Four songs No. 7

Fiona Apple
"Sleep To Dream"

I tell you how I feel
But you don't care
I say tell me the truth
But you don't dare
You say love is a hell
You cannot bear
And I say gimme mine
Back and then go there
For all I care
I got my feet
On the ground
And I don't go to
Sleep to dream
You got your head
In the clouds
And you're not at
All what you seem
This mind, this body
And this voice cannot be
Stifled by your deviant ways
So don't forget what I told you
Don't come around
I got my own hell to raise

I have never been
So insulted in all my life
I could swallow the seas
To wash down all this pride
First you run like a fool
Just to be at my side
And now you run like a fool
But you just run to hide
And I can't abide

I got my feet
On the ground
And I don't go
To sleep to dream
You got your head
In the clouds and
You're not at all
What you seem
This mind, this body
And this voice cannot be
Stifled by your deviant ways
So don't forget what I told you
Don't come around
I got my own hell to raise

Don't make it a big deal
Don't be so sensitive
We're not playing
A game anymore
You don't have
To be so defensive
Don't you plead me your case
Don't bother to explain
Don't even show me your face
'Cause it's a crying shame
Just go back to the rock
From under which you came
Take the sorrow you gave
And all the stakes you claim
And don't forget the blame

RUN-DMC
"Walk This Way"

Now there's a backseat/lover
That's always under/cover
And I talk til my daddy say
Said you ain't seen/nuthin
Til you're down on her/muffin
And there's sure to be a change in ways
Now there's a cheer/leader
That's a real big/pleaser
As far as I can remi/nisce
But the best thing/love it
Was her sister and her/cousin
And it started with a little kiss, like this

She starts/swingin
With the boys in/tune
And her feet just fly up in the air
Singin hey diddle diddle with a kitty in the middle
And they swingin like it just don't care
So I took a big/chance
At the high school/dance
With a lady who was ready to play
It wasn't me she was/foolin
Cause she knew what was she was/doin
when she told me how to walk this way

[Chorus: Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith]

She told me to
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
[repeat 2X]
[repeat all 2X]
Well just gimme a kiss/some head!
Oooh, a-like this!

[Run-D.M.C.]
School girl/sleazy
With a/classy kind of sassy
Little skirt hangin way up her knee
It was three young ladies
In the school gym/locker
And they find they were lookin D
I was high school/loser
Never made it with a/lady
Til a boy told me somethin I missed
That my next door/neighbor
had a daughter/had a favor
And I gave the girl just a little kiss, like this

[Aerosmith]
She starts swingin with the boys in the school
with her feet flyin up in the air
Singing hey diddle diddle with a kitty in the middle
I was swingin like I didn't care
So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a miss who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin cause she knew what she was doin
when she told me how to walk this way

[Chorus]

The Waifs
"London Still"

I wonder if you can pick up
My accent on the phone
When I call across the country
When I call across the world
I see you in my kitchen
I can picture you now
As you toast to your small town
And you drink the happy hour
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I took the tube over to Camden
To wander around
I bought some funky records
With that old motown sound
And I miss you like my left arm
That's been lost in a war
Today I dream of home and not of London anymore
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
Yeah I'm in London still
You know it's ok
I'm kinda happy here for now
I think I've finally grown up
And got myself a love of now
If I ever come home and I, I think I will
I hope you're gonna want to hang
At my place on Sundays still
Oh yeah I hope you will
'Cause I'm in London still
You know we got it sorted
We really got it down
To a fine art on Sunday
In our sleepy Sunday town
I wonder what I'm missing
I think of songs I've never heard
I'm dreaming of your voices
And I'm dreaming of your herb
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
I'm in London still
Oh I'm in London still
La la la la London still
I'm in London...

The Innocence Mission
"Bright As Yellow"

And you live your life with your arms stretched out.
Eye to eye when speaking.
Enter rooms with great joy shouts,
happy to be meeting.
And bright,
bright,
bright, bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.
And I do not want to be a rose.
I do not wish to be pale pink,
but flower scarlet, flower gold.
And have no thorns to distance me,
but be bright,
bright,
bright, bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.
Even if I'm shouting, even if I'm shouting here
inside.
Even if I'm shouting, do you see that I'm wanting,
that I want to be so so
bright,
bright,
bright, bright as yellow,
warm as yellow.

  1. I would like to do some research about the first song, “Sleep To Dream” by Fiona Apple. "Sleep to Dream" is a song written and recorded by American alternative singer-songwriter Fiona Apple. It was released on April 14, 1997 by Work Records and Columbia Records as the second single from her debut studio album Tidal (1996). The song peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart on the week ending April 26, 1997 and spent 13 weeks there. It also peaked at number 84 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Apple's first song to chart in the United Kingdom. The music video was directed by a French Director, Stéphane Sednaoui. The music video features Fiona Apple singing in different rooms in an apartment and is all about Fiona Apple who suffer from Insomnia even though she already try many rooms to sleep, but she is still suffering from it.

  2. I also interested in the last song, “Bright as Yellow” by The Innocence Mission. The Innocence Mission is an indie folk band. The member of the band are Karen Peris, Don Peris, and Mike Bitts on bass guitar. Don Peris is Karen Peris husband, that is why they have the same family name. Karen real name is Karen née McCullough. “Bright as Yellow” is on the band third album called “Glow” (1995), it was produced by Dennis Herring. This album is a departure from Klein's heavier production style. Herring's lighter touch gave more emphasis to the group's guitar work and to Karen's vocals and lyrics. The album's second track, "Bright as Yellow," peaked at #33 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks. Also, on June 6, 2008, "Bright as Yellow" was played as the official NASA wake-up call for the crew of Space Shuttle mission STS-124 on flight day 7.

  3. I am going to give my thoughts about the first song which titled as “Sleep To Dream” by Fiona Apple. As far as I read the lyrics, the lyrics sort of express the complaint of a woman, asking for the truth and everything. The anger in this song could be felt as we see the music video. I like the way she express the feeling and the anger within the music video. She is a singer, she is also an artist. 80 I also like the rhymes in the lyrics, like in the first verse, “I tell you how I feel, but you don't care. I say tell me the truth, but you don't dare. You say love is a hell, you cannot bear. And I say gimme mine, back and then go there.” We can see the rhymes sound well in the care to dare and then bear to the word “there”.

  4. The last song in the playlist “Four songs No.7” attracts me more than the other songs in the playlist. I like the cool tune of the song and how it just brings warmth to my feelings. The song is called “Bright as Yellow” and the singer is The Innocence Mission. In my opinion, the song is about someone who is wanting to shape his or her own image. He or she wants to be as bright as the color yellow so they can attract others’ attention in a good way. He or she also wants to be a sunshine that warms other people’s heart. The way the lyrics is written “And have no thorns to distance me” implies that the writer also wants to be other people’s shoulder to lean on and to have no distance that part he or she from others. I have only heard the song once so my opinion might not be the most valid.

  5. I would like to review the first song on this article, sleep to dream by Fiona Apple. However, I like to discuss the music and some feelings that happened in this music because my interpretation of the song likely comes from its instruments rather than analyze the lyrics. I think this song is an indie’s genre because the rhythm is mostly the same like the others indies song, but the chords and some notes give the jazz shade, it’s like major minor 7 chords or some diminished chord and augmented chord also include in that song. The blocking chords are not easy to detect, but the progression chord is the one lower note, then goes half note lower from that note. The music also imagines about sorrow like some bad things happened in this song. I like the music videos, I can feel how big the pressure that the woman takes and she can express well.

  6. I was excited to see 'Walk This Way' by RUN DMC is on the article. I think this song is a breakthrough song because it is I think the first proper hip-hop song that became famous and succeed in promoting hip-hop music to the world. RUN DMC made this song a hit back at the 80's but this song is actually made by Aerosmith in the 70's but RUN DMC refurbished this song and make it a hip-hop song. At the end both RUN DMC and the Aerosmith decided to record this song together and make it a hit once again by combining two genres which are Hip-hop and Rock, these thing has never been done back then so it was so unique and they also made a fantastic video clip which shows both of them singing this song in different rooms and there is the famous kick of the wall.
