A poem: Everyone's Green

do what i want to
do as i please
thinking of others
wouldn't be me

i don't want to cause
a song and dance
unless they're
dancing around me
and the song is about me

i'm giving off sunshine
i'm turning the stars
why don't you breathe me?
whoever you are?

i don't want to cause
a song and dance
unless you're
dancing around me
and your song is about me

this is my story
written by me
i dangle my glories
i pamper and preen
I'm so nearly perfect
and everyone's green

beauties they hold me
lit by the moon
cameras are rolling
as i boogie and croon

i just want to make
a song and dance
where you're
dancing around me
and this song is about me

here is my picture
coloured by me
the tallest of poppies
as red as can be
but nobody's blue
because everyone's green

god bless the faint hearts
the dowdy and meek
they are imprisoned
and i'm their release
so don't you be yellow
when everyone's green

  1. A DIARY OF MIKE WAZOWSKY

    I’m born with slight differences
And indifferences have always been my shield ever since
That’s what I’m trying to be
Even though it doesn’t alter anything

    I’m born with slight differences
Big eyes, bigger eyes, no—biggest eye
No eyebrows, so can’t make Instagram eyebrows
    But that’s okay, it’s okay
    I’m a loser anyway

    I’m born with slight differences
    Round, very round
And with horns sticking out of my head
No hair, can’t bride them like Elsa did
    But that’s okay, really
I don’t want to freeze anyone by the way

    It’s green all over
From the top of my head to my fingertips
It’s all the same; I ain’t got sunburns
My skin doesn’t fit any beauty standards
    Why am I so different?

One day, I asked my Malay friend
And I told him how sad I was about being green
He said green was a perfect colour

    1. “Green was the epitome of plenary disguise,” he added
But Adu Du has always been so proud of his skin colour
      He wouldn’t understand the inferiority,
The concern that holds my heart so tight that it is hard to breathe lately
He saw me trembling, and decided to put his hands on my shoulder
“Green is not bad. It’s all in your head,” he looked at me in the eyes
      I nodded. I trusted him. I did.
For a man who only seeks for revenge, he’s quiet reassuring.

The next day, I was trying to be proud of myself
“Green is not bad. It’s all in your head,”
I was repeating the words in my head like a broken record
It succeeded, almost felt like a dream
Turns out only take a little reassurance to not feel all inferior!
But the triumph didn’t last for long
A few colleagues of mine—some are jerks and the others only follow them—shouted,

    2. “Hey, Wazowski! Still looking green like my grandmother’s peas, huh?” and they laughed
My big eye was sweating, and I did nothing but run
Real men don’t cry. Real men don’t cry. Real men don’t cry.
But real men have heart too. And sometimes they are hurt.
The sound of machinery filled the air, but I could care less about that.

I didn’t know how I could get her number, but I dialed it anyway
It was really weird for I didn’t use any phone, but instead—
      “Hello there,” she greeted.
“Oh, hi.” I was sweating, and I could see her smirk mocking me
“So, green. What can I do for you?” she asked.
“That’s rude. We’re both green.” I don’t know where I got the courage to say that in front of The Wicked of Oz, but she didn’t seem to mind.
As if she knew what I was thinking, she said,

    3. “I’m used to be called that, Mike. I won’t get offended.” Thank god, I don’t need any wizard to turn me into some green-flying-monkey
“So,” she started “you want to be like a normal person?”
I nodded. I was very desperate.
And she swung her wand, spelling the cast I knew nothing of.
There was a pop! sound with green smoke, as well as her disappearance from my mirror
I coughed a little, and when I laid my eyes upon the figure standing before the glass, I smiled
Tomorrow is going to be great.

There was an old saying, “magic comes with a price,”
I didn’t think about it then, and look how my indifferent side brought me.
I was walking down the street, when a girl approached me and asked for my photograph
It was nice actually, until it became tens, and hundreds only in a few minutes
I was chased by lots of fan girls that I had to hide in a forest full of weird creatures
I was crying. I want my old self back! I want the round-and-green-Mike Wazowski back!
It didn’t take long when a blue fairy approached me and smiled, “I heard you.”
And indeed, magic really comes with a price.

      I’m born with slight differences
Big eyes, bigger eyes, no—biggest eye
No eyebrows, so can’t make Instagram eyebrows
      But that’s okay, it’s okay
‘Cause I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

    4. Whoa, what an amazing poem you made, Mutiara Helga. In my point of view, this Helga girl is really talented. She can make this amazing and really long poem. Her poem is easy to understand. Her poem is also funny, she is also having lots of ideas. She thinks about the green thing because of the title of the poem has a green sentence in it and she chooses Mike Wazowski, that green monster with a huge eye from Monsters Inc. She also can place herself if she is Mike Wazowski. Helga also described Mike Wazowski appearance clearly in her poem. She also can creatively mention other green thingy such as Adudu, that green alien from Boi Boi Boy. Mutiara Helga is so creative and an amazing writer, she can made an amazing and fun conversation between Adudu, the Alien from Boi Boi Boy and Mike Wazowski, the monster from Monster Inc. What a nice job, Helga!

    5. Hi, Violina! I’m sorry I did not reply your comment sooner as I could not find the article and I was occupied with many things. Anyway, thank you for your very warm words! They are very encouraging and even motivating me to write more. I’m not an excellent writer as I just wrote what was on my mind when I read this article. I was worried as I might write something totally, completely, and absolutely different to the topics (and honestly, I think I just… did.). Now that I think about it again, what is the meaning of the poem in the article anyway? I cannot comprehend every words and sentences as they are too confusing (or maybe I’m just too brainless for this.) I caught the word ‘green’ and immediately was reminded of any green creatures existed in the animation world. But I think you’re leaving The Wicked of Oz out of the sentences. I don’t recommend you to do that to her in the future as she has this magnificent power and she could turn you into something you hate the most (In Mike’s case, it’s the green-flying-monkey.). Have a nice day, Violina!

  2. This poem interests me. From the first read (and the picture of Simon Cowell), one might instantly assume the writer was writing themselves as a self-absorbed and narcissistic celebrity and/or singer, with the obvious signs like ‘I pamper and preen…I’m nearly perfect’. Reading from the second stanza alone, it is painfully clear that the writer is so egoistical to the point where they only want to listen to songs about themselves. But at the same time, this poem could also be about a confident celebrity whom appreciates and loves themselves (but not to the point of narcissism). ‘The people whom are green’ with envy could be about normal people beneath them or it could be about ‘haters’ and malicious anti fans. The line ‘I’m so nearly perfect’ could also be seen as the writer acknowledging while they have their flaws, they are also proud and happy about their strong points as well. These are one of the reasons why I love poems so much, how their meaning can change depending on the way you see them.

  3. In my opinion, the poem is written by someone who is self-centered. It is clearly seen from the first verse that he or she does not think about others very often. I do not really understand poem very much and the title of the poem which is “Everyone’s Green” does not give me much clue in solving what the poem is all about too. The diction of the poem is not an everyday language so it is rather hard for me to understand wholly at the first glance. I am a little confused of how the writer wrote in the fourth sentence in the seventh verse “and this song is about me”. I am not sure of which song the writer actually refers to as it is a poem not a song. This might just be because I am not a very poetic and I am not into poem that deeply.

  4. Okay so I guess we’re all free to interpret this poem since it is posted here. I don’t really understand this poem but based on my interpretation, this poem is telling us a story about someone who is super self-centered, arrogant and generalized all the other people. I think that personalities suits with a lot of selfish politicians nowadays or some greedy narrow-minded rich people, who think that they have a ‘higher’ dignity since they have higher social status compared with the other people. They think that they’re the ‘perfect’ one and the others are just specks of dust. Here is my feedback to that poem.

Wake up ye people of the earth,
Cause the sun has shone on you,
Why putting yourself into the mold others has made for you?
Be whoever you want to be.
    Run, Fly, Explore
Write your own story and sing your own melody,
Cause why you have to be green when you can be the rainbow itself

  5. At first glance, I thought that the poem is written by a person who is highly narcissist and incredibly arrogant. Yet after reading it the second times, what I had a glance of something unprecedented: despair. In my opinion this poem is written in a self-centered manner as an escape from reality by someone who is desperate to be famous. A dream of becoming a star is indeed difficult to achieve, and in a lot of cases set aside countless of applicants. I suppose that this poem is written by one such person whose heart have been shattered by the cruel nature of the very industry. The term everyone is green might be interpreted that everybody around the writer is money oriented and it is hard for him to have somebody he can trust. Sometimes the truth behind arrogance can be something that is really sad, for a broken heart can corrupt one self.

  6. I never commented on the poetry on this blog before, because to be honest I don't really like and understood poetry. Same as with this poem, actually this poem is very interesting, because there are some pictures that support it. However, as a person who is not too obsessed with poetry, I am a little confused to catch the meaning of the poem. After reading it, I can only interpret what is in my mind, I believe people can interpret this poem from various perspectives. However, in my opinion this poem describes someone who is very arrogant, selfish, and relies heavily on power, he wants everyone to obey him. Or vice versa, this poem can also be written by someone who is in such a sad condition that he wrote such a thing. However, the title of the poem itself is actually very confusing, and I don't know what the title actually relates to the poem
