STOP THIEF! HIGH-TECH STYLE
At one time, thieves stole physical things, money, or financial instruments. But now with the development of online resources and property, there are virtual thieves, and the police are starting to take these virtual crimes seriously. For example, if you own property, are a merchant, or sell services in an online community like FarmVille, you could be a theft victim if someone steals what you own or cheats you out of money due to you—just like in real life.

And not only virtual police might crack down, but real-world ones, in some places where they are treating a virtual crime like a real one and going after the thieves. So now this is one more high-tech crime the police have to pursue, along with the explosion of identity theft, which might even be a problem in virtual communities because someone may think you are the culprit when virtual goods go missing.
I began thinking about these possibilities for new crimes, criminals, and methods of detection, when I read on Breitbart.com about how police in Finland were cracking down on the theft of virtual furniture. According to the article, the cyber thieves stole significant amounts of virtual property from around 400 users of a virtual hotel hang-out called the Habbo Hotel. This hotel site is a place where participants can create a character to chat with virtual friends, take care of virtual pets, and acquire virtual furniture for their rooms by paying a fee. Consider it like Ikea meets the Internet. In this case, the virtual thieves stole the furniture. They did so by setting up phony Web pages, where they could steal user names and passwords, much like thieves have created phony sites that look like they belong to your bank or Google account. Then, with this personal information, they were able to sign into each person’s profile on Habbo and personally transfer their property into their own accounts.
Although some Internet users might consider this activity just another fun pastime for hackers, or even admire the thieves for being crafty and cool, the Finnish police treated the theft quite seriously. They even searched homes in five cities in Finland, took computers from several suspects, and conducted interrogations with a number of people. In their view, the value of the items stolen, even though virtual, was significant. Now that people are paying increasingly significant sums of money to build up their property ownership and buy more and more services at these virtual sites, there is a substantial monetary value for any stolen property. Plus the virtual victims may suffer real emotional damage as well, since for many people, these virtual lives are as real to them as their everyday lives; for some people, these virtual lives may be even more important, because they don ’t have much going on in their everyday lives.
Thus, these online virtual thefts have become a serious business, and increasingly, the police can be expected to pursue them as serious crimes. But how? In a small country like Finland, a national police force might be the appropriate agency to deal with such crimes. But what about in the United States, where there are police forces in cities and counties and special state and federal agencies, which deal with different types of crimes on different levels of society? So where do these virtual crimes fi t? In the case of identity theft, sometimes the local police will handle this, especially if the identity of the thieves can be traced to a particular city or county. But if the theft is national or international in scope, the FBI and international agencies like Interpol might get involved. Also, the Federal Trade Commission now operates an Identity Theft Clearinghouse.
So possibly law enforcement ’s identity theft approach might be a model for virtual thefts, depending on who takes your virtual property and where they live. In turn, the need to deal with these thefts is increasingly critical, as more and more people participate in these virtual worlds and invest more time and money in them, creating even stronger opportunities for theft. Perhaps there might even be more serious virtual crimes, like muggings, robberies, and murder, in these worlds.

For instance, maybe another virtual player—or even someone angry at you in real life—might seek revenge by attacking, injuring, or even killing off your character. Perhaps as in real life, the villain might use a gun or knife, bludgeon your character, or maybe administer a virtual poison, so your character comes down with a horrible disease and dies.
In short, just about any kind of crime, not just theft, might have its virtual world parallel. And as the crime becomes more serious, virtual or not, not just the virtual police, but the local police as well as national and international law enforcement agencies may play a role in finding the perpetrators. Then, once they do, real-life prosecutors and courts, as well as virtual ones, may seek to administer justice in the form of real world fines and jail sentences; perhaps there might be virtual parallels, including permanent exile, in which the perpetrator is thrown out of the virtual world with the hope he or she won ’t return in yet another guise with another identity.

Cybercrime has risen to its prominence in this day and age. One particular case is JPMorgan Bank data breach in 2014, with 76 million customers’ data was hacked. The firm though, managed to recover the data, with four perpetrators were caught with their pants down. Cybercrime can be executed through fraudulent emails, fake phone calls, or shady text messages; these might include a glimpse of your personal information in order to gain your trust. There are several precautions that should be taken to protect yourselves from cybercrime: encrypt your personal data, check whether the website has the certificate of security or not (indicated with https://, the “s“ stands for “secured“), and never give any information that is related to your personal security on the Internet, for instance, your credit card number. As we live in an era that utilises much more technology than ever before, we need to keep up with these inevitable changes that require us to be smart.
ReplyDeleteFinally this topic came out! I want to share about how big the cyber crime could be. If you have spare time please watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Usu9z0feHug . This video is talking about North Korean Bank Heist. I think it is very interesting. The heist actually almost made Bangladesh lost $1,000,000,000. Luckily it did not turn out that way, but the hackers successfully stole $81,000,000! It is still a lot of money! The most scary thing is that the mistake was only because of one click on the infected e-mail. A single little click on the mouse resulting that lost. The hackers was very smart because they laundried the money in Macau which is the city of gambling in China. They did the money laundy at the casino so the authorities could not track anymore where the money went. But some IT experts was actually able to track down the hackers’ IP Adress and it was from North Korea! But unfortunately, there is no direct confrontation for confirming this North Korean’s act of crime.
ReplyDeleteThe next one, i want to share about my opinions which are the ways to prepare ourselves from this “future crime”. First and the most important is to not clicking sites or e-mails randomly. The only way that the cyber criminials could do any harm is when they successfully injected their malware to our personal gadget or knowing our account’s password. There is not likely for them to know our password randomly, therefore the thing that we need to concern the most is preventing them to inject their malware. This can be prevented by raising your awareness if you want to click anything in any sites especiially in suspicious one. Last but not least, do not open any e-mails which the sender is not your contact or already known account!
ReplyDeleteThe second one after preventing some malware infecting your gadget is to improve your security systems. But it wil not be enough to improve only ours, we need to increase the bank’s security system and other’s systems that use internet as their medium for any moneys or data transactions too. Therefore at the end, we still need to do research and preparing any countermeasures for future cyber crimes that could be happened.
The rise of cyber-crime are something that needs to be taken care properly, not only by the government, or the department of cyber security. It’s something that people need to be aware of nowadays. Since IT has been a huge complementary part in our lives, we also needs to aware of the risks and the way to make the best out of it since in this modern era, when most of the things essential to our lives were digitized in order to make our lives easier. If lack of safety measures can be identified by the cyber-criminals or we can call it as the black-cap hackers, it will lead to the leakage of data, data being stolen and misused and even some will lead to physical damages to the victim. There are several countermeasures that we can apply in order to protect ourselves from the cyber threats, such as checking the website certificates before we inputted our personal data. However, some people considered that it’s something that’s time-consuming, or some did not have enough knowledge to do so. For me, the most effective countermeasure is by equipping a strong password for every sites that requires our personal information, yes, there’s still the risk of data being stolen but at least, by equipping a strong passcodes it would reduce the risk of the data being opened by the unauthorised parties. Lastly, encryption would be a good method to reduce the risk of data being stolen, however it’s quite technologically demanding. But then, some websites has equipped themselves with their own encryptions so that our data would be protected from the leakage or data stolen.
ReplyDeleteWe as human have reached at a point where we have crime that occur virtually and now we going to have virtual police. I do agree with the idea to have a division of police department that take care virtual crime like identity theft or money theft through bank account but the scale of such a crime can be so big that it may include many people from many different country and can’t be handled by one police station alone. Other problem that we must consider is how far the limit we can have until we call something a crime. In shooting game people frequently shoot and kill each other while in base building games like clash of clans we basically pillage and plunder other village with our troops. In these cases we can’t actually file a case because the crime that happens in the game is a mechanic of the game that creates the game experience. In conclusion, I believe we do need organization that act more or less becomes the police of the virtual world but we don’t have the broad standard for the crime that actually may exist.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the article, I think this is a very interesting topic to discuss. Cybercrime is a major problem in modern society. Because of the early widespread adoption of computers and the internet in almost all over the world, cybercrime has become one of the most popular crime in the past few years. In the era of cyber world, the usage of computers became more popular as well as the growth of technology. This is one of the reasons why the cybercrime nowadays becoming more familiar to the people. We, as college students, are basically one of the vulnerable group as we live our lives mostly through the internet. This includes the extended use of social network sites which some of them expose our private information. In addition, I think cybercrime is a global problem with real and serious consequences, especially among kids and teenagers, that needs to be handled.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, cybercrime is much more dangerous than the other regular crime, because in cybercrime, it is much harder to track down the criminal. The crime can be easily committed from anywhere in the world where the criminal’s identity remains completely hidden and unknown. The only thing that we can do is to avoid it. To avoid becoming a victim of cybercrime, we all need to accept responsibility for our own security and safety online. This means we have to be more careful while using the internet. Try to avoid using public networks, because by connecting our device to public networks, the potential cyber criminal can easily get through our devices. Another way to avoid cybercrime is very simple. Do not give out your account passwords. Keep the passwords just only to yourself. It is necessary to prevent any other person from accessing our private accounts without permission. I think that’s all I can say for this topic. Stay safe everyone!
ReplyDeleteTalking about the crime in the virtual world, the gamers will bring many stories of their experiences. First, it was a great move made by the police in Finland for responding the crime although it was only in the virtual world. In this comment, I hope there will be a next move from the police department around the world regarding the increasing number of cheats in the virtual world.
ReplyDeleteI had a character in my virtual account. I had to make an effort to obtain a great weapon. But, another player obtained a great weapon without any effort. He could do that because he used a cheat in the virtual world. If stealing the online furniture was considered as a crime because people would be emotionally offended, reaching a certain stage in the virtual world with an illegal way so that he could smash another player was supposed to be considered as a crime too. The player who reached that stage with a legal way would be emotionally disturbed because of the people who got into that stage with an illegal way. Justice has to be equal. Real world or even virtual world.
I find this issue with cyber crime to be even more interesting after reading this article because I have studied IT in depth for 2 years before back in high school and have known that issues like cyber crime and identity theft is very common in the virtual world. What I didn’t know was that virtual furniture theft from the Habbo website was taken very seriously by the Finnish police and took measures just to find the culprit. To say that what the police did was exaggerating is inevitable but this kind of mindset or probably law enforcement would be really beneficial because then the police would be very serious in any type of cyber crime and go all out to capture the thieves for it; unlike in Indonesia where cyber crime isn’t taken seriously by the police and they would just tell us to handle the situation ourselves or blame us for being involved with the thieves which is stupid. I really wish that government regulations about cyber crime would be implemented soon in Indonesia so that this country would be safer, virtually.
ReplyDeleteWe all know that we have lived in an era where technology dominate our lives, everything that we do is related and connected with technology. These past years, cyber crime cases has risen. Cyber crime divided into two categories based on what I read online. First, crimes that target computer networks or devices these types of crimes include viruses and denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. Second, crimes that use computer networks to advance other criminal activities these types of crimes include cyberstalking, phishing and fraud or identity theft. In my opinion cyber crime is more dangerous than a regular crime because you can’t easily track the person who committed the crime, they may committed crime and left no track and mark of them we can’t even notice if something happen. People around my age use internet as a daily use and we are attached to it, I think we as users have to be smart enough and know what to do to avoid cyber crime. Be a smart user by using a unique and strong password, avoid using public WiFi, skip email and text you don’t recognise and etc.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the way the Finnish police reacted to this cyber crime situation is a bit of an exaggeration. Not to say that cyber crime should be seen as a less serious threat and therefore be treated as the lowest priority when it comes to comparing it with any other forms of crimes, I’m just trying to point out that for the case of losing a virtual property which marks the number of hours which an online gamer has traded for his/her time and opportunities to socialise in the real world and make him/her a better person, such an invasion on someone’s online gaming properties is something that the players need to deal with by themselves and take whatever losses that they might experience as life lessons that would constantly remind them of the cruelty that the online world hides and keeps under its so called “carpet of never ending entertainment and escapism for those who see the real world to be a dull and boring place to live in and be a part of”. And besides, if these online players were to search for someone to protect them against the injustice that hackers bring, online games have their own support centres that deal with this kind of situation. The game World of Warcraft has once humiliated a hacker by stripping his/her online character of all the items that he/she previously owned, killed, and banned. What all these players need to do is ask. If calling for support doesn’t work, it merely proves that the game was never worth it in the first place. And what happens to these types of games? They die in the market for other online game companies to learn and endeavour to provide the best service to their current or potential consumer/player base.
ReplyDeleteThe era of globalization, people tend to use high-tech to steal precious assets of one firm or their targets. Their targets are usually money like debit etc. But, these past years, Hackers (What we call the thief nowadays) usually break the security code of one firm and threat the firm weather they want to publish it in public or the firm give some money to the thief. The weirdness is now that, a lot of hackers are working with one firm not because of the wants of the hackers, but, the company wants to make safe of the company. Not only by hacking companies, ebay (an online store) is also hacked in the payments area because hackers know that payments are crucial for everyone. To prevent this stuff in the future, there should be a law that is made by UN to control hackers and internet users so there won’t be cases like cybercrimes in the future.
ReplyDeleteCybercrime is getting more popular these days. Internet has becoming one of the way to do crime. In the world, there is already thousands and thousands of cybercrime case, committed by people around the world. Scams, fraud, and phising is common in this era. People these days are always holding and using their gadgets in their hands, and these things is the main reason that cybercrime is growing and growing. Thefts can now steal from the internet without worrying about getting catched and beaten up by the locals, hackers can easily access someone’s credit card, and even kids now can steal their parent’s credit card credentials and use it to buy something for themselves, without their parent’s knowing. Internet can be such a dangerous place to wander around, as so many scams and crime is being committed as you are surfing the internet. In this era, government should care more about cybercrime as we are now living in a modern era, where people can’t be separated from the technologies and internet.
ReplyDeleteThe rapid development of technology may cause several impacts, it can be positive or negative. One of the negative impacts is cybercrime. Cybercrime is described as criminal actions done in a digital form. From the article, it is mentioned that identity thief has become one of the common issues. Identity thief usually occurred within social medias. It can be done by using personal information to create a new account or by doing account takeover such as hacking. This invisible crime has pass through personal boundaries in which the victims may experience emotional effects, it includes anxiety and depression. In some cases, identity thief also done for financial purpose. The personal information is used to establishing credits. In this era of technology, the police and the law enforcement agencies need to have strategies and new ways to overcome this virtual issue. In addition, the users of social medias also need to beware with their information security.
ReplyDeleteCybercrime, also called computer crime, the use of a computer as an instrument to further illegal ends, such as committing fraud, trafficking in child pornography and intellectual property, stealing identities, or violating privacy. Through the internet, it has grown in importance as the computers and become central attentions and entertainment. Most cybercrime is an attack on information about individuals, corporations, or governments. Although the attacks do not take place on a physical body, they do take place on the personal or corporate virtually, which is the set of informational attributes that define people and institutions on the Internet. Cybercrime highlights the centrality of networked computers in our lives, as well as the fragility of such seemingly solid facts as individual identity. Although with many different types there is, governments seem to be lacking in preventing this crime to exist. Making many people to be a “black sheep” of the incident and not taking any responsibility on it.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s unlikely to be so any time soon. The vast majority of crimes require little or no skill. Drugs (buying, selling, trafficking), violence (domestic, random, muggings, etc.), sexual (rape, molestation), and do not require the level of technical knowledge that cybercrimes do. And, they’re part of society going back a long, long time. It’s sad to say, but they're built into humanity (in part for evolutionary purposes, some might argue). Sometimes the lines blur (selling drugs over the internet is technically a crime, and crosses state/national lines - which is an additional crime).Additionally, cyber defences, while lagging somewhat behind attackers, are always advancing and making known attacks difficult. We can’t defend against the more traditional types of crime - we can only react. I predict cybercrime will dominate all crime in this world because today, people are smarter and they cybercrime are still hard to detect the criminal.
ReplyDeleteEveryday, as the time goes by, the existence of technology is getting sophisticated. Almost every sectors in a country is now adopting a technology-based method; including school, business, government, hospital, bank, and many more. By that, we can say that the existence of technology can certainly give an advantage for us, especially in order to ease our daily activities. However, the disadvantages given by technology is also inevitable; and one of the most common one is cyber crime. In my opinion, cyber crime is a violation action of which taking someone’s right illegally by hacking their personal information through cyber (technology); for example stolen someone’s money right from their account, overtake someone’s data for personal benefit, using people’s data without their permission for their personal benefit, and many more. Also, cyber crime known as a serious problem in nowadays; that is why I think the government needs to embrace every people in the country to help them find out, perhaps, the existence or issues of the cyber crime in order to reduce or prevent more of their illegal activities.
ReplyDeleteI think cybercrime is one of the negative impacts that comes along with all other positive impacts of the development of technologies. All things in this world comes with two sides, the good side and the bad side. Aside from it bringing efficiencies and convenience into the world, it also gives easy access for anyone to access anything while remaining 'invisible' to others. I think for a company to avoid any types of cybercrime is by having some security system or having someone that understand how to prevent cybercrime happening in the company. But as for individuals, I think the government need to take these cases more seriously and making new rules and laws regarding the cybercrime activities. Also, they need to help the public to understand the danger of cybercrime and how to prevent it from happening, starting by teaching them about what should and what should not be shared in the social media, forms and types of cybercrime, and how substantial it is to keep your privacy from the public.
ReplyDeleteNew technologies does not always bring positive changes as we can see with the example of cybercrimes, with more or less importance from the steal of personal data and credit information to the steal of virtual furniture on Habbo as we can see on the article; it can be seen as less important as a thief in real life, because many people don’t feel guilty online and feel protect with the feeling of being anonymous online, stealing furniture in an online game can be perceived as a joke, completely different from stealing furniture in real life, same for insult, many people doesn’t hesitate to be mean to others on social media and say things they would never say to someone in real life with a feeling of impunity and that it won’t be hurt someone, even though those have the same impact.
ReplyDeleteIt also correlated to the fact that new technologies have evolved rapidly, faster than the law and many cybercrimes are not yet punishable by law or are complicated to judged.
As we all know, people start to think their virtual life is as important as their real life. They start do anything to meet their goal on some site or platform, even buying something virtual with their real money. At first, cybercrime considered as a joke and police never taking it seriously. But now, we put all our information virtual and we can get access to our banking account from home, which is by internet. Nowadays theft can take our money from their house and not even met us. What police in Finland do is a good start to handle cybercrime. Of course cybercrime is as dangerous as regular crime, and it can be more harmful than usual crime. Because we are not meet the theft personally and the culprit can change their identity every time they steal or hacking to someone account. The government should make a regulation to handle this cybercrime and we have to be more careful when put something private on the internet.
ReplyDeleteI want to give some of my thoughts about cybercrime in the aspect of bullying and negative response to other internet users. Nowadays, internet is a common thing for us. Moreover, we could say that sometimes internet is a necessity. We could share, search or simply connect to other people in the internet. We could see the response of others toward what we decided to share; positive and negative response. I think as human, our brain could automatically response to what we see or what we hear. But, we need to understand that negative response need our control. Unfortunately, we still can really see in internet or social media to be more specific that negative response that people share to other internet users sometimes were not expressed well. Maybe, we sometimes forget that the reader also human who has feelings. I hope, internet users or social media users could wisely use the facility to comment. We need to think twice before we claim other people with certain label. Everything happens for a reason.
ReplyDeleteI also want to give my thoughts about cybercrime in the aspect of fraud and crime on the internet. Little do we realize that we are so close to the internet or simply our social media account. We share our moments by photograph, videograph, or writing. I should admit that internet is beneficial in this era. There is a movie whose title “Searching” which was played in the cinema a couple months ago. The movie made me thought that internet is indeed beneficial for us in any way. But, we could not also deny that sometimes internet is used as a media to do crime. Crime in internet known as cybercrime, it could be fraud, kidnapping by the internet, and other crimes. The unexpected issue on the news about the cybercrime sort of a reminder for us to carefully use the internet. We need our control to protect the rights of ourselves as internet users, but we could not also forget the obligation of using the internet; be a wise user to ourself and for others.
DeleteInternet is everything. We can search anything we want to know from the internet. It is as simple as we open our gadget or laptop, click safari or browser, type anything we want to know on google and then many information from many different sources or website will appear. Internet is an important thing in today’s era. With internet, anything is easier and faster. But as technology started to grow, many people began to master technology but unfortunately there is some people misuse the internet for crime. Most common forms of cybercrime are cyberbullying, phishing or using fake email messages to get personal information from internet users, misusing personal information, and pornography. Children are usually the victim of this common forms of cybercrime because they are still innocent. That is why kids must be supervised when they are playing internet in order to avoid someone misusing personal information. And we also must be careful when giving a personal information on the internet.
ReplyDeleteCyber crime is such an interesting topic to discuss. Nowadays, as the technology keeps developing, I think it is time for us to consider cyber crime as a serious ‘crime’ which also needs to be followed up seriously. After I read the article above, I think the Finnish police is a bit exaggerating, following up a crime in the virtual world, but then if we see it from the different perspective, it might be a good chance to start follows up cyber crime as a serious thing and make people be more careful on the internet and do not do such crime. Cheating or stealing in the virtual world can caused great losses too because there’s actually a lot of paid content in nowadays virtual games. Cyber crime can also be a serious threat in reality because it can led to a serious ‘real’ crime. Well it’s a crazy world indeed, even people killed because of illogical reasons.
ReplyDeleteIn this modern era, everything becomes more sophisticated especially the technologies. And because of that we have to realize that crime is no longer just a real thing that can be seen by our eyes but also in another form. Like right now, cybercrime has been found everywhere. It’s simply because nowadays people can’t really get apart with the internet. We basically really depend on the internet because for instance, if we need to figure out something we can easily find the answers on the internet, or we always use the social media in our daily routine. Because of those reasons, there are people out there who make use of this condition in negative way. I think what we can do as a user is we have to be wise to choose which one we should really share on the internet and which one is not to prevent the unwilling to happen. And also, the authorized one should really pay attention and take the real action toward cybercrime.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of cybercrime happening these days, from cybercrime that requires little to no knowledge of informational technology such as drug trafficking, human trafficking and also assassination. These kinds of crime does not require a high tech expertise and can be reached easily through deep web and the transaction is paid within minutes with crypto currency and then the crime is going to be very hard to track because the funding and transactions Is anonymous. Second is a cybercrime that requires a very high expertise of informational technology such as hacking, spread of viruses through computer and more. That kind of crime can be avoided by sorting and not opening suspicious link. Sometimes, if people is sent with email, they would just open it and also the link containing the viruses. That’s why. We as a user must be smart and more aware of the threat surrounding the digital world.
ReplyDeleteCyber-crime is a term that refers to criminal activity with a computer or computer network to be a tool, target or place of crime. Included in cyber crime are online auction fraud, check fraud, credit card fraud. Current technological advances are sometimes not only used by the community in positive activities. However, in development, technological advances are also used as an opportunity for 'criminals' to commit crime in cyberspace or other media which is often known as cyber crime. Cyber crime types and violations vary greatly as a result of the application of technology. Cyber-crime can be in the form of wiretapping and misuse of information or data in the form of electronic or electronically transferred, electronic data theft, pornography, child abuse as objects against law, internet fraud, internet gambling, website destruction, in addition to system destruction through viruses, Trojan horses , grounding signal and others.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the exposure of Cyber-crime, I'm not going to talk about the global aftermath of Cyber-crime doings, but intended to describe the crimes domestically.
DeleteCyber crime is now increasingly 'flourishing'. Based on data obtained from the Directorate of Crime of Cyber Crime (Dit Tipidsiber) of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Unit throughout 2017, namely January-October, the Indonesian National Police in Indonesia handled 1,763 cyber crimes. From this figure, the National Police has at least completed 835 crime crimes. The settlement of the case is categorized as a complete case file (P21) or a letter requesting the termination of the investigation process (SP3). In this data, the highest cyber crime is fraud. In the presentation of the data, throughout 2017 the Aceh Regional Police handled three cyber crimes cases, one case with pornographic content and two cases in the case of insult and defamation. North Sumatra Regional Police (North Sumatra) handled 95 cyber crime crimes, with details of one pornographic content, one online gambling, 53 cases of insult and defamation as many as 30 cases of fraud, two spread of hostility, six cases of threats, three cases of illegal access. Of the total, 45 cases have been resolved.
We need to know that cyber-criminals are those who have high expertise in computer science, cyber-criminals generally master algorithms and computer programming to make scripts. They can analyze how the computer and network systems work, and able to find a system gap that will then use these weaknesses to be able to enter so that criminal acts such as data theft can be successfully carried out. Personally, I think that Cyber-crime is completely wrong in every way, in any aspect you can think of. Morally, it's impolite to disturb and penetrate other people's private matters. Even though most people think like that, most intelligence agencies still conduct operations to gather information using illegal or controversial methods. This spark debates and demos obviously, but for me it's just a matter of morale or occupational hazards.
DeleteIn this modern era, everything was being done by using technology from basic household activity such as moping to a lot more complex things such as trading, financing and other business activity. This makes people do anything easier for example if we want to buy our bills or buy something from the internet we just click a button and it will be done in a matter of minutes, but it is vulnerable to cyber crime. Cyber crime is a crime that involves modern technology to do crimes such as robbing, manipulating, or even hacking. Yes, to have a virtual bank account will make everything such as buying things in the e-commerce but it is vulnerable to hackers, they can see your financial data, your balance, and eventually rob your money by just a click of a button. So we as a modern generation has to use technology wisely and carefully to prevent any mishaps.
ReplyDeleteSince we are depends so much in technology and internet, cyber crime has become a serious problem these days, because many daily activitiy from surfing through the internet to online businesses were done through technology and internet. It makes many people to committed a crime through technology or internet to get easy money by scamming other people, fraud, etc. Cyber crime is a serious problem in economy sector because it can damage the global economy. Based on McAfee report (global computer security software) cyber crime annual damage to the global economy at $600 billion, or 0,8% of global gdp, which is increasing from a 2014 study that put global losses at about $445 billion. The main drivers of this growth include the easy availability of cyber crime tools, the rapid adoption of new technologies by cyber criminals, the expanding number of cyber crime centres, and the growing sophistication of top-tier cyber criminals. This is why cyber crime is a serious problem, especially when cyber crime have a big impact to our economy.
ReplyDeleteTo prevent this cyber crime happening in the future we need to understand how this cyber crime could happen. Cyber crime can be simply defined as a type of crime committed via the internet. These crimes can be committed against property, persons, or government. No one is exempt from becoming a victim, but understanding how cyber crimes happen can help to avoid falling victim to one. So, how does cyber crime happen? Basically, cyber crime happen because the the hackers manage to find weak spot in your technology network. To prevent this action from happening there is several action you can do: update your outdated software in your technology, make a strong password for your online accounts, use an antivirus, raising your awareness while surfing throung the internet, improve your security systems in your technology, and stop being neglient about cyber crime because, sometimes people are simply negligent with their confidential information. Activities such as using public computers, saving passwords, and writing down passwords, can give a criminal access to confidential information. The hackers will take advantage of this information to obtain, forge, and manipulate information.
