Idioms #4

Graham realized he would never win Professor Mary Charlton's heart if he tried to rush it, so he decided to take it slowly - step by step - yes, softly, softly catchy monkey was the right approach.  But all his mooning had left him unprepared for his lecture so he'd have to fly by the seat of his pants and just make it up as he went along. In fact he was almost late and arrived just in the nick of time and then immediately found himself in the hot seat as the students asked him very difficult questions. He was just about to get his teeth into an issue raised by Prima (whose fancy was always tickled by any opportunity to embarrass Graham in public). But he was going to get into a jam because Prima had prepared her question well and Graham was not prepared. Just then, Rugimin and Rugiyem, who had been having trouble in their relationship, started arguing violently in the lecture hall. They created quite a scene. Fists flew and they squealed like kittens. They were taking digs at each other - all kinds of unkind remarks about supposedly private things. But they got their just desserts when Graham sent them to the Dean's Office to receive an official warning for their behaviour.  Rugiyem said it was not fair and that it was all Rugimin's fault but they were both in the same boat and would suffer the same fate. This was not the first time that an EWS student had been sent to the Dean's Office; Prima had paved the way on that when she had been found to have downloaded something illegally from a link provided by the class blog despite Graham declaring that it was wrong to download things.
