  1. This is i think one of the most useful comments that have been posted so far. I am brave to state that because when i saw the article one particular part straightly draw my attention which is "How to make Onigiri" This is very useful for me because i have 4 morning morning classes that made me unable for me to have a proper breakfast in a proper time. Since the first day of university, i have always had breakfast at around ten or eleven. Having a meal at ten or eleven can make you confuse to whether are you eating breakfast or brunch. It then also affect to postpone the time of my lunch to 2 or 3. Onigiri is always the solution to my problem where i feel hungry at the morning and wanting to have a little bit of energy in morning classes. The problem is that the price of the onigiri is quite expensive for small meal and having the ability to make your own onigiri would totally be decrease in food expense.

    1. Dhika’s comment is very relatable! Before I went to Universitas Gadjah Mada, I always had breakfast before starting the day, and it had been a habit ever since. I have two morning classes, and it screws up my years-long habit. It forces me to attend classes in the morning in a condition of hunger, and it disrupts my focus to the lecturer. I differ from Dhika, I almost never purchase an Onigiri as an “energy supply” for morning classes, and I have not found what the solution is. I plan to make pre-prepared meals for morning classes, but I have several difficulties. Right now, whenever I have morning classes, I usually hold my hunger until after class and may result in an anomaly in eating time for the rest of the day. I also agree with Dhika’s opinion of the price of Onigiri, with so little portion, it costs considerably expensive.

  2. Eventually I'm writing this comment in the middle of a night and those videos just make me hungry right now, and national dish of all countries showed us the attractiveness of their own culture but i just can't believe that indonesian tumpeng represents our country national dishes since there is still so many more delicious food we have here, like rendang which had been chosen as the most delicious in food competition at international level, and rendang is in the CNN top 50 food and its number one, If you like meat and spices, you'll love Rendang. Even I, whose spice and hotness tolerance is low, eats rendang. Rendang goes well with plain tasting soft food like rice and noodle. But white rice is the best. Why plain? Because rendang is already strong in flavor, you don't want to make it clash with another flavor. But, in between your rendang bites, some light soup would be nice to wash the fat down. And the other videos also told us that making a well known dishes isn't that hard and those dishes really easy to learn especially for us, the scholar who has a few leisure time to spoil ourself with good self-cooked food.

  3. I love to travel to other countries. And what excites me the most when I explore a new country is the food. I always love to eat and trying new foods have been one of my main hobbies. Well, I realized that not all of foreign country foods fits my taste, but well I love the excitement to taste and experience new things. Mostly, what fits my taste the most will be Asian foods. I love Indonesians, Malaysians, Singapore, or Thailands. I love that Asian foods have so much taste and is very good to me. Maybe this because I am Indonesian so that I am used to Indonesian foods. Seeing these videos, made me excited because as I said before, foods always excites me. We can see that every country have their uniqueness and specialty in making their country’s dishes. I am sure that it is all delicious just by looking at how they make them in those videos.

  4. From the 4 national dishes above, my favorite one is definitely fish and chips. Fish and also some chips for me is a perfect blend. I honestly like fish, so it should be natural if I like fish and chips. However, in my opinion not everyone can make fish and chips with a delicious taste, and need special skills to serve that food. Unlike fish and chips, Kimchi which is Korean traditional food, is very easy to make. I have been taught to make kimchi while visiting Korea, and for me it's easy to make kimchi. Kimchi itself has a unique taste, and not everyone will like that taste. However, I myself really like it, plus in this day and age a lot of kimchi is served instantaneously, so we don't need to make it again but can buy it at the supermarket. The video above is very useful, although not necessarily successful in trying it, but at least I have a picture of how to make national foods, which is certainly worth trying.

  5. I think this is the most interesting article for me, which talks about food. Our family hobby are travelling and they use that moment not to find a good clothes or fragrance, the main point is to find a delicious food there. Even it is a local destination or some city in other country, the important thing that we would not forget is to find the most peculiar food there. For instance when we went to Japan, the most popular food is ramen and sashimi, so we try the best restaurant which serve the best ramen or sashimi there. Although the place is very far from our hotel, we just keep moving. At any rate, food is our priority in every place. However, I also have some bad experience with food, when I went to Vietnam. I try some noodles there, in a small restaurant. Actually, the taste of noodle and its soup is really delicious, but there was one ingredient that I really hate to eat, which was Vietnamese leek. I could define particularly about the taste in that time, obviously, the taste was really bad.

  6. Every country must have their own identity; which that identity sometimes can be shown through a culinary. Thereby, every country must have their own specific-special food; usually called ‘National Dishes’. Each national dishes has its own characteristic that represent the identity of its country. Those characteristic can be shown from the flavor of the food, the ingredients use for the food, the methods of making the food, or even the shape or appearance of the food itself. For example India; all people around the world must recognize that the identity of India’s culinary is all about the ingredients of the food. Since India is very rich upon their spices, India’s food is usually made out of several different spices that resulting a strong and identic flavor of spices. So whenever people taste those kind of food with a strong and rich flavor, people will get easily known that the food is from India.

Aside from the flavor, let’s take another example of national dishes that shows the real identity of its nation; which is Japan. Japanese people identic with their fresh and healthy food. Also, the way they eat is always using a chopstick. So, no wonder why sushi is came from Japan. Sushi is considered as a healthy food since the ingredients use should be fresh and people identically eat sushi using a chopstick. That is why whenever people eat sushi, they will easily recognize that sushi is came from Japan.

  7. My most favorite dish out of the 4 videos above would be fish and chips. Though some say that Indonesian dishes are really good tasting, I found some element and the main ingredients of the foods quite bizarre, especially for eastern Indonesian food. It is because in eastern part of Indonesia, people are keen on eating animals such as bat, snake or even dog, and that is one of the reason why I don’t really like the diversity of Indonesian food. As mentioned above, the main idea and ingredients of fish and chips are quite simple. You are only required to mix a good batter and let them rest for a while and dip the fish into the batter. The key ingredients to a good fish and chips are great batter and fresh fish and potato. I personally like to add black beer or soda to the batter since it can make the fish crispier and increase the volume of the batter. And also, by watching the videos above has taught me how to cook foods beside fish and chips, I personally would like to learn how to cook those foods since cooking can be a leisure and can surely decrease your expense as a student.

  8. You can tell so much about a country just by eating its national dish. You can see where it's come from and you can tell where it's going. To understand the way people eat is to understand the way they live, whether its a plate of nasi uduk on the street or a bowl of chicken soup. All national dishes have significance, but not all of them taste good. Here, we've selected some of our favourites, some official and some unofficial national dishes. These are the plates and bowls of dish that not only perfectly represent their country of origin but are also mouth watering. From the video above i realize that there are still many dish that i should try later on. But my favorite national dish would be from my own country, and i might consider Japanese dish as well. I would recommend everyone to try the authentic sashimi and sushi in Japan for sure.

  9. Onigiri has become my go-to-breakfast in college since it is available in the mart. I love how convenient onigiri is and how it just satisfies my stomach in the rightest amount. I love onigiri with beef rendang filling. Onigiri, also known as o-musubi, nigirimeshi, rice ball, originally comes from Japan. It is made from white rice and nori (seaweed) for the main ingredient. Sometimes, in Indonesia, it is given fillings such as beef rendang, hot tuna, tuna mayo, and so on. Onigiri is very simple to make: the ingredients needed are nori, white rice, and optional filling(s). first, cut the nori sheets in thirds and save later wrapping. Wet and salt your hands before forming the white rice triangle. Give enough pressure when forming the triangle and do not squish too tight or it would not form as nice. In my opinion, it has similar features with ketupat. Both onigiri and ketupat share the same shapes and similar tastes.

  10. This article reminds me of summer 2 years ago, I went to London and I tried fish and chips from different kinds of food place/stall. And because I've tried fish and chips in the place where its come from, I can say that fish and chip is good, but not that great in taste-wise. I prefer food that is loaded with different kinds of herbs and spices, like Indonesian as well as Indian food. In addition, I also like Japanese delicacies such as sushi, ramen, and Japanese curry. Japanese also make very indulgent desserts, like cakes, crepes, ice cream, etc. When I went to Japan I haven't tried a single bad food. In every food they sell, they always put very good effort at making them. For onigiri, I haven't really tried it. But I've noticed that supermarkets here sell onigiris, maybe I'll stop by sometime to buy and try it.

  11. Kimchi, a traditional Korean side dish that’s made from fermenting the vegetable with salt combined with a variety of seasonings. It’s very common that the ingredient of this dish consists of cabbages and chili powder. It’s very common that the process of making this traditional Korean side dish often takes weeks and in some cases months. Since I was surrounded by the Korean community during my high school year, I was very blessed to be able to taste this dish in every lunchtime. From my experiences of eating Kimchi, I figured out that not all kimchi tastes the same. Each kimchi has their own unique flavor since each household has their own recipe on making their own kimchi. Some people tend to have their kimchi have more of a sour taste while others prefer Kimchi that has a fresher chili taste but I prefer a kimchi that has a mild spiciness as well as sourness and just a slight taste of ginger that doesn’t overpower the whole flavor of a kimchi. Nevertheless, Kimchi is a nice side dish to have when you’re eating a full Korean meal as well as Korean BBQ.

  12. Every country has its own national dish that they’re proud of. In the video, the national dish from Indonesia is 'Indonesian Tumpeng', or where Indonesian called it 'nasi tumpeng'. It is rice that is shaped into a cone, surrounded by different kinds of side dishes. The rice is mostly nasi kuning, and it is usually served for many people during a celebration such as a birthday party, and therefore nasi tumpeng is usually large. However, nowadays we can find restaurants who sell the small version of nasi tumpeng, usually called mini tumpeng. Personally, I like nasi tumpeng and other Indonesian foods such as rendang and satay. Aside from Indonesian foods, I also like Japanese foods, such as sushi or onigiri. Looking from the onigiri video above makes mouth watery and makes me hungry. The video shows that it is simple to make onigiri. We only need rice, nori or seaweed, and fillings to make onigiri, and yet it tastes delicious.

  13. I can relate to the delicious taste of the fish and chips on the video above. I used to eat a lot of fish and chips when I lived in Sydney, it is one of the most delicious takeaway meals other than kebabs and Indian foods. Although fish and chips is an English national dish, there are lots of fish and chips stalls around Australia which once made me thought that it was an Australian national dish. Fish and chips can be bought for mostly under $10 and it is best served when hot. It is usually eaten with a tartare sauce which is very delicious. It can be eaten with other kinds of sauces according to anyone’s preference, but I strongly recommend to eat it with a tartare sauce. It is a shame that tartare sauces are very rare in Indonesia, the fillet-o-fish in McDonald’s or the fish and chips in Fish and Co has tartare sauce in it, but that’s about it, I haven’t found tartare sauces sold at grocery stores yet.

  14. Food is the most interesting topic to talk about especially, when we talk about the different taste of people in different part of the world. Personally, my dream is to taste every single dish from every country in the world. The video about onigiri mostly take my attention. Why? It’s because onigiri nowadays is really popular in Indonesia because when Indomaret (one of the famous local minimarket in Indonesia) sell onigiri with a different kind of taste and it becomes a solution for those people who don’t have enough time to eat but wants to fill their stomach with small snacks. Next is Kimchi, where it brings me back to 3 years ago when I went to Korea with my school mates for a school trip. Making Kimchi is actually not a really hard task to do, but it need passion to make it because we need to flip every side of the cabbage so the cabbage shape like a square.

  15. There a lot of different kinds of National Dishes from around the world. There are many that I love and there also many that I also dislike. Out of Kimchi, Onigiri and Fish and Chips I am glad to say I have tried two out of those three dishes. I have never tried Kimchi before because I never found any interest on eating it. In my opinion, finding a Fish and Chips that tastes decent is honestly really hard. A lot of people think Fish and Chips is an easy dish because it is just a fish and french fries when it is so much more complex. Sometimes, you’ll find Fish and Chips that tastes really awful because they use Snapper instead of Dory. I personally dislike Fish and Chips that uses Snapper because they usually taste really salty. For Onigiri, I have never tried the authentic Onigiri from Japan before because sadly I have never been to Japan so I don’t really know the differences between the Onigiri from Japan and the Onigiri that I usually consume here.

  16. This post got me hungry, but that’s alright. Anyway, I want to talk about my thoughts on the third video which titled as “FISH AND CHIPS | Hands down the best ever” The video is quite interesting, it is about how to make a perfect fish and chips. He prepare the chips perfectly with some steps. To be honest, I was a little bit surprised when he add some vodka and beer to the dough with some kind of flour there. I was thinking of doing the same way he does, but I don’t think it is practicable enough to people all around the world. But, there is nothing wrong with that! I also love how he seemed passionate about what he’s doing. I have an assumption that he loves cooking! Other than that, I think the video is interesting and useful enough to how to make a perfect chips. Besides, he has a skill on cooking so it makes the video better.

    1. Speaking of foods all around the world, I think each country or region has their own characteristics on their food. It could be the taste, the seasoning, the way they serve the food, and also the ingredients of the food. In Korea, I heard that their food is commonly balance between the meat and the vegetables. This is unique and also quite interesting. They have a strong seasoning, but they could keep the taste acceptable. I can say that I love Korean food, even though it is still adjusted with my country’s taste. I also love Mexican cuisine and Arab cuisine. I once ate a soup from Mexican cuisine and it was really good. The soup was served with some soft breads and they have an unique way on how to eat that. So, I love that even though I forget the name of the cuisine! But, it was a really good soup.

  17. Since this is about national dishes from around the nation, my proud Indonesian self would like to tell you my personal preference of my favorite national dishes. Most of my friends are in love with sushi, some like pasta and some are crazy about a plate of fish and chips. But I would say my favorite dish of all is Soto Betawi and Nasi Goreng. Although, Soto Betawi may not be a national food, I don’t dismiss other types of Soto(s). Almost every region in Indonesia has their own type of Soto, and I think that may show the beauty of diversity. I also notice that in Jogja, lots of people eat soto for breakfast because the warmth feeling of it. I also consider Soto as a comfort food. And the other dish I mentioned earlier, nasi goreng. Nasi goreng is a very versatile dish that people nation-wide has create their own unique taste of it. After all, you can never go wrong with a dish of your own home made nasi goreng.

  18. When I saw this article, I was astonished to how they made a specific type of dish that I like. And that is onigiri. I don’t know why I liked this dish so much, it’s just the texture and the display of that food that got me interested in eating it. I know that onigiri came from the Japanese where they are the masters of making rice cuddled up with seaweed, and we can’t copy it to the fullest of how they did it. But rather than importing it, why not make it for ourselves here in Indonesia. So, this onigiri came out after not long before it was served in restaurants. And of course, I was glad to buy this stuff in the markets with decent price. But it’s still an investment of the foreign that created those onigiri, and not the locals, which still made a huge difference in pricing, maybe the mid-low tier income wouldn’t get to enjoy much of this food in the future.

  19. I agree to what Dhika said, this is a post with many benefits in it. Onigiri is one of my favourite light meal. It is the saviour when I did not get the chance to eat anything but I’m in a rush to go somewhere. It is a very simple snack yet could give the sense that “I’m full” whenever I finish one pack of it. However, just like sushi, I never could make a perfect onigiri. I always have problems with the nori and the sticky rice. I would like to try to make onigiri at home after watching the tutorial.

On the other hand, fish and chips is a food that would test my determination on avoiding greasy food. I love fish -- deep fried battered fish -- and french fries. I mean, who doesn’t? But usually I always pay attention on what I eat. I hate the fact that fish and chips have that pleasure but will leave the feeling of guilt after I eat it.

  20. This section intrigued me very much because I watch food videos on YouTube on a daily basis. I had always had an affinity towards Japanese food and culture, so I chose to watch the video about making an onigiri. As said in the video, onigiris are traditional Japanese rice balls that have been consumed and loved by the Japanese people for centuries. It was very interesting watching him make an onigiri. Making an onigiri is not as hard as it seems, though it might need some practice and a few ingredients that are slightly difficult to obtain in the average Indonesian grocery store; like the pickled plum that is considered the most basic component in a traditional onigiri. Making an onigiri involves a lot of technique that might be slightly challenging, yet can be executed easily if enough practice is done. I observed that the Japanese are very concerned with hygiene because they make foods like these using their bare hands. Videos like these are great, I think, because they globalize a humble, traditional food; while bringing the world together, one dish at a time.

  21. One of the reasons why I love to travel is because I enjoy trying out different foods from different country. I believe that each country’s cuisine is an important aspect that makes a country unique. This is because traditional cuisine is usually passed down through generation and become part of the culture’s identity as well as the blueprint of our taste/preferences. From the traditional cuisine we can generally tell what are produced in the country, what kind of taste are preferred. I personally think that national dishes are medicine for homesickness. Hearing from my friend’s experience studying abroad, all of them agree that they miss Indonesian national dishes the most. This is because buying Indonesian national dishes abroad can be really expensive and that the taste may not be the same. Indonesian archipelago ranges from Sabang to Merauke and even each provinces have its own traditional cuisine. Though Indonesian tumpeng was chosen to represent Indonesian National dish, I have to point out that there are a lot more Indonesian National dishes to choose from. Some Indonesian cuisine that I like the most are Pempek, Rendang, Bakso, and Soto.

  22. Everyone needs food in their life. It is the basic need of human and should always be fulfilled. Watching these food videos always excites me. Because somehow, I can say that watching food videos is satisfying. And also, through these videos, I can see that every food is from different countries, that shows the diversity of each countries. Every country have their own signature dish that shows each country uniqueness and specialty. I love every food in those videos. But the one I got excited about to watch the steps is the onigiri one. Because every time I eat onigiri, I was always curious of how do people make this thing? Because it is really really good yet unique and doesn’t look like it is easy to make. However, after watching the tutorial video, I realized that onigiri is not that hard to make and actually pretty simple. Maybe I could relate this video and try to make onigiri next time.

  23. One of my hobbies with my family is travelling. One of the reasons that we love travelling is to try different kinds of foods from various places. I love trying local foods and international foods. A lot of Indonesian local foods has become well-known worldwide. For example, tumpeng, rendang, satay, and many more. From the videos give, the videos that fascinates me the most are the steps to make onigiri, and the steps to make fish and chips. I consider onigiri to be a practical food. It is easy to bring, and it can last quite long, because it is made from rice. I think it is worth to try, especially for college students who have a difficulty to set aside time to make food. I also found the video of how to make fish and chips interesting. Personally, I like fish and chips. For me, it is one of the most frequently ordered menu in a western restaurant. When I have time, I would like to try this at home.

  24. Personally, I am really interested in how national dishes are made as well as the history behind its making, as I find cultural things or tradition to be unique and a fun thing to observe. Both of my parents are from Java so most of the dishes I eat at my home are influenced by the Javanese love of sweet delicacy. Out of the national dishes presented above kimchi peeks my interest the most. I have tried it once or twice before and I don’t like it, actually I think that it tastes weird. Most of my family member seems to be fond of kimchi even though they normally prefer traditional javanese dish. But, there’s something about kimchi that I can’t explain which makes me want to try it everytime I see one around. The process of making kimchi itself is way complicated than what I think. But, seeing how the original process in the making of kimchi makes me want to try making it as I actually enjoyed cooking. Maybe I will try to make kimchi when I get home to Jakarta and I have the proper ingredients for it because I would really love to try kimchi made in the traditional way.

  25. If I could choose one dish to represents Indonesia's national dish it would have to be rendang. Like many Indonesian people, I love Sumatera's dishes. Living in Riau which is located near Padang, the home of Rendang, Dendeng, Sate Padang, etc., gave me the chance to try the original taste of Padang dishes. It's well known for its spicy, savory, and rich flavour of spices. I have to say, the Nasi Padang i taste in Sumatera is very different from the ones I tried here in Jogja, or in any other Java cities. Once your tongue tastes the original Padang dishes, you can never go back, everything won't taste the same. From the rice, the spices, the gravy, even the ice tea taste different between here and the ones in Sumatera. Don't get me wrong, I love kimchis, sushis, pastas, pizzas, and many other country's national dishes. But Padang dishes will always have my heart.

  26. I love food and one of the things I like the most when traveling is to try new dishes. I have been so blessed to visit more than 35 countries and to explore the local flavors of each culture. The best dishes I have tried so far have been: Sri Lankan rice and curry, Italian pasta, Spanish paella and Israeli hummus. However, my all time favorite dish in the world is the national dish from my home country, El Salvador. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce to you the “Pupusa”. A Pupusa is a tortilla maid of corn or rice flour, filled with cheese, bean paste or even some pulled pork. It is served warm with spicy coleslaw, called curtido, and a tomato based sauce. The price of one pupusa is just half US dollar. When it comes to Indonesian food, I enjoy eating Nasi Uduk, Gudeg and Lotek. However, I am not a big fan of rice therefore I get bored of it easily.

  27. Interesting topic, about food and actually one of those food is my favorite food since I was in elementary school which is fish n chips. This food lies between healthy and unhealthy food category, because it contains fish which is good source of protein, yet the way they processed it is unhealthy because the fish and the chips are deep fried. This food is perfect for comfort food, for me personally. The texture of the fish is complementing the crispiness of the batter which enclosed the heat inside that usually keep the temperature of the fish warm when it is served. That is the fish and chips in restaurant which specialised in serving seafood, especially fish products. However, I’ve also tasted fish and chips which is not as special as what I’ve had in when I went to UK, the batter was not the same because the batter to cook fish and chips are pretty thin and it tends to cool very quickly and it will not become a good comfort food anymore.

  28. After seeing those videos I am really amazed of how many dishes are there in the world that represents the country it is made from, I am also really surprised that tumpeng is there too because I thought it would be something else like nasi goreng or rendang which is already well known in the world of food. Another thing is I am actually writing this comment because I saw the onigiri text and became so tempted to buy one, sadly I don’t really have the money to buy and even if I had I don’t really wanna go out just to buy some onigiri. The reason why I like onigiri is because it very simple and sometime very delicious because not all of them taste good but some of them are really delightful to eat, they also don’t consist a lot of artificial sweetener or something like that at least the original onigiri doesn’t. -Dimasbitel ( Dimas Aditya Permana)

  29. I once read that nowadays millennials have a preference on spending money for experience compared to goods. I feel like trying local cuisines in each country is so much more than finding a delicious meal; but the whole combination of flavor, techniques, and atmosphere creates a great experience that can actually explain the characters of the people, or the history from the country itself. Take an example of Vietnam with its Banh Mi; it uses French croissant which, in a way, reflects the fusion of French and Vietnamese dish. We can interpret from the meal itself that Vietnam was once colonized by French and therefore, shapes the local's preference towards food. Indonesia, for example, has lots of curry dishes, which is commonly known as 'gulai' - a coconut based dish with spices for an additional kick. This is due to a large amount of Indian who moved to Indonesia in the 1800s that was brought by the Dutch to help in the tobacco plantations in several regions and brought their curry dish that is developed by the locals afterward. It's fascinating how you can learn so much about a country just from their national dishes.

  30. Talking about foreign dishes above, as a snack, onigiri is what I like the most because it bears some similarity with the local snack that we see almost everyday at your local market, lemper/ arem-arem. They are basically identical in how they are stuffed with chicken or fish and that they use rice as the main ingredient, only lemper use a different type of rice. I basically choose lemper or arem-arem as my favorite in preference to onigiri, because first, lemper has something sweet in taste and second,it is softer compared to onigiri. But there are some circumstances that I choose onigiri over lemper, such as when I need to fill up my tummy just enough to keep the worms quiet but don’t have the time to have a large meal, I’ll just head over to the nearest convenience store where they usually sell them, another circumstance is when my sister, who loves to cook and sees cooking as her white canvas, decided to make some onigiris for us to enjoy together, it’s not the traditional onigiri but she does make decent onigiris for a millenial 9th grader.

  31. Eating is my favorite hobby, and seeing this article in the middle of the night makes me want to order dishes to make this hunger away. This is a really useful article for most of us who are maybe a dummy in the terms of cooking. My favorite video is the video about how to make a kimchi. Even though I don’t really like to eat kimchi, maybe I can modify the taste so that it will suites me fine. I really can’t wait to try to make a kimchi when I visiting my hometown. Making a kimchi here in Yogyakarta can really be a bad decision for me because its going to make my place even more messed up than it is right now. Fish and chips video is also interesting but sadly I don’t really eat fish. Maybe the times that I ate fish can be counted by hands. I don’t really like fish because it has a really bad smell. For me, it also has an unpleasant after taste. My doctor also not suggesting me to eat a lot of sea food and fish because I have an allergic to it, but it is not that severe so sometimes my mom forced me to eat fish so that my nutrition demand is fulfilled. Another food that I avoided to eat too much is chicken. I have a same feeling when I eat chicken as when I eat a fish, especially when I’m the one who cooking it. But I’m a really huge meat lover, I can eat so much meat that you would never imagine. There’s one experience in an all you can eat restaurant that makes me really ashamed, so I was ordering another plate of meat, I remember that I have already taken 18 plates or somewhere between that number and I asked for another 6 plates of meats. The waiter started to laugh and surprised because I can eat so much meat in a really short time. But trust me, meat is the best thing ever in this whole world.

    1. My dude Nata, i can relate with you to have huge feast upon an all you can eat kind of restaurant, but for eighteen, even plus six resulting a wholesome twenty four plates?! How can even you fit that many in your belly? I think it is humanly possible for some professionals that joined a lot of eating competitions, but for normal man, especially you with not too big body yourself? Nata, we need to hang out to shabu restaurant next time we have time for it. I am very curious, i need to see with my own eyes how many you can eat and how much your stomach swolled in doing so. We should make a challenge for 40 plates and if you did it, i would give you a treat for that one. I think one of the main reason that you are able to do that is your own love for meat, if you like something, it is not measurebale what you can do for it; for your case, it is a love for meat. You are educated to eat meat since your baby born and your mom gives a full support to achieve a peak of humanity for eating in all you can eat restaurant resulting a superhuman being, Nata.

  32. This article about national dishes is quite interesting to me. My family and I have a hobby of travelling to other countries and have a taste on each country’s national dishes. I remember that two years ago, my family and I spent our summer holiday in Spain; a country of bullfighting. There, I tried two of Spain’s national dishes, which are paella and tapas. Paella is actually a main course dish from Valencia, a city in Spain, made with short grain rice and served with green beans, garrofo, chicken meats, and seafood. The latter one, tapas, is an appetizer dish which main ingredient is bread. In my opinion, both of these national dishes from Spain is one of the best national dishes I’ve ever tasted other than rendang, sushi, and tteokbokki. Out of the three national dishes posted in the article though, none comes to my most favourite national dishes. But if I have to rank those three, kimchi would probably be on top of my list.

    1. Ah, my friend Alex, a son of textile mobs in Mangga Dua Jakarta. I am intrigued by one of your favourite food you mention in your comment Alex, kimchi. I was hanging out with my family and decided to try some korean food in ringroad, Yogyakarta, the place is called Bornga. It is a big korean restaurant and i was very impressed with their dishes, especially the beef. But in the middle of my feast, i saw a plate of food. It was like a plate of noodle from the distance, so i do not overthink and went for it. Thus, i am regretting one of my decision for eating without smelling the actual food. The only thing i remembered upon this accident is that i swallowed a nasty smelled with a strong sour flavor and crunchy textured thing to my stomach, leaving shiver down to my intestines knowing i just ate something that i am not supposed to. But hey, after complaining and swearing about 1 minute because of the surprise factor i experienced, i tried kimchi again and it is not that bad.

  33. Fish and Chips

I love eating fish and chips. I see this dish as the highlight of the, in my opinion, moderate English cuisine. The first time I ate this meal was when I went to London with my dad. Later on I would eat it more often. In my opinion you can find the best fish and chips in Brighton and Hove, UK, in this franchise called “Bankers”. I believe they won quite some awards for their dish, which in my opinion is well deserved. Also here in Jogjakarta I still eat it fish and chips every now and then. I know a couple of restaurants where you can order it, but in my opinion, you can find the best one in “Oxen Free”. Oxen Free is a western bar/restaurant in Jogjakarta close to Jalan Malioboro. I’m always wondering how they are able to produce such an amazing dish for less than €6.

  34. Finally more content about food posted in this site. I really love eating food to the point I spare some of my money to eat in a certain restaurant to eat good food. When in come to taste, I usually prefer food that is sweet and fried rather than food that are salty. I am the kind of people that love meat and hate vegetables but still can manage to eat some of vegetables in my diet somehow. some of my favorite food are beef steak, satay, pizza, fried chicken, French fries, and many other food that basically going to give me obesity if I am not start rearrange my diet. I’ve tried some food from other country like onigiri, fish and chips, takoyaki, and sushi. After watching god forsaken first video that literally burning my eyes and giving me third degree boredom over half hour, I realize that there are still a lot of food that I not yet taste and probably never will since some of it full of vegetables.

  35. Food! Something I really loves and appreciate. I always love to eat but I never really cooks. Not that I don't want to, it is just because I can't. When I travel abroad, I always want to try their local foods and just explore their street foods. But sometimes I would just go to their fastfood restaurant and tried a menus that's not available in my country. Strangely, sometimes the same fastfood restaurant can have a totally different tastes and that's the reason why I always visit fastfood restaurant everytime I went abroad. Also, sometimes their local food just didn't match with my taste buds so I just had to eat junk food. This article made me want to travel all around the world and try all of the local foods! Maybe I will probably dislike a lot of the food but at least I will get a new experience right?

  36. I love when there is a topic that discuss about foods, because i really love foods. I would like to travel to many places just to try its traditional and identical foods. This part of me that likes foods, makes me like to cook. Actually, there is a plenty of foods that i like. I like fish and chips, i like kimchi, and i like onigiri also. Every places must have their own identical foods, with theit unique and identical taste, that makes me feel curious to try one. For example, Jogja has Gudeg, Semarang has Lunpia, and many more. If i go to other countries for travelling , the first thing that i'm gling to search is the favourite foods in there. The traditional foods can be one of the attractive aspects for tourist to come in a certain place. Because there are a plenty of people that are just like me in this world, who search for the favourite foods anywhere they're going. From the foods that are shown above, i like kimcho the most. Kimchi's sour and a little bit spicy taste is the one who make kimchi delicious. I usually eat kimchi when i eat in the korean barbeque restaurant. It is like a side dish there, so, we can get it freely. The thing is, i really love food. I love almost all of the food that i've ever tasted before, except broccoli. No wonder why i like food so much right?

  37. From the list of food presented above, I would say that Onigiri is the most useful and delicious for me. Like most university students, i usually don’t have time to eat breakfast before morning classes start. That’s why I usually spend my morning class with an empty stomach. But that started to change since I discovered that fisipmart actualy sells these rice balls. I like them due to the fact that they are simple, filling, and reasonably priced. I often sneak out of class just to get one so that I can suppress my hunger until lunchtime. It’s also not that heavy that it makes you so full. Onigiri is one of the more popular bento ( lunchbox ) in Japan due to it’s simple nature and it’s availability in almost any minimarkets everywhere. The fact that you can literally stuff them with any of your favorite toppings adds up to the allure of the food. If you feel hungry but also in a rush, I suggest you to stop and grab one before continuing your activities.

  38. National food is one of the uniqueness of one country. Since I was born and raise here in Indonesia, also haven’t travelled so much, I would like to discuss Indonesian food. Indonesia had so many traditional food originate from each provinces we have. I actually would be confused when I got to be asked about the national food of Indonesia. Seeing from the video, it shows that nasi tumpeng is the one that represents our country. I don’t think we could just pick one dish and set it as our national food. Maybe, Indonesia should be an exception seeing from the diversity of food we have, so it should be national dishes, plural.
Anyway, relating to the videos, what I like most is fish and chips. Fish and chips never fails to satisfy my hunger. It was opened recently in Jakarta, a restaurant with more convenient fish and chips that actually tastes good. It costs only around twenty thousand rupiah for each. Well, this makes me craving for that fish and chips right now.

  39. I really like seeing videos of people cooking or baking because they look fun and challenging and I don’t really have the necessary skills to do them as well. I am particularly interested in the onigiri video because I love the Japanese culture so much that I often eat Japanese food such as sushi, sashimi, donburi, etc. I was raised in an environment where globalization already influenced me since I was little, which is why I don’t broadly like Indonesian traditional food except for fried rice, ketoprak and batagor. Back then and until now, to a certain point, I like to compare foreign national dishes with Indonesian dishes and think, “Why do our dishes look so primitive compared to foreign ones?” This may be the reason why I’m not a huge fan of my own country’s dishes but I can say for sure that Indonesia has many unique national dishes with smart and unique combination of spices that attracts even foreigners to try them.

  40. Truthfully speaking, I have little to no interest in cooking ; instead I developed a huge, huge love for food and different national dishes around the world. From the three national dishes posted above, I shall say that my favourite is Kimchi. Kimchi itself varies depends on the types of vegetables used, the duration of fermentation and the amount of ingredients used. My personal favorite is the cabbage kimchi or locally known as baechu kimchi, fermented to a certain level of crispness and sufficiently ripened. Kimchi’s unique taste is what makes people love it or loathe it. The dish itself is a red-hued, tangy mix of vegetables and seafood sauces, sour like vinegar, garlicky, pungent in taste and smell, and has an effervescent kick. To the unaccustomed, it might be mouth-puckeringly sour and eye-wateringly spicy but put one bite after another and sooner or later you might be asking for more. Some of my Korean friends said that, it’s not about the taste, it’s all about keeping the culinary balance as some Korean dishes like the barbecue is quite heavy and greasy and what kimchi does is help to neutralise and digest them.

  41. I have tried many types of food from three continents in the world. In 2017, I traveled in Africa, Europe and America. First, I visited Africa to take part in a science project competition. While in Africa I was served with a variety of special foods from this country and what I liked best was African curry, the curry from this country was very delicious and the rice was also very unique, the meat was turkey meat. From Africa, we continued to Europe, in Paris I tried street food because the price of food in Paris was very expensive. At that time I tasted a special pizza from Paris, the restaurant was located just below the Eiffel Tower and the taste was very different from pizza from Indonesia because it was cooked with spices from Europe. In Switzerland I tried an ice cream sold right at the top of Mount Titlis, this ice cream was served in a cool place, just imagine eating ice cream at the top of the highest iceberg in Switzerland. Lastly I tried a street food on USA Times Square, this food is an American curry cooked by people from the Middle East with a special American flavor. That is my experience of tasting food from three continents in the world. I realize that the world is very broad with many types of foods.

    1. Oh i see Raja, so you have a taste for curry rice too? Maybe we can hangout sometimes, i know a place that cooks a very good curry rice. It is japanese kind of curry which is so mild, creamy, and smooth. It is located in Gejayan Street, not so far from our University. By the way, i think we should have a kind of culinary group which consist of our “conspiracy” friends. I think it will be a lot of fun.
One more thing, i am just wondering, did you go alone? I think you like to have some kind of adventure so much, but for travelling alone? I think you should start to travel arround the world with your official girlfriend now, you know? Enjoying life as it is supposed to be. At the end of the day, we need to release our stress; especially from our last night pumping on our homework for six hours and ended up with knowing we did only 40% of the assignment.

  42. National dishes, i instantly imagining rendang. A tasty slice of beef which is so tender and juicy; it is cooked into the perfection with spice for hours or even a night. Rendang is one of the most famous dishes in Indonesia which is come from Sumatra Barat that is popular with their spice. I remember that they use weed leaves (not processed weed that is used to smoke with) to enhance the flavour of their dishes. This is one of the reason that it is legal for Sumatra Barat people to farm weed even planting it in their backyard. Comeback to Rendang itself, even western people that is not used with strong spice in their food can like rendang. You can watch a video in youtube in which one the Buzzfeed video there are some people that is going to taste Indonesian food and they like it so much especially rendang. So at the end, i would like to recommend you to at least try to eat rendang; if you already did, let me know what do you think of it.

Since I was born and raised in Indonesia, I already get used to taste the richness of Indonesian foods. Besides of that, I also like to try every type of foods around the world. Every country has their own national dishes and I always excited to try them all. From the 4 national foods on the article above, my favorite national food is fish and chips. Onigiri is also delicious but not that special. I've ever tried kimchi and I don't like it. In my opinion, kimchi taste so bad. My favorite types of foods is Indonesian foods and Japanese foods especially sushi. Watching the videos above made me happy. I mean food always makes me happy. Whenever you have a bad day, just eat your favorite food I guarantee it will be the best cure to remove your bad day.

  44. This article is one of the articles that caught my attention. Not because it is very interesting, but it is because of its topic "food". I am a person that can be considered as a 'foodie'. Eating is my number 1 hobby. As I travel around the world, the first thing that I would like to try is their national dishes. So far, I really like chilli crab, one of the national dishes of Singapore. I really like the dish because it contains crabs. For me, crustacean seafood dishes are very unique. It needs a lot of effort to enjoy the goodness. For example, when we are eating a crab, we need to put a lot of effort into opening the shells. Thus, we also know that crabs are not creatures that contain a lot of meat. Logically, it does not fulfill your feeling of hunger. However, the unique thing about eating chili crab is how they substitute Asians usual carbohydrates such as rice into mantau, a sweet Chinese Bun. Surprisingly, the taste of the mantau synchronized with the heat from the chili crab because of the sweetness coming from the mantau.

  45. When talking about food, I consider myself not that picky when it comes to foods, I will almost eat everything besides super spicy foods and raw garlic. My parents teached me not to be picky with foods. I also consider myself to be a pretty good cook. My favorite Indonesian dish is fried rice, I think it is cheap to make and not that hard to prepare. After watching the videos above, I recognized one of the food that I have been eating lately after I entered UGM, it is the onigiri. I usually bought the onigiri at the fisipmart, I consider it as a student friendly food, because it is not that expensive, and almost simple to eat, almost like a fast food but healthier. But, my most favorite dishes from the vidoes above gotta be the fish and chips. I love it because it is the perfect combination of carbohydrate and protein. And, my least favorite dish from the videos above gotte be the kimchi. I do not like it because of the savory and sour taste, added with the spicy taste to it.

  46. I'm a very picky eater but I also don't think that much about the food I eat, I could eat only Indomie for three days straight and it wouldn't even bother me. For me food has always been a necessity and although sometimes I much prefer one thing over the other it really makes no difference on what I eat as long I eat it. Even so I still find this post as an interesting topic, National dishes are what I consider to be an identity one of the most defining trait about a place, whether it is a nation or a city, are their dishes. As such there are lot of defining traits that we can observe in national dishes around the world such as Indian food being spicy or Padang food being overly greasy and oily. For me it is interesting to learn a foreign place and its people through their dishes.

  47. My family loves food and traveling. Each time we travel to a certain place, or a certain country, we would try the local food there. I think every local food represents the particular place of origin. It has a story and cultural heritage, and it is something significant for a country’s identity. National food could also help a certain country in terms of promotion. It would also attract more tourists that would want to try a national food in its country of origin. Food is something essential and could unite people from around the world. Therefore, I think national food is extremely important for a country, since it would create that particular country’s identity as a representative, it could help promote a certain country and its other cultural heritage so that its tourism department would increase, and it could unite people from around the world, for example by loving the same national food.

  48. National dishes is an important part of a country's identity. National dishes represents culture, heritage, and environment of a place because every single country has their own national dishes differ with others. The western dishes tend to use less spices on the other hand eastern dishes is using a lot of spices because spices are growing better on a certain condition. Personally, I am a foody my family and I travels a lot and discover a lot of new local dishes because if you want to know more about a place you should try the local dishes for example when I go on a holiday to UK I tried to taste local fish and chips which was worth the price and tried the pie and mash. When I went to Venice, Italy I found a restaurant in a very small alley that sells Pizza and Pasta and when I tried it I was amazed because it tastes so fresh and unique.

  49. Based on the four national dishes on the blog, my favorite one will be onigiri. I really love onigiri.it does not matter how many onigiri that I will be eating, I will never be full. Almost every day, I eat onigiri for my breakfast. I bought the onigiri in a supermarket called “Indomaret”. It might not be the best onigiri or it does not use Japanese rice, but it tastes similar if you compare it to the real one. My second one will be the fish and chips. I am a big fan of fish and with the combination fries, it made a perfect food. As for kimchi, I am not a big fan of it. There is something about the food that does not match my tongue. I do not really know what it is exactly, but I prefer to not eat it. As for the “world A to Z” video, I really cannot explain about that because there is some food that I haven’t tried yet and I cannot comment on it unless I tried the food myself. Some of them looks good though, but there are some food that is very deceiving and taste very bad.

  50. I personally think that this article is very interesting, aside from culinary became one of the tourist attractions of a country, it could also be an inspiration for us to eat in our everyday life. Onigiri for example, Onigiri could be an option if you are hungry between 3-5 PM where in an hour or two you will have your dinner or maybe when you are in a hurry, when you are running late for a class and have no time to eat, simple food like onigiri could always be an option. Among the foods posted in the article, fish and chip is my favorite. Fish and chips could be eaten for lunch and dinner. With the price of fish and chips in restaurants being quite expensive, I think cooking the food could be an option if the price of the food offered is too expensive for an individual. As cooking something will be cheaper rather than buying the same type of food in a restaurant.

  51. Onigiri, fish and chips, and kimchi are all on the list of my favorite foods. When I went to Japan last year, onigiri was the perfect breakfast choice. It was really easy to find onigiri; you could get it in the convenience store and even in vending machines. Besides, it was convenient to eat it. You basically could eat it everywhere. I’d eat it on the Shinkansen train, or while queuing in Disneyland. On top of that, onigiri is very cheap! As for fish and chips, my sister likes to cook it for me. Her fish and chips would have a crispy batter with a tender fish inside. Although I have never tried the authentic fish and chips before, I think her fish and chips are delicious. Other than that, my sister also likes to cook Korean food. So, kimchi will always be available in our refrigerator. When there’s nothing to eat, I’d usually eat kimchi just with plain rice. I think kimchi have a really unique flavor, it’s sour and spicy at the same time.

  52. National dishes in my opinion does portray its country of origin. For me, when a dish becomes a national dish of a certain country, then the dish itself will be a essential thing to ask when we know someone who recently visited the country. I can take Japan as an example. I visited Japan around 4 months ago. Japan has a wide range of national dishes, however the main ones are Sushi, Sashimi, and beef. When people knew I went to Japan, they would frequently ask me about “ Have you eat sushi at this place?” “Have you tried to eat the sashimi from ______?”. It got me thinking that maybe since it is a national dish, and it is very common to people, the dish itself may become a representation of the country itself. Other than being a topic for questions, since it is a national dish, the dish will become essential for restaurants claiming itself as a Japanese restaurant. In Indonesia, there are many Japanese restaurants, therefore the national dishes of Japan must be present in their menu. Typically, a Japanese restaurant must provide at least sushi or sashimi.

    ReplyDelete
  53. National dishes of a country are really unique and interesting for me because it describes the national culture of the country. For instance, Japanese like to eat fresh and raw fish and their food usually are very healthy. Steamed stew called shabu shabu and rice ball filled with meat and vegetables known as onigiri are really healthy. Meanwhile, Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine are usually spicy and full of spices and take a long time to make, for example are rendang and curry. European cuisine uses herbs like parsley, thyme, and rosemary and usually have cheese grated or melted on top of it.

As a food enthusiast, I really enjoy other nation’s dishes and taste flavours that can not be found in Indonesian cuisine. My favourite dishes from the article is fish and chips. But I rarely eat fish and chips with my family because they do not really like it. They say that they have local tongue and does not really like foreign food.

  54. Mr. Coen, I want to thank you for giving us a topic that have a relation with a thing that I love, which is food. Gastronomy or cooking or upaboga according to Cousins (2001) is art, or the science of good food (good eating) as everything related to the enjoyment of eating and drinking. And in other words Fossali (2008: 54-86) mentions gastronomy as a study of the relationship between culture and food, where gastronomy studies various cultural components with food as its center (culinary art). The cultural and gastronomic relationships formed due to gastronomy are cultivation products in agricultural activities so that the embodiment of the color, aroma, and taste of a food can be traced back to the environment from which the raw material is produced. Greg R. (2002) said two hundred years ago, the word gastronomy first appeared in modern times precisely in France in poetry composed by jacques Berchox (1804).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Although the popularity of the word has increased since then, the word gastronomy is still difficult to define. Greg also said that the word gastronomy comes from the ancient Greek gastros which means "stomach" or "stomach" and nomos which means "law" or "rule". And Cousins (2001) divides the gastronomy including the study and appreciation of all food and drinks. In addition, gastronomy also includes detailed knowledge of national foods and drinks from various major countries around the world.

The role of gastronomy is the basis for understanding how food and drinks are used in certain situations. Through gastronomy it is possible to build a picture of the similarities or differences in approaches or behaviors to foods and beverages used in various countries and cultures. According to Steen Jacobsen (2001) on premodern economic structures, before the creation of long-distance transportation systems and cross-national food trade and climate, agriculture and food industries served the local market more.

    2. And differences in natural resources and local expertise produce unique local food production. Where other local elements such as architecture, handicrafts, folklore, regional languages, visual arts, literary references and ways of life develop in different ways and contribute to the character of an area. From a tourist point of view, food with a local identity is equivalent to traveling around museums and monuments. Tourism makes them able to feel the local identity, on the other hand the tourists provide an opportunity for the tourism industry to offer new products.

    3. The process of eating in humans is often associated with socio-cultural aspects. Food affairs in humans are not as simple as putting food into the mouth, as animals and other living things do. The socio-cultural aspect of eating is the function of food in a society that develops according to environmental conditions, religion, customs, habits, and community education. One of the goals of human eating is to obtain enjoyment. The joy of food is different from one nation to another and from one region / tribe with other regions / tribes. For example, food in tropical countries is usually more seasoned compared to countries that have four seasons. In general, foods that are preferred are foods that satisfy taste or taste, namely in terms of appearance, color, smell, taste, temperature, and texture. Food is often considered an important part of stating the identity of a person or group of people.

      Delete
    4. Like for example in China, tea is considered as a drink to welcome guests who come to their homes. And they are embarrassed if the drink cannot be served to guests. Many religious and magical symbols are linked to food. In Islamic religion, goats are often associated with important events in life. Among other things, goats for newborn babies, as sacrificial animals, and so on. In Catholicism, wine is likened to the blood of Christ, while bread is the body. Food is an important medium for humans in dealing with other humans. In the family, the warmth of the relationship between members occurs during meals. Also through eating, a person or group of people can show their power to another person or group of people. For example, employers eat foods that are different from the food their servants eat. The above is food in terms of culture. The above is usually not noticed by everyone and more people do not want to pay attention.

I hope that the informations that were stated in my comments may be useful for you people who would like to read more about food, culture, and the correlation that surrounds and connects them.

  55. in my opinion and my dad’s, if we would like to try a new food that i’ve never eaten before, we should visit the restaurant which serves the best dish out of it, and even though that it might be expensive for example. It would be worth the experience of trying something new in our life. Also, never 100% trust others regarding taste and preferences since it might not accurately match with yours like for example, back then, my mom’s back from Korea after a business trip, she told my dad and i that Kimchee is not recommended to be since according to her, the taste’s weird and quite strange and random as she described that day. Soon enough, our family went for a dinner in a Korean restaurant and i had kimchee for the first time, it tastes good and it’s healthy so i wouldn’t feel guilty afterwards for eating a lot of it. since that day, at home, we stocked some kimchee in the refrigerator and i do eat it when i’m not in the mood to eat home-cooked dishes. Also, besides kimchee, the best dish out of that list is Fish and Chips, even though that it’s quite simple dish as compared with most Indonesian dish and some Western dish as well. I do enjoy it a lot, especially with the tar-tar sauce that’s served together with the dish as a companion. The fish which’d cooked in perfectly golden-brown colored, the crispy chips and a sourness from the tar-tar sauce which makes the combination and variety of taste a perfect harmony.

  56. The fish and chips video is insanely appetizing and it is my favourite one out of all the videos above. This particular video also gave me a new idea about the wide variety amount of fish that can be used to make this dish, because In Indonesia, most of the fish and chips here were using a dory fish as its main ingredient. However, it actually surprised me a little bit when the guy decided to used alcohol to make the outer part of the fish and chips. I’d never imagined that a vodka and a beer could actually make the batter of the fish crispier and taste better. Besides from that, i think the other ingredient used within the video is still accessible and pretty easy to get. If i were asked to make one, i confident that i could execute it pretty well because i like to cook since i was in middle school.

  57. Being a college student means that you have to be creative in the terms of feeding yourself. Making your own meal is a good way to reduce your expense of food. Onigiri is one of my favourite dish to make for myself, back in my hometown in Semarang. The way i serve my onigiri is just shaping the rice into a ball shape without any fillings on it, and wrap them with some nori or seaweed. I was inspired to make the dish this way by my experience in Japan. I was doing a student exchange on Japan back in 2015. My homestay family there often serve breakfast with onigiri and other dishes such as karage, yakitori, and other Japanese dishes. The way they make their onigiri was different from what i know in Indonesia, because in Indonesia, the onigiri sold was filled by chicken, beef, or fish. They made their onigiri just by shaping the rice into ball shape, and eaten with other dishes. They eat their onigiri first, and eat the side dish such as the karage next. It was such a new experience for me because it changes my mind about onigiri.

  58. I love fish & chips and onigiri. I tried kimchee once and I have to say that I hate it. I don’t really like the way it tastes and it’s just not my favourite international dish. However, I have loved fish & chips for a long time. I am a fan of seafood, so fish & chips is one of my go-to dishes to choose at restaurants. The restaurant Fish & Co has the best fish & chips here, and I often go there with my family since they also love fish & chips.
As for onigiri, it’s now my favourite since college started. I have tried it years ago and I do like it, but since the cafeteria here sells onigiri I end up eating it all the time. It’s really tasty and almost everyone I know here loves it too. It is pretty pricy for such a small snack, especially since a lot of food here is relatively cheap. But it tastes really good and I think it’s kind of worth the price.

  59. Food is every human’s necessity, simply because to live everyone needs to eat. Due to this, the human demand for food or eating must always be fulfilled. Watching “food porn” videos have been one of my hobbies lately because I just love how satisfying the food and camera work makes. From watching these videos, I can see that every country in this world has their own signature dish and just their own tradition and uniqueness. From the videos above, I was amazed by seeing how the onigiri is made. I was amazed because this has been one of my favourite food (which I call a snack instead of a meal) and I’ve been eating it quite a lot lately. I used to believe that making onigiri is hard and need professional skills, but watching this video made me realize that it is not that hard to make but in fact it is simpler. In my opinion the only thing that is lacking is better and fresh ingredients, and the tool that is also an important part to make this onigiri. In conclusion, everything in this world is not hard if we are willing to learn and understand better.

  60. From the foods above, I have tried onigiri and fish and chips. I have not tried kimchi before. After seeing the kimchi, I don’t think I would try it though. I love fish and chips because of the crisp from outside the fish but the tenderness of the meat of the fish inside. I think that the name of the dish is kind of odd. It should be fish and fries rather that fish and chips. Why? Because the dish is actually fish and fries. Maybe in the origin country of fish and chips, they said French fries is chips but I still think the name of the dish is kind of odd. These days I cannot function if I don’t have my daily dose of onigiri. Before I study at FEB UGM, I have never tried onigiri before. Then after I tried it, I realized what I have been missing all my life. My favorite flavor of onigiri is the beef rendang. After watching the video on how to make an onigiri, I think that I would try to make onigiri in the future and maybe sell it. Actually, I was a little surprised on how easy it is to make an onigiri.

  61. I think national foods are something we need to try when we visit a country. From the video above, I already try onigiri, fish and chips, and also kimchi. Onigiri is the best food for students, because it is cheap and easy to find. You can find it at minimarket or you can make it yourself. As we can see from the video, we just need rice, chicken or other to fill in the onigiri, and seaweed. When you need something to eat in a rush, just grab onigiri on the nearest minimarket. Kimchi is a national dish from Korea, it is made from cabbage and fermented with chili sauce. At first, I don't like how it is taste and after eating it again, actually its taste a bit interesting. It taste a bit spicy, from the chili paste they add when fermented the cabbage, and taste a bit sour, as they fermented the cabbage.
