, you must think that I am very cocky that I am able to manage my time and prioritize about what is important and what is not. The reality is, I am not that good of a time manager myself, I often slept late and overslept in the morning and even as far as doing the task in the campus. I always promised to myself and my family that in college, I will be a better person and give the best effort that I am not able to give in highschool. One thing that is always holding my back while I am doing something is the reality that I am a very deep sleeper and need a long period of sleep. So, lets just hope that I am able to cope with my habit and found a good way to manage my time.
ReplyDeleteTo get good grades, it is essential for you to know what is the most efficient way for you to study. I am trying to emphasize that everyone's way of studying is different; so don't trust all the tricks you can find online that will show you how to study efficiently and effectively. My dad constantly reminds me to study smart, not study hard.
ReplyDeleteSome people's way of studying is to study with friends. You spend hours and hours discussing the topic before the exam together with your friends, and guess what; every time I did this, my grades are not satisfactory. I am the kind of person who gets easily distracted as I can't even listen to music while studying. I need pure silence; hence I can't even study in a coffee shop. I also realize that I cannot be an all-nighter as I will end up feeling sleepy the next day and cannot focus in answering my exam as it will only result in me looking forward to the nap I can have after the exam. I would say that the only way I can study effectively is to read the materials before going to class and start studying at least one week before the exam as well as printing out all the materials. I realize that writing a summary with pen will only waste my time, so I will only highlight the core of the topics. If it is a quantitative exam, I'll do exercises and re-answer the questions to drill my ability. Everyone's way of "study smart" is different, and yes it took me lots of time to understand what I need.
Time management is crucial for being effective in our daily tasks. Being effective means being successful in producing a desired, is not about squeezing more into our day. In my opinion time management has to start by setting our priorities first. I want to share some tips that have helped me make a better use of my time when I found myself with a lot of stress.
ReplyDelete1. Make a TO DO list: If our minds are constantly trying to remember all the things we need to do, chances are that we can not focus well and we are just ending forgetting something crucial. Getting out of your head will free your mental state so you can concentrate on your tasks. Besides, there is no better feeling than crossing one task on your list.
2. Making a more realistic to do list includes dividing your task into importance and urgency. This is theory is based on the Eisenhower Matrix where you categorize your task based on high- low importance and high- low urgency. If you have never hear of it, I recommend you to have a look in google. This matrix has been a life changing in my productivity.
3. Take action. Stop making excuses and start working because greatness begins beyond your comfort zone and if you don;t do your task, no one will.
Theirs a word that my parents thought me since I was a kid then they keep on repeating this until now which is “time is money”. Why time is important for me? Because by being on time in every aspect of life, it helps me become more discipline and becoming more diligent in doing every task. By good time management, we can help our self to become a better person in the future. One of my experience when I underestimate the importance of time is when I play until morning and at 7 a.m. my class start. In that situation my body and brain can’t focus and it losses a lot of my concentration and energy. On the other hand, I start to know the meaning of time. By studying in university, it helps me to have a good time management in every condition. Also, it persuades to be a better person in the future.
ReplyDeleteStudy is every students obligation. Every students need to have the sense of responsibility to the education they have chosen, which is to study and fulfilled the assignments. The biggest challenge to do that is to manage our time. As a student, we want to have the social life, the school life, and even sometime work life for several working students. And to maintain all that, is not an easy thing. Because as stated in the article, there is no formal study as to manage our time, we have to learn that by ourself. My tips is to put our education life as our first priority. Therefore, when there are other things that is in front of our education life, we need to put aside that and focus on our education. For example, when there is a test tomorrow and we haven’t study about it at all, but our close friend invite us to a party, we have to prioritize our study and reject those invitations. Social life is needed but need to be put after our education life.
ReplyDeleteI talk about this a lot with my sister, we always said “Too much to do, so little time” We both know that I’m not the best people in managing time. I have tried many ways to manage my time. From using daily planner book, to applications in phone, but nothing really works for me. I never stick to the schedules I made and always do other things instead. The temptation to go out with friends or to sleep is always greater than to study. I realized that time management requires sacrifices. Instead of saying yes to go out and eat lunch, you choose to go to the library and study. You will miss the fun but at least you can finish your assignment, which is more important. Personally, I like to make to do list better than to stick to a planned schedule. I feel like in planned schedule, you are limited to a certain amount of time, while in to do list you don’t really have time restriction as long as you can finish all the things on your list.
ReplyDeleteTime is always been an enemy to all of us and a crucial thing in our lives. No matter how hard we put our deliberate intention to do necessary things, if we don't manage our precious time in the best way we still can't maximize our efforts. Surely we all naturally have bad experiences dealing with time, but with all those experiences we can finally learn to manage our time. Personally, my first step to do time management is to know which things that need to be prioritized. Just for an example, as we all know studying needs to be prioritized as we are students, but refreshing also important to maintain our good health. The question is which one of both things we need to put our time more? Neither of them. I believe that studying time and refreshing time need to be equal. The more we study, the more we get spending our time doing nothing. It's somewhat reward system. Also, to make it easier we can make a TO-DO list. Special tips for students that have events and organizations: carefully balancing your academic study and your specific assignments is a way to succeed in both. Don't make promises or even commit to something if you can't even prioritized and organized your things. Balance is the key to good-time management.
ReplyDeleteHumans have different ways of learning. Some of us comprehend better by listening, some by reading and some prefer learning by doing. We also have different preference in learning environment. Some of us learn most effectively in class, some of us does not mind studying when the place is noisy, some of us prefer to study alone in a quiet place. For me personally, I study and comprehend best when I am alone in my room. The best learning environment for me is a quiet room with music and cool temperature. Maximizing my productivity is one of my priority as a university student and because of that, I try my best to make my room a suitable learning environment for myself.
ReplyDeleteI believe that when it comes to studying, quality is more important than quantity. 2 hours of studying in the most effective method and learning environment is better than 6 hours of unproductive studying session. Studying in our best learning environment preference increases our productivity and our ability to concentrate. Furthermore, I believe that getting to know our own learning style and suitable learning environment will be a great way to save time and energy.
Time management is crucial no matter who you are or what you are doing. Using your time to do something productive is something that gives you a sense of pleasure and satisfaction since you are making the best out of the time you’ve been handed with. For me, time management tends to get really hard to balance because the amount of procrastination I tend to do is ridiculous. There are a lot of things that tempted me into procrastination such as social media and the internet in general. When it comes to studying, I don’t really like to study until above 1 AM because I don’t think that it’s efficient for me. Every time I stay up until 2 or 3 AM to study, I usually woke up with a terrible headache. Which i think is not beneficial since I would left feeling tired and unmotivated during the class or exam. In conclusion, time management affects your day and routine. So, you should be able manage your time efficiently.
ReplyDeleteI reflect Jim's story with what I have been through daily in life. Managing time is important to me but I never said that I have master it. I am still someone who loves to procrastinate and get unimportant things first to do. Like successful people said, time is crucial and will never turn back. I totally agree. If you fail in a test, you could still have remedial to fix your grades, but if you miss a rare chance connected with time, you would never be able to get it. Manage time in 3 ways: know what to prioritise, optimise time spent on the internet and utilise peak energy hours.
ReplyDeleteOther than time management, I guess the thing that shows whether you have study smarter or not is to know your learning style. I consider myself as someone who needs to write to understand and prefer kinaesthetic actions like using body, hands or other sense of touch to understand. By knowing your learning style, it could increase the efficiency of your study and save time as well.
Time management is an important aspect in planning out the equal share of 24-hours a day that we have, but I had one reading material that completely disagrees on the reliance to time management, and time management alone is not enough to make do with the given 23 hours and 56 seconds. When we’ve got everything planned out perfectly then it’s good, but sometimes we miss out on the variables that may affect that planning. As humans, we do feel like we deserve a couple of days to slack off, even if in truth we don’t, or probably the procrastinator inside took over the wheel, these sorts of circumstances are the ones that ruin time management! And how do we actually rid ourselves of that? Willpower. A willpower to enslave time and exploit them to our benefits. An experience that I have been subconsciously throwing myself into is that I’m not immediately going to sleep after finishing the assignments or just doing reviews on several subjects at night. Why would I do that? I have let the slacker inside take control over my consciousness that I have to recover from my fatigue and manipulated me to have some fun that I “deserve”. So, unless we have the willpower to abide by and commit ourselves to the time management that we have planned out and beat the inner slacker/procrastinator out of our minds, it will be a futile attempt.
ReplyDeleteThis article made me realise how much I have wasted my time everyday since college started. I have very bad time management. I am the type of person who procrastinates on almost all my work. Sometimes, I can do a better job with my assignments when I’m pressured and only have little time left. I also always spend my time doing things like going out with my friends, watching TV series in my room, and stuff like that while saying to myself “This is a much needed break.”, even though I know I don’t need it because I haven’t been doing any work. And now, mid-term exam is coming up and it’s making me realise how much I need to catch up and stop slacking and playing around. I’m not in high school anymore, there is no one to remind me what to do and when to do my work. I have to motivate myself and focus on getting things done in time.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever speculate how some people manage to get their assignment done on time, meanwhile other people are rushing to get their work done whilst stressing out? The right answer is because those people who manage to get their work done on time are able to use their time efficiently and practice their time management skill. Right now as a college student, time management is really important since I have to balance finishing all my homework, independent learning and doing my job as a committee of an event. It is hard because since I was still in high school I have a really bad time management, where I tend to procrastinate and waste my time doing something useless while in the other hand I can finished some of my work. Making a priority and to do list is one of many ways that I do to help me get my assignment done and also practice my time management.
ReplyDeleteTime management is an important thing, I think a lot of us have big dreams but say that the lack of time keeps us from achieving them. Nothing is more valuable and precious than time. You spend time and you kill it. Time has been the one thing hardest for us to grasp and own. Five minutes can be a second or a year, in context. Days and weeks vary wildly in worth and perception. I am always amazed by people who seem to commit to completing the goals they have set for themselves such as adopting healthier lifestyle, working on their side hustle, or joining many activities on campus.
ReplyDeleteBut we can start managing our time to live more productively. We could start by accomplishing something purposefully, strive for a goal and be consistent to it also be positive. Much of our time is dissolved, intentionally or not, and it should be. Its our nature to ‘waste time’, but waste it wisely.
ReplyDeleteA discipline time-management is a crucial habit that we should try to implement in our daily life. As we grow older, we starts to feel that we have less and less time. On highschool, we might have a lot of leisure time we could spent playing video games, watching our favourite movies at the cinema, hanging out with our friends, and so on. As soon as we started our college life most of us started to feel that we had less free time than we used to back in highschool. Then, when people finally graduates and have a stable job most of them will find it hard to find quality time to spend with their family due to the schedules they have on their office. Actually, if we have a good time-management this situation could be avoided. Yes, most people will experience this ‘lack of time’ problem at some point of their life. Yet, there is also some who don’t. Some people are able to find time available to spend on whatever they wanted to do, despite their busy schedules. Why? The answer is they have a better management skills than most people do. We all have the same amount of 24 hours per day, and 7 days per week worth of time, it is up to ourselves to decide how we divide our time in the best possible way.
Just like what the article had said, time is not the problem but how we choose to manage it. After all, everyone has an equal supply of time, every day. How we manage time is the key toward a better life. If we manage our time wisely, I’m pretty sure we won’t have as many problems as Jim. Of course, in order to achieve this “better living condition,” one must be willing to sacrifice a bit. An example can be sacrificing or lessening our break time. I think it’s better for someone to take some short breaks than having one long break because by doing so you don’t waste a lot of time. It might be a bit of a problem at first (sacrificing our break time) but the result of lessening break time can benefit us in the future. By managing our time well, we can prevent many problems: unfinished assignment, high-stress level, low quality work. After all, we are all given an equal supply of time. It’s up to us to decide how we’re going to use it.
ReplyDeleteTime management has always been the biggest enemy ever fought by every student in this era. It is true that we were raised with ease and accessibility towards everything we need. This habit has slowly create a mindset of being dependent and neglect over many thing. And when we entered the high school and university life, we’ll be in shock with the different pace that we’ve never experience and faced before. Therefore, if the people did not anticipate this significant change and keeps on doing things with their regular way of life, then surely they’ll be in a deep trouble which eventually would triggered their level of stress and causing a lot of unnecessary problem within their high school’s and universities life. To avoid this kind of situation, people should realize that they’ve enter the ‘real world’ and if they don’t want to get swallowed by it, then they should follow, adapt, and react to every changes that will happen in the future.
ReplyDeleteTime is a very difficult thing to manage, it is important for us to manage time as organized as possible so our activities will go smoothly. When I was younger I felt that I had a lot of time to use so back then its not important to manage time. As the time goes by a get older, I realized that time is a very important thing because its limited and you cannot get it back. We can start by putting our activities in order, then start to identify how much time we have in a day, after that we can start to write the time management in order so we can run our day as organized as possible. With good time management, it will maximize the positive points in our day, this will also improve our progress as a human being because less time will be wasted. So I believe that time management is very important.
ReplyDeleteEvery students need to have study as their hobby and obligation as well. Studying is the best way for students to absorb the knowledge that has given and to understand everything better, which are the puproses of education. The big problem is that, study is not easy and need a big focus on it. And moreover, there are a lot of things that is far more interesting than studying, that makes study become a challenge. However, students need to overcome those challenges and make studying as their first priority based on the risk of taking education. As a student, the best way to study in a good way is to find out how is the best way to study based on our individually needs and wants. Because every people definitely have their own style of studying that suits them, so, when you feel in doubt and left out with your education, find your best way to study and put studying as your first priority.
ReplyDeleteI believed that time is one of the factors of success that everyone has the same amount to start with. When I was in middle school my mom said to me that 24 hours is really short, and 1 week is really short as well, and also 1 year, the reason behind that is because time is on autopilot, and all we can do is try to hold on and manage it. Time management is definitely a skill that make or break people. Even the smartest people with a lot of free time will get into a huge problem if their time management are off. As a child I used to have bad time management. Even when I am in college sometime I miss calculate on how I manage time and ended up pulling out an “all-nighter”. The conclusion is, in my opinion time management is a skill that can be learned to trial and error that is needed to reach a successful life.
ReplyDeleteTime management is an important aspect in our life. We need to learn how to manage our times in order to make our life more efficient. With time management, we could do everything in time so we don't need to rush and being confused because we don't have enough time. As a college student, of course we have to make time to study. I know that college students have a lot of activity besides lecture, but we also need to consider about our study time. Managing our schedule is needed since we have a lot of activities so we need to keep our activity in track. We can't just leave our study behind just because we're busy doing another activity. Don't forget that education is still our number one priority. We need to balance the time between our study and other activity in order to achieve our goals to gain good grades and also better soft skills. We have to realize that sparing our time to study is important for our future. Don't ever waste our time for doing something that isn't necessary.
ReplyDeleteTime management is a crucial thing, especially for college students. With a good time management people could easily play, work, study, and eat in the right portion of time in a day. Honestly up until now I’m still having issues with my time management. There is a thing between me and time management, and it is not a good thing. My usual activity would be playing from the afternoon until midnight, then I start to study or do some assignments later at midnight. I sleep for about four to five hours and to be honest that really makes me feel sleepy in class. What I need to do is to finish all of my assignments before doing other things but in reality that is too hard for me to do. There are so many distractions that I got whenever I have the time on finishing all of my assignments. I hope I can improve my time management as time goes by because if not it will only be a burden for my college activities.
ReplyDeleteAfter 2 months of studying in University, I got to know many people with different personalities, learning preference and habits. Some of my friends are used to staying up late, even until early morning to do their assignment. Some of my friends prefer to study in the morning. Some of my friend can only study when there’s music and a lot of my friends prefer to study alone. Based on this observation, I believe that different people have different learning style and also different environment preference to be productive. I think that it is very important for each one of us to be aware of what our learning style is to know when are where we can be the most productive. When it comes to studying, quality should be prioritized over quantity. Besides quality, I think an important aspect when it comes to learning to to be consistent. Usually, exams in the university include the accumulation of what has been learned since the beginning. Therefore, being consistent is important to make sure that we revise, remember and understand the concept of every subject from the beginning until the end.
ReplyDeleteTime management is the most crucial skill that everyone should have. Although it is not part of any academic curriculum, it is not in any clubs or event, but every activities that we do for our academic, clubs, and event always encourage us to become a good time manager, right? Well anyway, in this comment I just want to share a little bit about my worst experience of being a bad time manager. The first month of academic year in my high school was a bit boring and so I didn’t put too much care on it. So I likely to abandon many assignments and always think that I will have time in the upcoming days to finish the assignments. Unfortunately, it was totally wrong. At the end of the academic period, I get more and more assignments instead of no more and no more. Until one day I realize that I should have done the past assignments earlier, because what I get now is just I’m killing myself to put an effort twice harder as I have to in order to finish all the assignments. So be wise on using your time, don’t let those stupid things waste your precious time.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think that everybody are actually know that time management is key in our daily life. What I meant by key is that time management have an important role in our daily life. As a student, I find it very difficult to manage my time. It’s difficult to manage time for studying, active in organizations, campus project, having fun with friends, and visiting my family. I once read that we have to make a time table or a plan in order to manage our time. Because of that I started to write down the tasks that I have to do so that I will not forget. I also started to do all my home works before the deadline. I do that in order to have enough sleep and still can go out with my friends. By making a time table or a plan, I believe that we are able to do loads of things thoroughly. By making a time table also helps us to decide our priorities so we don’t lost track of time. I also believe that we have to take a break once in a while. It is very important to rest our brain. Resting our brain also can make us feel fresh and open to new ideas.
ReplyDeleteI believe that not everyone has the ability to stick up with the same tight schedule. I used to think I was one of those people, but then I realize that those kinds of people don’t actually achieve anything in life. I heard this saying “people who fail to plan are planning to fail.” And that struck me big time. I guess moving away and living on my own makes me a better time manager. It forces me to set my own schedule since no one else is around to remind me of it. As for academic matters, I honestly still struggle to catch up with all these tasks around me. The schedule I set up don’t always go out as plan as it turns out that I need more time to finish certain tasks. I prefer to do my tasks early in the morning rather than pull an all-nighter. By that way, you’re not all worn out from the day before and you have fully recharged to start a new day with a new energy. I do believe this is all a learning process, and I hope someday I will be much better at managing my time. As for now, I just have to remind myself every day to not stress out too much.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, Jim’s story is very relatable for me. Since high school, I have always had a hard time managing my daily schedule and I always procrastinate, which is a very bad habit to have. I often can’t balance my academic and non-academic activities. Also, I tend to procrastinate in every task that I get, I didn’t have any reason as to why I procrastinate, maybe I’m just being lazy. As a result, not only my grades dropped, but also my non-academic activities are falling apart. Then I realize that I need to change that immediately, because I can’t be doing that anymore in college. Being in college, we have to manage our time wisely. Balance our academic and our social life without being biased to one side. Time management is very important for everyone, not just students. Every person has their own goals, to achieve them we must have a good time management and always plan everything. We must know how to make the most of our 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteTime management is an important skill for our daily life. Even Though we know it is important to manage our time wisely, sometimes we failed to do time management. I do have a hard time managing my time when high school, feels like I don’t have time to revising the materials and all my time at home dedicated for doing homework or preparing for next day exam. I start doing bullet journal to remind me about my assignments and exams, by spreading all my assignment and see them at once make me motivated and became more productive. Back then, I always be a deadliner, doing my assignment one day before the deadline and by doing that I can prioritize which one should I do first. But since I start doing bullet journal, I can finish my assignment long before the due date. Though sometime I still do the assignment one day before the due date. I think we can learn how to manage our time by practicing and discipline our self.
