Maybe it is weird to see someone commenting on this post but since Mr Adrian always said that we’re all free to comment on any article, so here I am. Seeing my name sank in the bottom of the chart for weeks is so saddening. I hate myself for always procrastinate eveything and then being stress in the end of the day because a lot of reponsibilities are pilling up, especially the responsibily to do the ews comments. To be completely honest, I’m a super lazy person and also considered super ignorant to things that doesn’t really affect me. I found that it’s super hard to comment on something when you don’t feel irritated or annoyed with the thing that you want to comment on. I spent some of my spare time opening the ews blogspot in the past few weeks with the intention to comment on few articles, but I always ended up only reading some and write nothing because I don’t feel irritated by the articles I read. If there's anyone wants to share about how you motivate yourself to write, please reply to my comment below :) I really need some advice, thanks
Hi Shenn! I understand how you feel and I’m sure you’re not the only one feeling this way about university work. EWS assignment is relatively simple but this is where it gets tricky. Because we perceive EWS assignment as simple, we often underestimate it. I guess a good motivation for you to start commenting regularly is to be aware that being persistent is a lot better than rushing towards the end. Another motivation is that it is relatively easier to get good grades in EWS in comparison to other subject (perhaps accounting or mathematics to economics). Remember that the key is to be persistent about it. Another factor that may help you stay determined to do EWS class assignment is the awareness that you are practicing academic writing by commenting. Reading different kinds of article helps you exercise your critical thinking and nourishes your ability to communicate your opinion in the form of paragraphs. Reading the article also means that you are unconsciously learning and broadening your perspective. I hope this helps!
Jessica’s comment is quite helpful considering I’m in the same spot as Shenn, only difference is that Shenn has actually managed to catch up while I’m still a lost cause. I don’t really have anything advisable to say, I’m only here trying to relate with Shenn and reach out for help. The problem with me is that I pile up my work and leave them to do in bulk when I find the will to. I am usually capable of doing heavy workloads in one go instead of doing work incrementally, but with how the grading system of this English Writing Skill’s class work means that I can’t implement my working methods. My motivation plummets to the ground each time I’m reminded that I’m weeks behind and because of this, my comments count gets even worse each week rather than catching up to the target. In all seriousness, I am going to force myself to adapt with a new working habit by diving my tasks and do them one by one instead of all in one go. With five weeks remaining until the end of the semester, I have to do 6-8 comments a week in order to meet the 56 comments target.
I’m a deadliner person, writing comments is a new thing for me since I don’t have my own blog and not really into writing. Personally, I think EWS helps me to write even better than before, I mean, my writing is not that good but here I’m trying to do my best. It motivates me to do more and more. When I was little I read a lot but as I am getting older I’m busy with all the teenager activities like, hangout with friends and watch movies instead read books. On the table it shows that I have completed 28 comments, my precious 28 writings. Well, one thing for sure, I do enjoy commenting articles as I’m finally come out with my own opinion, which is fantastic. It was hard for me to express my feeling but here, I feel like I could write everything I want, as long as it relates to the article
I used to be up to date and on top of the charts with my comments, but last week I didn’t have the energy to write any. So here I am, desperately writing comments in the middle of the night in order to comply with the set amount of 32 comments due before tomorrow 10 am. At this point I’m not sure yet if I will write another three comments tonight or if I will wake up early tomorrow and write them then. “Luckily” I noticed that I’m not the only one spending his evening writing comments for EWS. I guess it’s something natural for young adolescents to wait with finishing their tasks till the last moment. I hope that one day I will be able to overcome this bad habit, but I think it’s easier to say than to do. As my idol Bruce Springsteen once said: “it’s not the time in your life, it’s the life in your time”.
I can see from this post how the types of EWS student does vary. It can be categorized as several different groups. I can say that the students on top, are the over-achievers. They are over-achievers because they go beyond the expected blog post for each week. There are also the 'okay I need to do this' kind of students, where they would go until the expected blog post per week. Then, there are the lazy students, who do not even reach the expected blog posts. The worst students are the 'let me just do it on the last day of EWS' where they are not doing the blog posts each week, compiling them to finish all 56 blog post on the last day before finals. This shows the exact replica of the groups in our daily life society. There will always be the ones very ambitious of things, ones that are above average, ones that are below average, and the ones that actually don't care about life at all.
Honestly, I’m quite intrigued by the fact that this table clearly shows the struggle of many people in maintaining a constant performance throughout their lives, doesn’t matter in which task they specialise in or strive to have a good result at. This table also allows us, the students, to not feel left behind knowing that there are also other students who are currently located on the same level as us. If anything, this would reduce the temptation for a student to enter a state where he/she would basically prioritise quantity over quality in the way that he/she carried out his/her task. This forces the students to read the articles that you, Mr. Adrian, have uploaded to the blog in full, as well as giving you the assurance that all the efforts that you have exerted in finding and creating those articles will not be in vain. One thing that I want to point out based on my observation, I don’t think that this table which you prepare every week actually acts as the reason that motivate all the EWS students to strive and meet the weekly 4 comments requirement. This was proven by the fact that previously, it appeared that no matter how many weeks had passed, students located in the lowest portion of the table surprisingly did not show any signs of considerable progress or willingness to catch up with their fellow students. Therefore, one possible factor that in my opinion, has proven to be the reason behind the growing number of comments coming from those students, is time. Knowing that they could no longer postpone any further, the nearing due date had become those students’ greatest fear that forced them to choose to act now over the option of typing down fifty six comments in a single night.
writing an essay whether it’s a 10 pages of essay or just a short essay like this comment is something that’s not new for me since i’ve quite get used to essay-writing tasks back in high school. However , regular essay making like this commenting task is not something that’s easy and it’s not difficult either. During the early weeks, all of us might think that doing 56 comments in total for this semester would be an easy job, but i hate to say this but the truth is, it’s not. It ain’t easy to maintain your mood on a weekly basis to write at least 2 per week, and as a person that procrastinate a lot compared with most of people i know and close to. It’s going to be difficult, i also struggled before due to the fact that i need to write 10 comments for this week as well as other tasks which makes me busy and my habit to procrastinate also contributed to this pile of comment which’s been accumulated since if my memory serves, around 3 weeks ago. Now, i’ve finished around 9 comments and i would not satisfy me since i still got 20 comments to go to end the semester and it would not be easy to be honest, considering the fact that our tasks are increasing in numbers followed by a huge number of materials to study for the semester exams and many more makes it more difficult to manage the time to comment. Eventhough that when i had an opportunity to have a free time, i would use it for taking a rest. I hope that i would be able to finish and exceed the amount that Mr Adrian had set during the first meeting.
It’s been almost a month since this blog post has been posted. We’ve almost reach the point where the semester’s about to end, I can remember the day when I was so ambitious regarding this so that I finished the task in which we need 4 comments on Friday, I finished it on Sunday or even I did the task for the next week and during the week, I still managed to give 4 comment to the posts. As compared with my current situation, with all the tasks being continuously given by many lecturers makes that streak cannot be continued up until the end of semester, to end, I just wanted to thank Adrian for the nice and enjoyable lectures and also with the games given as part of a learning process which makes a nice way to end our week after tons of lectures, quizzes, homeworks and bunch of dramas throughout our weeks and months. I hope that you will not forget us and just a tip: can you please give a longer deadline than Friday at 10 in the morning. That’s all sir. Have a good day.
