1. Raditya Dika
This is probably the most famous and most watched Indonesian Youtube channel. It’s got more than 2 million subscribers. The mastermind behind it is, of course, Raditya Dika, who actually started out as a blogger and later became a Youtuber. He’s also a very talented writer and stand-up comedian. He’s known for his TV show Malam Minggu Miko, which translates to Miko’s Saturday Night. He also made a mockumentary about it called Miko, which is very popular amongst Indonesian teens. His videos are HERE.
2. Sacha Stevenson
Sacha is a Canadian who moved to Indonesia back in 2001. As a foreigner she immediately started noticing that some aspects of everyday life in Indonesia differ from those in Canada, so she filmed a funny sketch video called “How To Act Indonesian” to show what one should do to blend in Indonesian. The video blew up on Youtube and she basically became an overnight success. You can see her hilarious series of sketches on her channel, along with other funny videos and vlogs. Her videos are HERE.
3. Natasha Farani
If you ever struggled with trying on a hijab, or perhaps you’re in a rut and would like to find new ways to tie it – Natasha’s channel is the perfect solution for you. This girl seems to have an endless supply of ideas and creative ways of tying a hijab. She also does vlogs and makeup tutorials, so really it’s a one stop shop for any girl. Natasha has almost 150k subscribers, so you know her videos are good if so many people keep coming back for more. Her videos are HERE.
4. Christian Sugiono
Christian studied film-making, so you know his videos are going to look good, be well produced and interesting. His channel is called Malesbagnetdotcom, which is also the name of his company. He’s got almost half a million subscribers and he usually uploads fun, witty and interesting videos. He does all sorts of things like funny sketches, vlogs, and infographic videos explaining some pretty interesting things. He also likes to collaborate with his fellow Youtubers on various interesting projects. His videos are HERE.
5. The Lopez Group
Better known as skinnyindonesian24 on Youtube, this channel was created by brothers Andovi and Jovial da Lopez and now has more than half a million subscribers. These guys are very popular with the teen audience. They make hilarious sketch videos and song covers. When you first visit their channel, the first thing you see is this channel art that says “Fearless. Intelligent. Indonesian” and that’s exactly what they are. Their videos are HERE.
6. Bayu Skak
Bayu Skak became quite a celebrity on Youtube doing covers of traditional Javanese songs, very much unlike most of other Indonesian youtube musicians and singers who tried to do covers of English songs. His channel has more than 600k subscribers now and it just keeps growing. Bayu Skak has branched out of just song overs and now does a variety of videos like vlogs, sketches, game videos and more. His videos are HERE.
What do you think about all this ~ either generally or specifically?
The Lopez Group should be number 1 right now, just saying. Also, you missed some names like Chandraliow, and Reza Arap. These content creators are the ones that has the most impact right now, especially on youngsters. Sure, maybe Radit was number 1, and he was the forefront of Indonesian youtuber at the time. But the names I mentioned before are the ones that are currently on the limelight. Especially, Da lopez group and Chandraliow. Why? Because through their Youtube channel, the tried to change Indonesian people perspective about a lot of things, while still providing entertainment as their channel intended. For instance, Da lopez’s recent video commented on how the hug between President Joko Widodo and his competitor, Mr. Prabowo Subianto is an act worthy to be followed. And that it represents Indonesia’s value of “Bhinekka Tunggal Ika”. Said video brought about a lot of positive reviews, and almost all of my friends on facebook reshared it. So, just ask around, who’s name comes up first when you hear about Indonesian youtubers? Most people will probably say Da Lopez.
ReplyDeleteI really agree that Youtube is probably the most popular thing on internet for young people now. I admit that I almost spend a minimum of 2 hours watching youtube everyday. Youtubers such as Raditya Dika ( the most popular one), Arief muhammad, Ria Sw ( who are not mentioned in the article) successfully entertained me as a teenager. In my opinion, they make contents which are very good, fun, and also educational. Raditya Dika is popular of his stand up comedy, and his short film ‘Malam Minggu Miko’ in Youtube, but recently he also made some movies, and became the main actor such as ‘Target’, ‘Single’ and so on, his movies always attract young people’s attention. Arief Muhammad, who firstly only posting some jokes on twitter, became popular on Youtube, creating educational contents, and he also became an entrepreneur, opening restaurant, cake business, travelling business, etc. For me, by watching their video on Youtube, they are not only entertain us, but also inspire us and making us to be more creative.
ReplyDeleteThere are many content creators that use youtube as a media to influence the audience. I would like to specifically talk about one of the most famous Indonesian youtubers, Raditya Dika. I have watched his series of “Malam Minggu Miko” in youtube until his movies that always been a huge success in Indonesia cinema. His contents are mostly romance comedy. Now, he decided to more focus on youtube rather than film production. Beside the series and films, he also filmed vlogs, stand up comedy and many others. I always like his videos because mostly the content is comedy and Bang Dika himself is naturally funny. However, his videos are also informative. In his travel vlogs, he gives information about the places he visited, it includes the culture and history of the place. He also often made review on foods and products such as laptop and watch. In my free time, I still watch his videos as it is entertaining and also informative.

ReplyDeleteIt’s really rare to see or even hear of youtubers in Indonesia, because the people in Indonesia aren’t likely to have a job as a youtuber that creates or filming contents because we usually think it’s a pain to create a content or were rather lazy to do it. But seeing these people, the Youtubers of Indonesia, it really made me think of what would they do if there’s no more exemplary in them to create videos. That feeling that could make you stop, will be the end for your youtube carrier, such as the disappointment in the people that has supported you until now, and losing your viewers (subscribers in youtube) to the point that there will be no one left. All that hard work gone to waste and even you have to build it from the start if you want to comeback. Although the negative side are there, these people made youtube videos because they like to, they made them as a hobby which create a constant feeling of creating the contents at when and on how they like them to be.
ReplyDeleteWe all know that youtube is the ‘what is up’ in today’s society. Meanwhile TV is dying, Youtube rises and gain viewers day by day. This article talks about 6 youtubers in Indonesia. Out of the 6 youtubers above, I prefer Raditya Dika & The Lopez Brothers to be the best ones if you ask me. To be the best in youtube means that you got to have a great content and also something up to date. For example, Raditya Dika creates videos that aren’t only for a certain age but also that is watchable for everyone. Other than that he also created an entertaining short movie show titled ‘Malam Minggu Miko’ with episodes that made people came back to his channel again. The next youtuber is the Lopez brothers, I really think that they are one of the best youtubers here in Indonesia because their ability to gain teen audiences’ attention in the purpose either to entertain or educate, their sense of humor and also similar as Raditya Dika, they have a mini TV show titled ‘The Agency’.
Well maybe that is all for my comment to the article, I guess to conclude, I must say that the most important thing in the Youtube society is not only who are the youtubers but also how much positivity, education and also entertainment you got from them. Thankfully, even though some Indonesian youtubers are still disappointing, there are still lots of youtubers here that have share positivity to their viewers.
I immensely agree with the first sentence of the article, which says, “Youtube seems to be taking over these days.” Why? I believe that in the upcoming years, people will start to leave TV. TV just can’t match the convenience that new internet-based platforms for entertainments such as Youtube, Netflix, etc provide for the users (watch anything, anywhere). Second reason, content creators surely want the freedom to post and share any content in their videos. With the strict rules and regulations that TV stations have, the contents are usually not as various as what is in Youtube. Also, in my opinion, TV stations care only about the ratings of their TV programs. They don’t really care if the programs would bring positives or negatives to the society. And the last reason, I think that with the fame that Youtube video creators have, which I believe have exceed some TV celebs, more kids and teenagers will be motivated to be one as well. There’s already one young guy who achieved Youtube silver button (100,000 subscribers) actually, his Youtube channel is called michaelmarcell. To be honest though, I am not interested at all with the contents in his videos, but with what he has created at a very young age, he’s quite exceptional. However, I am very sure that his channel would later on grow and be as successful as Raditya Dika’s and Bayu Skak’s. These Youtube celebs, are the two that I mention out of the six because I’ve watched their videos, and the contents in their videos are so interesting. Raditya Dika was known as the king of Youtube Indonesia. He got so famous with his short movie titled ‘Malam Minggu Miko’ and some stand up comedy videos. As for my personal favourite out of the six is Bayu Skak. There are two channels of his actually, ‘Bayu Skak’ and Bayu Skak Daily Life’, and the latter is the one that I constantly watch.
ReplyDeleteTo conclude my opinion, with the rise of Youtube, I believe that we really need to encourage ourselves and all young people of Indonesia to take part in this industry. Because this is a very promising industry, and only in this industry, people have the chance to show their true creativity. But don’t forget, share positives, not negatives.
I think nowadays almost every teenager have had a flashing thought of being a ‘youtuber’, or the cooler way to say it, a content creator. Just by creating a new video every week and upload it on the site, you get to make a promising amount of money. The money you get may just as be as much as if you’re working for hours in a formal office. But getting money from videos takes much more effort than how it looks. It takes lots of creativity, confidence and a little effort. To think about what content you’re going to share, how you make that video happen and how would people would respond to it. Will it be a hit? Will it get lots of views? What would people think about me afterwards?
ReplyDeleteI don’t have any specific favorite youtuber, but I enjoy contents that either Fathia Izzati (https://www.youtube.com/user/kittendust) or Agung Hapsah (https://www.youtube.com/user/FilmHak) makes. Even though they don’t upload regularly, but there’s a certain quality in the videos they make, and it’s not something rare for them to make contents with educational purposes, where at least I could learn something from it. Not just random pointless videos of cats fighting or a baby biting his brother’s finger online.
YouTube is rising because the world is evolving, am I right? Basically, TV and YouTube is just the same thing. The main differences are the one who created the contents and how it works. After sometime, I realize that most of the youth generation likes something instant and has varierity of wants and needs. TV couldn't give them all that. It has scheduled movies and shows that maybe only come out a week for each show and also only made by big channels and productions. In the other side, YouTube is providing freedom to both viewers and creators to have something they want in no time. They both have news to share and also, just to remind you, there are some unmoraly ugly contents both on TV and YouTube. It's up to us which contents we're looking for. I personally prefer to spend my time watching YouTube videos than watch shows on TV that only have gossip and drama.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, we can't just list YouTube creators into top six or top ten, because each of them have different styles and tastes. Us as viewers do to. Raditya Dika is the pioneer for such things and there are variety of contents on his channel, and Da Lopez brothers have some critical views on things, also any other people have different contents. If I make a top three list, I'll put Ria SW, a food vlogger, to the number one of the list. Jurnalrisa, the ghost-whisperer team as the second. Then the third place goes to Raditya Dika. Do you all agree? No, I don't think so.
First of all, due to era of YouTube, people starts to leave or start to ignore tv as their daily routine to watch news etc. Some popular youtubers that is mention above have different sense of way to pleasure the watcher. Personally, I love to watch Raditya Dika in which have a popular series of short movie titled, “Malam Minggu Miko” and also some films like “Single”, “Cinta Brontosaurus” and “Hangout”. On the other hand, Raditya Dika also creates culinary channel in You Tube where he and his girlfriend are testing a unique and interesting food. Besides, from the six famous youtubers above, I also love to watch Bayu Skak where his Surabaya accent can make people laugh and amuse people. Not only that, both of the youtubers above, also makes a vlog in which its content is about their daily routine and also experience. Some reviews about gadgets, gaming laptop, photography and also other stuff that are sponsored to them also being review. Now, youtubers become a really prospect job and also make a lot of big brands make youtubers as their ambassador like Benny Lim and Glenn Prasetya for Sony Ambassador. So, in general youtubers are influencer also marketing staff.
ReplyDeleteIn this global era, we can earn money from anything and anywhere. It’s not as hard as our great great grandfather did. Back in the old days, we used think that if we want ti be rich we need to be a doctor, an accountant, a CEO and maybe a businessman or even a politician. People don’t realized that they can earn money by becoming an influencer such as youtuber, blogger, etc. The amount of money that they can earn is staggering. They can earn five to fifteen million dollars annually. That’s more than a doctor can earn for the rest of his life (assuming that he/she is a specialist). Perhaps it is not as easy as it sounds. First thing first, we need to forget those money and focusing on influencing people to be a better person. It’s not a must but it’s a morale responsibility for everyone in this world. Many people do some stupid thing and they become instant famous for one or two months and they forgotten by people. Don’t be those kind if people, after you have the basic principles of a good influencer, the rest will come as time goes by. Don’t worry and don’t rush in, instant famous is something that can be so attempting but remember you that need to have a quality.
ReplyDeleteYoutube is one of, if not the ultimate choice of how I choose to spend my free time. It’s great! You could find almost every type of content there, I’m sure nobody would argue against that. In youtube, I keep finding myself amazed at just how many things I’m able to discover in a short period of time. I could watch an educated view on the worlds economy, and watch Indians build homes out of bamboos in the forest. The sheer diversity is just addicting; and every addiction is not good. So right now, I am trying to limit myself, instead of watching every single good videos and spend hours on end, I’ll just watch a couple great ones for a few short minutes. Because of that I only watch a little of Indonesian youtubers. Agung Hapsah is one of them, he has an incredible passion in all aspects video making and try his best at making the quality of his videos amazing. His vlogs are top-notch, no wonder his fan-base is growing at a rapid pace.
ReplyDeleteI've read an article on the top 10 highest paid youtuber in Indonesia. Raditya ranked first with 10 Billion rupiah, followed by Ria Ricis and Arief Muhammad with over 1-2 Billion rupiah per year. After reading this, I realize that with that amount of money, many young generations are tempted to be a youtuber or in this case, a content creator. But with great power comes a great responsibilty. Being a content creator is more than just fame, money, endorsement, etc. It comes with a responsibility that you will be a figure, an influencer that will influence many many people. Not only making videos, but also contents that will educate the future generations. This being said, not everyone could easily be considered a good youtuber. Many people are only interested to be a youtuber for the fame, the money, all the free stuff that they will get. Not all people realize that an influencer plays a big role in educating the future generations.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the article that nowadays teenagers tend to watch more Youtube videos than TV. Personally, I watch videos about beauty, humor, and lesson. I like Sacha Stevenson’s contents very much and so I am glad that she made it to the article’s list. In my opinion, Sacha Stevenson really makes quality content that everybody from any age group would be able to relate to. Even though sometimes she could be kind of offensive, she is really funny in her videos. I really like “Seleb English” where she corrects celebrities’ grammar, pronunciation, and just their English in general. I really like it because I can learn from the videos how to pronounce words correctly and to be able to sound like a native. She also makes soap opera which she named “Sunat Demi Cintamu”. In my opinion, Sacha in the soap opera is not as hilarious as she is in her other content.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I am the kind of person that watch more youtube videos than TV shows. Not only I watched the content youtubers make, but I also watch the news through youtube. It also helps me to understand more of my subjects like math, because there are some channels in youtube that gives a proper and easy-to-understand explanations. When we talk about youtubers, there are some of my personal favourite such as: Raditya Dika, Ria SW https://www.youtube.com/user/riasukmawijaya, and Fatia Izati https://www.youtube.com/user/kittendust. Raditya Dika provides various contents from "Stand Up Comedy", Cooking Shows, Eating Shows, Product Review, etc. Besides his youtube channel I also used to watch Malam Minggu Miko on TV, the show was light and hilarious. My other most-watched youtube channel is Ria SW, her channel is about culinary, both local and international. Whereas, Fatia Izzati, her content is more about college life. She gives many tips and trick on how to survive in Uni. Nevertheless, there are other Indonesian Youtubers that I watched that I didn't subscribe the channel to. But those three that I mentioned above are the most frequent. In my opinion, youtube has more interesting, various and beneficial contents compare to Indonesian TV shows these days. That's why I like to spend my quality time watching youtube than television.
ReplyDeleteIndonesia isn't so different from another rising country based on technology and information aspect. In spite of the fact that the idea of posting videos on YouTube isn't unfamiliar in Indonesia, there are not the same amount of YouTubers in Indonesia as the united states but we have a few that has risen for the past few years. Youtube is a social media platform that's widely known to show of talents or any creative ideas through uploading a video. There are some very well known and talented Indonesia youtuber that are really enjoyable to me such as Tasya farasya, stephanie wose, suhay salim, and many more. Their video consists of makeup tutorial, makeup review, skincare products review, etc. I think the whole idea of publishing videos to youtube is to entertain people who watch it, to give useful information, sharing experiences and knowledge as well. It would be awesome to have more influencer from Indonesia that can go globally through youtube.
ReplyDeleteIn this era, YouTube is surely taking over TV. I myself as the so-called ‘millennial’ find YouTube more interesting and enjoyable compared to TV and I always watch YouTube whenever I get bored or when I need entertainment. One of my favourite Indonesian youtubers is Raditya Dika and based on the article above, he is the most famous and most watched Indonesian Youtube channel. That is no big surprise for me because the content he creates such as the series Malam Minggu Miko is funny and very entertaining. Not only the TV series, I also enjoy the movies created by Raditya Dika such as Koala Kumal and Marmut Merah Jambu. Another one of my favourite youtubers is Arief Muhammad, also known as Poconggg. He uploads quality content and I really enjoy watching his travel vlogs as his videos are able to make me feel as if I am there as well, looking at the view with my very own eyes.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to Arief Muhammad’s channel: https://www.youtube.com/AriefMuhammaddd
If I have to say, in this internet-oriented world, some of us have probably leave our television alone due to the fact that there is too much unbeneficial drama series and move on to the internet to find something else more interesting. And one of those platforms is YouTube. You just type whatever video you would like to watch and then it will suggest videos that is related to your search. While it is not a sin to be a youtuber and to get lots of money just by creating a video, there are many youngsters that wanted to became a youtuber just so they could be rich. The thing is, some of the video that they created doesn’t have the same weight as their predecessors. Sure, you could probably say that they don’t have the same amount of charisma as their predecessors or because they only have few subscribers, but that doesn’t really explain why most of them couldn’t survive the entertainment industry. I think they couldn’t survive because they don’t really have a clear goal as to what they’re doing while their predecessors do have a real goal. What I’m trying to say is, if you want to earn lots of money, being a youtuber is not the only choice and it doesn’t have to be your goal. There are thousand ways for us to earn money and being a youtuber is just one of the example.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is a place where you can share your videos to express ourselves and inspire other people. A content creator can influence other people’s life through their videos because nowadays, people watch more of YouTube compared to regular cable TV. Because in YouTube, the videos are more variant and people can choose what video they want to watch. There a lot of Indonesian YouTubers such as Sacha Stevenson, Natasha Farani, Christian Sugiono, Skinnyindonesia24, and Bayu Skak. One of the most famous YouTubers in Indonesia which I love is Raditya Dika, this content creator creates a series of comedy videos and some horror videos as well. One of his comedy series which I love is “Malam Minggu Miko” and I also love his horror series about his experience in Yogyakarta. Another YouTuber that I love but is not on the list is Tasya Farasya. She is a ‘Beauty Vlogger’ which means that she creates videos about makeup tutorial and reviews on makeup products.
ReplyDeleteI know all of these YouTubers except for Natasha Farani. It looks like her videos are full of makeup tutorials, so I’m totally not interested in watching her content. Out of all six of these YouTube channels, I watch Da Lopez brothers’ videos the most. They have really cool videos, and what I like most about them is that they speak English fluently. You can rarely find Indonesian YouTubers who speak English well like them. Well, there are some other ones like Fathia and Agung Hapsah.
ReplyDeleteBayu Skak, a YouTuber from Malang, also has entertaining videos, although I rarely watch them, his videos are mostly watched by teenagers from East Java, as Bayu mostly speaks Javanese with a dialect of those in East Java. Bayu even debuted his own movie early this year, it is called “Yowis Ben” which tells the story of Bayu forming his own rock band. The dialogues in this movie are mostly in Javanese, like in his videos on YouTube. I watched his movie early this year, and it turned out good! I spent my high school years in East Java, so I understand Bayu’s language well. Although the movie has some coarse language inappropriate for children, it was still funny to watch, because people in East Java are known for their roughness and offensiveness compared to those from Central Java.
I wonder why Tim2one isn’t included on this list of YouTubers. Tim2one is one of the popular Indonesian YouTube channels that is managed by Chandraliow. He is funny, creative, and talented at video editing. In my opinion, his channel is the best so far in Indonesia.
To be honest, I watched a lot of youtube, like watching football, video games, gadget related videos, and a lot other videos. The reason why youtube is so popular right now, is that accessing youtube is very easy, you only need an internet connection and your device. I also thought that youtube is more popular and fun than TV because, youtube content is more variative and more unique. And also you can watch youtube videos anytime and anywhere, unlike TV programs that are scheduled. In my opinion, TV programs quality in Indonesia is not that good, because there are a lot of programs that did not give the audiences any positive impact, on the other hand they give the audiences negative impact. I also prefer watching youtube than watching TV. In my opinion, youtube will have a brighter future than the TV industries in the future because of their content, qualities, and their ease of access.
ReplyDeleteSimilar to every other teenager, I feel like I am very dependent on the internet and YouTube. On a daily basis, I usually spend one to two hours on YouTube alone. I don’t have a specific type of videos that I watch since I tend to watch whatever videos that popup my timeline. Nowadays people are making YouTube as their main job and those people are called youtubers. For example, YouTube is used as a platform for new artists to launch their music careers. There are numerous youtubers that have been scouted by music producers and they are leading in the music industry such as Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, and Brian Immanuel better known as Rich Chigga.
ReplyDeleteEven though I don’t really know much about Indonesian youtubers, I have to admit that Raditya Dika has to be one of my favorite Indonesian youtubers. I feel like people get attracted by his sense of humor that emphasizes the modern Indonesian society. He used to make a weekly comedy series called “Malam Minggu Miko” and it used to be one of my favorite thing to watch. I also enjoy watching Sacha Stevenson’s comedy sketches. As an Indonesian, I feel like I relate to a lot of the things that she portrayed in her videos. Other than comedy videos, I also enjoy watching beauty videos by Indonesia beauty vloggers such as Titan Tyra and Sarah Ayu.
I have always enjoyed watching youtube videos from different content creator ever since I was eleven. I’ve been keeping up with the Youtube community ever since I was in the elementary school. But, back then I only watched youtubers that aren’t from Indonesia since there weren’t many local youtubers at the time. Since I grow up watching a lot of youtubers I have seen how the Youtube community evolved. I have to admit a lot has changed. Some youtubers are now being considered as money hungry since some only does youtube for the sake of the money. Other than that, I have also noticed how there are an increase in the numbers of local youtubers. In my opinion, there are some Indonesian youtubers who are genuine and are doing youtube as their job for the sake of their passion and interest. But there are also youtubers who are doing youtube only for the fame and money. My favorite Indonesian youtuber is Fathia Izzati. She makes incredible content that are educational and beneficial.
ReplyDeleteIn this era, almost everyone watched Youtube, even my youngest cousin who is still 4 years old already watch many videos from Youtube. Youtube is no longer a strange website, people can open up Youtube and search everything they want. Youtube never fails to impress me as they always present a variety of content and this could happen thanks to all those creative content creators. I rarely open up Indonesian Youtuber, to be honest, there is only some content that amuses me and one of it is Raditya Dika’s channel. His channel somehow can be very relatable to my life, because most of the time his content usually talks about his love life and what actually interesting about his video is that, he can change his experience into a comedy content which it suits much Indonesian sense of humor. Year by year the content of Youtube continually growing, they evolve to meet the demand of their audience and I think this is one of the remarkable progress in the web platform.
ReplyDeletePeople shifted their interests from watching TVs to Youtube because of its variety of contents, and it is true that a large number of people are now more interested and following the updates of Youtube celebs rather than following TV celebs. Personally, it is understandable that Raditya Dika is the first rank of the top Indonesian Youtubers. Some of his videos are informative yet entertaining. His TV shows called “Malam Minggu Miko” was so entertaining: I used to watch it when I have free time. He also produces other than TV shows, such as vlog and movies, and both are watched by many people. Aside from Raditya Dika, I also like a famous Youtuber named Fathia Izzati. Her contents are usually very informative and have quality from it, and sometimes are also entertaining. I often watch her channel whenever I have free time. And not only me, most people are spending their leisure time by enjoying Youtube.
ReplyDeleteI watch Youtube videos more often than television. Videos that I like to watch are tv shows such as Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon and James Corden, travel vlog, cooking tutorial, makeup tutorial, etcetera. I rarely watch Indonesian youtubers, only few of their channel that I subscribe. Indonesian youtubers that I usually watch is Raditya Dika. I sometimes watch The Lopez Group and Sacha Stevenson either. In my opinion, sometimes their videos can be inspiring and adding my knowledge as well as open up my mind and my thoughts toward something. Like Raditya Dika for example, one of my favorite videos of him is on Najwa Shihab’s channel with the title “Catatan Najwa – Raditya Dika Digeprek Najwa”. He was interviewed by my favorite public figure, Najwa Shihab. In that video, they were talking about Indonesian politics these days. Raditya Dika said for the new electors such as teenagers, they should vote based on the candidate’s quality, not because of their physical appearance.
ReplyDeleteYoutube is one of the most entertaining websites on the internet. It provides many kinds of videos and are also helpful for educational purposes. the first time I watched youtube, it was not a local “youtuber”. I do not really remember where this youtuber was from, but it was a foreigner. Then, I started to watch The Lopez Group or also known as skinnyindonesian24 and then started to explore more Indonesian youtuber. In my opinion, The Lopez Group is the best youtuber in the Indonesian scene. I chose them because they are very creative with their content. They might not have the most subscriber count because people have different taste, but I will put them as the best Indonesian youtuber. The Youtube scene in Indonesia started to explode in 2017. Many big youtuber appeared from nowhere. The difference between Youtube now and before is that people used to do youtube for fun. Now, people do it for the money which is why the content are not the best now.
ReplyDeleteAh, YouTube. Something that I spend most of my free time with when I was bored at home or when I was waiting for something. I do love to watch YouTube instead of TV since nowadays most TV programs are full of useless bunch of contents that’s sometimes felt too cringy and too boring in my opinion. While YouTube provides everything that you wanted in terms of entertainment like gaming, tutorials or even random videos just to brighten up your day or just to refresh your mood. I do know all these YouTube content creators except Natasha Farani which unfortunately I’ve never heard of her at least once before I read this article. In YouTube, I mostly spend my time to watch Food Vlogs, tasty (the buzzfeed videos for cooking references), and gaming videos or sometimes editing for Premiere Pro or After Effects since I do interested in those two editing software. To be honest, of all those names listed above, I only knew (I mean like we have met online and offline) is Tara Arts since he’s my friend’s friend so a couple of times I play online game with him and his friends which’s too random, people will find it that we looks crazy when we play but hey, who cares as long as we have fun, no one can stop us except if it’s not beneficial for us or to our surroundings right?
ReplyDeleteWe can say that television is now much more replaced by YouTube. The presence of YouTube make a new branch of employment in Indonesia. This six youtubers presented above are maybe the most well-known among Indonesian viewers. But actually, if I were given the chance to make this Top Indonesian Youtubers list, I would definitely recommend to add some of them that are currently under the table so then they could have a broader viewers and subscribers. They are Fix Productions (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChrlVF-GdHm4X1tykEMmL5g) and Froyonion (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG1E2hR9KDuAWFoRO0yyE4w). These two are a production house that already have their own team consisting a lot of people in front of the camera, as well as people behind the camera. I like how they always gives us a unique, entertaining, yet educating content in almost of their videos. The members of Fix Productions have a really good English, so they know they could educate Indonesian through their videos. However, they have their own way to educate people in their “#SokInggris” contents, which means people who are pretentious with their English. While Froyonion has the editing skill that makes milllennials like me want to click on their video. Their studio lighting is set with colored paper so that it’s quite unique.
ReplyDeleteWhat comes to my mind when I read this article was "Youtube Youtube lebih dari TV" as what Reza Oktovian said. It means that Youtube is better than television. I do agree what he said because nowadays Youtube is better than Indonesian television programme. The reason why is that from Youtube, the content is unlimited and you can choose what you want to watch at any time and any places. Youtube also provide many educational contents for kids to watch. Compared to Indonesian television programme, Youtube is better because the TV programme in Indonesia tend to show only a gimmick, useless tv shows, and endless drama. Meanwhile from Youtube, although there is also some useless content, you can choose what you want to watch. If there is no change in Indonesian TV programme, I think sooner or later TV programmes in Indonesia will be replaced by Youtube, Netflix and many other entertainment platform. By the way, thank you for including Raditya Dika on the list, Sir. I really love his "Malam Minggu Miko" videos.
ReplyDeleteWhat is good about being a YouTubers is that you can easily influence people through your certain lifestyles, you just need to make a video of your daily activities, upload it, and people already call you ‘Vlogger’, and you probably will get money from it. There are advantages and disadvantages in being a content creator but some people are succeed to be famous and it is all because the content of the video. Since YouTube is the second largest searching engine in the world (behind Google) and the second most visited site on the web (source: wwwsearchenginepeople.com ) in other words you can promoting things and increasing your brands using YouTube. Some people I know start their career as a YouTuber and half of them are failed, they don’t have a consistent in making ideas, it is obviously not easy to make one video but for sure people with passion and knowing more t on creating ideas is must be not hard to do
ReplyDeleteI rarely watch Indonesian-made Youtube contents as I feel most of them are for light entertainment purposes only and they use click baits and bombastic titles. On Youtube, I usually watch political satires by hosts from the United Kingdom (John Oliver from BBC’s Last Week with John Oliver) or South Africa (Trevor Noah from The Daily Show). However, I am open to dark comedies by Indonesian Youtubers, mainly Majelis Lucu Indonesia. They joke using adult language with topics from politics, social movements, religion, and personal lives.
ReplyDeleteI do have to admit though that famous Youtubers may become a highly sought public figure and earn a lot of money from ads. But many accounts uploaded videos from other creative content creators and overreact it to draw attention, and it made me dislike Indonesian active Youtube uploader in general as they use unhonorable ways to contribute to the Youtube community. I hope there are more Indonesian Youtube content creators create educational and weighted contents.
According to one of the greatest youtubers in the world, namely Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, known online as PewDiePie, a Swedish YouTuber and video game commentator, best known for his Let's Play commentaries and vlogs said that youtube is experiencing an apocalypse. Apocalypse means that currently YouTube has a lot of youtubers but there are no qualified youtubers.
ReplyDeleteI think the best Youtuber in Indonesia is Deddy Corbuzier. The video title owned by Deddy is "Motive". Every video uploaded by Deddy always complies with the conditions that actually occur in the community. One of the videos that I like most about this Motive content is a video about dirty words against children.
Besides Deddy Corbuzier I really like the videos owned by Reza Oktovian, or often called Rezao Arap. Reza Arap has unique and funny youbube content. One of the videos that Reza Arap has is about the number of youtubers in Indonesia, but only a few are good and great. So in my opinion only two youtubers understand about real conditions on the Indonesian market.
Youtube has been a big thing for teenagers and young adults, and I know that there are a lot of kids who aspire to be a “Youtuber” as their career in the future. Youtube content creators can bring good or bad influence to the young people in this era. I think Youtubers like Tina Yong, Ryan Higa, Wengie, JaeSix, Zoella, and Rosanna Pansino can give inspirations with their creative and interesting videos. There are also informational videos provided by channels like Insider, Tasty, and Refinery29. But besides all of that, there are also Youtube channels that are problematic and could give bad influence. The Paul brothers, Logan and Jake, are voted by most people to be the most problematic Youtubers in the world. These kinds of Youtubers also exist in Indonesia. People like Cindercella, Reza Arap, and the 6 Youtubers mentioned in the article are providing us fun, informational, and interesting contents.
ReplyDeleteBut there are also problematic Indonesian Youtubers that only seek for fame and fortune. Awkarin’s name blew up when she posts a video of her crying over his ex-boyfriend. A few months after that, she made vlogs filled with words that aren’t suitable for young viewers even though most of her followers are elementary and middle school students. The name “Younglex” also blew up the same time as her, he made a rap music with her containing lyrics that could persuade kids to be “bad”. Younglex also made an issue last month when he said something inappropriate he was unboxing Blackpink’s album. He received a backlash from feminists and Blinks, Blackpink’s fandom. Especially when Lisa, a member of Blackpink, is coming to Indonesia and a lot of Indonesian influencers are invited to the event (including him). He also claimed that Blinks beat him up (which made a bad name for the fans) and then said that it was all fake and he was just trolling. So in conclusion, I think Youtube is a huge part of Millennials and Gen Z’s culture and Youtubers should be aware about their subscribers and their contents.
DeleteWow. Citra, you make me feel like I almost know NOTHING important about what's going on in Indonesia!
DeleteI guess it is amazing how Youtube has created a lot of job opportunities. When I was younger, everytime someone asked me what I would like to be when I grow up, children in my generation would say either they wanted to be a doctor, firefighter, or any other common occupations. Nowadays, my younger cousin told me that they wanted to be Youtubers - which shows how much the Internet has shaped not only adults but also children in terms of their dream occupation. What tempts them to be Youtube personalities is the amount of money that Youtubers receive from Youtube which I heard is extravagant, and the number of free gifts or endorsements they receive from their sponsors in order to make interesting videos. Seeing from the list of Youtube personalities above, I actually do not watch their Youtube videos, and I don't even know some of them. I prefer watching Ted Talks because it makes somewhat motivated and inspired (since I'm probably the least motivated person) and Comedy Central.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Raditya Dika should not be in the first place, but it must be Atta Halilintar. When we see from the subscribers, he has more than 5 millions subscribers in their youtube channel. Both of them are trying to entertain people by their uniqueness. Raditya Dika videos are likely about something mysterious experience. for instance, like the story of haunted house in Jogja and paranormal experience in his house. The others like his love experiences, food challenges, and so on. Slightly different from Raditya Dika’s videos, Atta Hallintar like to make videos about golddigger pranks, interaction with some celebrities or trending topic person. But, most of it are about luxurious things such as their sport cars, their big house, and so on. However, I believe that their goal is not to show their elegancy or their money, but they try to entertain people, make them laugh, and hope that the people get some positive value about their videos.
ReplyDeleteYoutube has become our daily source of entertainment nowadays. Many people don’t really watch television anymore and choose to watch Youtube. Technological advancement also encourage people to watch Youtube even more since it is more practical and you can watch it everywhere. This phenomena has given a chance for people to express their creativity through making content for people to watch on Youtube. After reading the article, I have known and watched some of the top 6 Indonesian Youtubers, especially Raditya Dika. Raditya was known as a writer and stand-up comedian. He also made a short series and directed movies. He uses Youtube to express his creativity in making content and succeeded on getting more than 2 million subscribers. I believe each Youtuber on the top 6 Indonesian Youtubers have their own creative content. Rather than just to entertain, they also inspire people through their content. The problem is lot of youtubers try to be famous through unethical way such as spreading hate, bullying, etc. They would make content or do something that could get viral easily so they can get recognized by the society. Most people here are probably still interested in those controversial content. In conclusion, we as the content creator or viewer have to be smart in making use of Youtube. Don’t make stupid thing goes viral.
ReplyDeleteEntertainment around the world has changed through the advancement of the technology. The likes of Youtube, Netflix, iFlix and many more allows us to watch anything on our liking whenever we want, this phenomenon creates a lot of entertainment stars such as 'Youtubers'. Indonesian millennials has already familiar with youtube especially when it comes to Indonesian youtubers, take Arief Muhammad for example, he creates his own youtube channel and started to vlogging and publish it, the content that includes on the vlog is exciting and interesting to watch for many people. I personally like to watch videos on youtube but I prefer watching TV, a bit strange right?. I think TV gives the viewers a lot more of exciting entertainment than youtube, I rarely watch movies on youtube or other online platform because it doesn't feel right to me so usually I'll either buy the DVDs or wait until the movie is being played on TV.
ReplyDeleteI have only watched three among all the six YouTubers: Sacha Stevenson, Raditya Dika and The Lopez Group. It was around the middle high school times when I discovered their channels. Sacha Stevenson’s How to Act Indonesia appeared on the suggestion list. I watched it and feel well entertained. It was after another several videos until I started to lose my interest on her. Another YouTuber was Raditya Dika. I already knew Raditya Dika as a movie producer, creating teenagers, love-story-based movies. Malam Minggu Miko that was starred and produced by him was my favourite companion to get through the boring time when I was in the middle high school. It often invited another famous celebrities and new-comers, and there came a video when Raditya Dika collaborated with Jovialda and Andovida Lopez. It was the first time I saw The Lopez Group until in a few years later, I found out that they’ve made their own YouTube channel. I rarely watched all the three channels anymore, though, except for the Stand Up Comedy by Raditya Dika.
ReplyDeleteWatching YouTube has been part of my daily life. Like, I can’t have one day without YouTube. But mostly I listen to music in YouTube. In my spare time, I also like to watch the Youtubers in YouTube. From all six Youtubers, I put Raditya Dika as my favorite one. Because his video containing a very funny and qualified content. Rather than making something related to gossip and stuffs, he is entertaining his viewer. Malam Minggu Miko is his best creation I think, I used to watch all of the episodes. I also like to watch Bayu Skak. In his video, he usually speaks Javanese and that is making his video even funnier. Another video that I usually watch on YouTube is the video about make-up and the famous youtubers who likes to share about make-up is Tasya Farasya. She is so adorable because of her skill and the way she promotes the make-up and stuffs. I admire them so much because they make something entertaining, useful, and qualified and those things are not so easy, so as a Youtuber, someone has to be smart too so the content of the video is nice and worth to watch.
ReplyDeleteIn this millennial age, technology is one of the most important things in our life. We can use technology for almost everything in our daily lives and it makes our job and activities so much easier. One of the biggest technology advancements in my opinion is how the TV is being replaced by Youtube. However, we can’t really consider it as being “replaced” since a lot of people are still watching TV, especially the elders like our parents and grandparents who still prefer watching TV than watching Youtube. For us, “millenial kids”, we are more attracted to Youtube since it offers a bigger range and collection of entertainments that TVs don’t fully provide. By looking at the top 6 Youtubers of Indonesia article, we can tell that Youtube is developing in Indonesia and could also be a prominent business in the future. From what I know, Indonesian Youtubers are either very successful or they struggle to find an audience. They also generate a decent amount of money for their contents. In conclusion, we can say that everything is developing and we millennials would eventually find new ways to make money.
ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing to see how YouTube has become a platform for creative minds to store and show their form of artistry. I still remember opening YouTube looking for songs lyrics, or to watch clips of cartoon that I missed on TV. Nowadays, it has become more than that. Content creators have started to show their originality and to create more entertaining contents that audiences have never seen before. For example, Raditya Dika with his “Malam Minggu Miko” series. It was something fresh and new, hence the popularity. I enjoy watching Raditya Dika’s contents the most among the six YouTubers mentioned in the article. He does various things on his channel, from doing stand up comedies, series, and vlogs, as well as tutorials. He offers different and new things every week, so you don’t get bored of his contents. There are a lot of other content creators that are as successful as him, like Chandra Liow, Arief Muhammad, and Bena Kribo. To name few of my favorites Indonesian YouTubers: Agung Hapsah, Arief Muhammad, Titan Tyra, and Jovi Adhiguna.
ReplyDeleteYoutube has indeed turned into one of the biggest and the most used platform in this era, and we got to accept fact that the existence of this platform has overshadowed many different kind of entertainment platform such as radio, television, and so on. According to my experience living as a youtube addict, i have to disagree with the list of the 6 biggest Indonesian youtubers. Except from Raditya Dika who’s currently at the 4th most subscribed youtube channel in Indonesia, the other five has currently been overshadowed by the two most popular types of videos these days, which is gaming and vlogging. For some reason, these two youtube video style has always been admired by tons of Indonesian, and what makes it even better is that it does not required a lot of effort to make these kind of videos. That is why the number of content creator who’s focused on gaming and vlogging has increased rapidly, while the number of videos that is considered to be more “creative” and took more effort to make keeps on fading.
ReplyDeleteIf I have to choose between television and YouTube, I will choose YouTube, of course. Watching YouTube became an entertainment when I bored or have nothing to do. We can choose what kind of videos we want to watch and choose video by our favorite Youtubers. We can find tutorials, vlog, comedies, game, and bunch of other videos. Some Youtubers start their channel by accident and others starting with high expectation on income or viewers. Being a YouTuber, you can organize your own working hours and having another source of revenue if you have another job. Usually I watch videos by YouTubers outside Indonesia, but I do watch Raditya Dika videos. He always making new contents and deliver the videos with comedies. His serial, “Malam Minggu Miko”, at first was uploaded to his YouTube channel and when a lot of people interested on the series, the series bought by Indonesia television channel and became more popular.
ReplyDeleteIn my perspective, making something like video in YouTube and the content is so good to be watched is really needed to be appreciated. Maybe for some people, uploading video on YouTube may just be only for doing fun thing. But there are also some other people who actually put that activity as a daily routine and intend to earn money from that. For instance, those YouTubers work so hard to think about the content of the video and it should be at least eye-catching or interesting at the first sight. And to get much money, of course they will have to have a lot of viewers in their videos. Not only that, they also have to get many subscribers. If they are not smart enough to promote their selves and their masterpiece in an attractive way, there will not be so many viewers which will impact they might earn less money. That is why, I think being a YouTuber is not an easy job at all. It needs a super creative type of person. And to maintain the viewers they will have to create new ideas for the content of the video otherwise it will be boring and no one will have interest toward their video again.
ReplyDeleteFrom the six Indonesian YouTubers stated above, I look up to Raditya Dika the most. I have been following Raditya Dika before he was even a YouTuber. He used to be a writer of comedy books. I have read his books since his very first book which was "Kambing Jantan". After being successful as a writer, he then transferred his books to movies. The movies were tremendously popular among teenagers and other age groups. Prior to being a movie producer, he created a small series on YouTube called "Malam Minggu Miko" which later became a big hit and inspired him to be a producer. The series tells the story of Miko, who was played by Raditya Dika, searching for a girlfriend. He met various women with different personalities and characteristics each. The light series give a good amount of humor to its watchers. It quickly became the talk of the Indonesian YouTube community as it reached its popularity peak and was continued as “Malam Minggu Miko 2”.
ReplyDeleteFor me personally I like youtube more than TV because personal connection between the audiences and the creators. Since I began watching YouTube as my main source of entertainment and information around the beginning of middle school, I have come across many channels whose creators I have felt a personal connection to. On YouTube, there is a much stronger link between the creator and his audience because their power is derived from the audience. Most channels are not sponsored or supported by other networks. The creators rely solely on their audience which bring in the views and the views, combined with advertising, are how the creators make their money. On television, the cast and creators are paid directly by the network that they are televised on. For me, I love this connection with the YouTubers that I watch on a consistent basis that are grateful and ever so thankful for their audience.
ReplyDeleteYouTube has certain natural advantages in its battle to win the TV wars. Diversity is one of the reason why YouTube could replace a TV in the future, we’ve all been on YouTube with the intent on watching a specific video and found ourselves hours later lost but captivated and entertained by the vast world within it. The diversity within the platform is incredible. Channels can focus on many different categories from gaming to beauty, vlogging to reaction videos, comedy, and even channels focused on the news within the YouTube community. Diversity to this extent cannot be found within television and is a reason many millennials and upcoming generations are slowly switching from TV to YouTube to binge watch while they lay awake at night or use to procrastinate homework, spend their entire day on weekend just to catch up trending videos on YouTube or even something of greater importance.
DeleteI also like the accessibility that YouTube have over a TV, because YouTube is very easy to acces than a TV through an app on a mobile phone or laptop. Although many television networks including NetTV, KompasTV, and others are creating apps and making their networks more accessible, YouTube reigns supreme in this aspect. Any YouTube video can be found with the press of a few buttons (or tap of the screen; technology is something else). Are you on your way to a job video and magically forgot how to tie your tie? Bring up the app and search for a tutorial. Are you bored in a waiting room while your friend who dragged you along gets his throat inspected because he’s been sick for a week? Pull up the app and watch your favorite YouTuber prank people in public. YouTube is always there to entertain whenever the time is necessary.
DeleteOpportunity and exposure that YouTube provide also an advantages that YouTube have over a TV that can attract many people to create a YouTube channel to gain audience and money out of it. I’d be lying if I said neither my friends nor myself have had the idea of creating a YouTube channel in hopes of gaining an audience and creating entertaining content. YouTube provides any type of person with this opportunity. You don’t have to be an incredible actor, be the funniest person around, or have the best equipment. You just have to have an idea and pursue that idea wholeheartedly. It is important to enjoy the process and create videos with the right intentions, or even not to make money and gain recognition out of it. Many YouTubers have gained exposure through their love of creating videos and has earned them a comfortable living as well as a dream job.

ReplyDeleteAgain, YouTube the land where amazing happens, from a nice, pleasing and positive videos to useless, stupid and even worse, salt. Personally, I don’t enjoy much of an Indonesian content since most of them are useless and full of BS I should say, even humor is limited in Indonesia, people don’t understand the fact that it’s comedy. Not to be taken seriously, that’s why I do watch foreign contents since it’s much more salt-friendly, less drama and better quality I should say. Lately, I was in to this YouTuber from idk, Russia or somewhere near that area, known as the Life Of Boris, in which he makes lot of content regarding how Slavs (or Chavs as a comparison in the Britain area) behave and some cooking tips for students (which’s quite useful I should say). This man who never reveal his face makes a good type of comedy content in which he mostly talks about the behaviour of Slavs in general. However, I do love to see how Indonesians react towards some “controversial” YouTube contents made by some people which fortunate enough to have brains unlike some of the Butt-Hurted Indonesians in which their job is just making YouTube a less friendly environment.
YouTube is an online platform that provides many kinds of videos. YouTube is an essential in daily life. These days, people watch YouTube more often than they watch television. In YouTube we could find a lot of wide variety of videos. We could earn money by making videos in YouTube. There are a lot of YouTubers that becoming successful because of Youtube. Back then, there are only a few of local YouTubers but now there are a lot of local YouTubers that having entertaining and good content to watch. One of the local YouTuber that I usually watch is Raditya Dika. Raditya Dika is a famous comedian and he might be the most watched Indonesian YouTubers since he has the most followers compared to the other local YouTubers. Raditya Dika's Youtube channel is very entertaining yet also educating so that is why I subscribe his channel. He do a lot of things in his YouTube channel and I could say that his videos is worth to watch since it have minimum trashy content and very funny.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the Youtubers mentioned in this article, I am only familiar with Raditya Dika, Sacha Stevenson, Christian Sugiono, and The Lopez Group. However, I watch Raditya Dika’s videos the most and I have watched the others’ videos once or twice from the explore page. I first knew Raditya Dika because of the books he wrote. The ones that I have read are ‘Marmut Merah Jambu’, ‘Manusia Setengah Salmon’, and ‘Cinta Brontosaurus’. One of my friends in middle school had all his books and I borrowed those three from her. Then, I searched him up on Youtube and started watching his series ‘Malam Minggu Miko’. I watched every video from season 1 because I find it really funny and addicting. Then, not long after I started watching the series, season 2 came out and even though I liked season 1 better, I still watched all the episodes. I also watched some of his movies that was shown in the theaters.
ReplyDeleteI have never watched any of Natasha Farani’s videos, but when I read that she has various makeup videos I looked her up immediately. I probably watch beauty videos in Youtube the most. I really enjoy doing make up and it all started from Youtube. Now, I know so many stuff about makeup and skincare, starting from the products, techniques, tools, and etc. Other than being very helpful, makeup videos are just fun to watch. Some of the Indonesian beauty vloggers that I love are Stephanie Rose, Kiara Leswara, Stefany Talita Visa, and Tasya Farasya. As for Natasha Farani, maybe I have never heard of her because she mainly posts hijab tutorials and I don’t wear hijab, nor do I ever look up hijab tutorials. Though, her makeup tutorial videos are quite interesting. The different looks she did are very good, and her videos are helpful and fun to watch.
DeleteOut of the six youtubers, I really enjoy watching Raditya Dika and The Lopez Brothers (Skinny Indonesian 24). Both of them started making youtube videos quite a while ago. I remember watching SkinnyIndonesian24 for the first time. I was twelve years old back then and I am at my secondary school. My friend recommended the video “modus” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0paOaXYQSs to me and at that time, “modus” was a really trending word. After watching it I find it really amusing and the word “modus” became so much more popular amongst us teenagers. Even the older generations started using that word. I also remember watching Raditya Dika’s YouTube series: Malam Minggu Miko. Raditya would upload them weekly and I too would watch them every week. Sadly, Malam Minggu Miko series ended after two seasons. Now, I lost my interest to watch them as I don’t really like their content anymore. I currently enjoy watching stuff from Casey Neistat and Dan Mace, and I hope that Indonesian youtubers can follow Casey’s unorthodox way of communicating through his youtube videos.
