"We strongly protest the execution without notifying the Indonesian government," Hanif Dhakiri said in an official statement received here on Wednesday.
The Indonesian Government, he noted, has provided maximum legal assistance by appealing against Tursilawati`s death sentence both in court and in a letter to the Saudi Arabian King.
Tursilawati was sentenced to death in 2011 on charges of deliberately killing the father of her employer Suud Mulhak Al Utaibi in 2010.
Tursilawati`s mother had recalled telling her during a meeting in April 2018 that she had killed the father of her employer after he attempted to sexually abuse her. More HERE.

"We will seek clarification since foreign parties have made an adjustment about us," he said in the Presidential Palace compounds here on Wednesday.
The minister said he will meet Australian authorities to discuss the ban.
Actually, the ban has a small impact because only a few Lion Air planes fly to Australia, while many of Lion Air`s international flights are to Singapore and Malaysia, he said.
"But that is not the problem. But it is a matter of reputation so we must seek clarification," he said. More HERE.

"The Social-Economic Malindo meeting stresses the importance of harmony between the two countries in the socio-economic life in border areas," Chairman of the Malindo Social-Economic Working Group for West Kalimantan, Alexander Rombonang, told ANTARA here on Wednesday.
Rombonang stated that the Malindo meeting had been going very well for 34 years.
He noted that under the leadership of President Joko Widodo, the Indonesian Government prioritized various fields of development in the border areas, including social and economic fields.
"The central government`s program is also in line with the vision and mission of the Governor of West Kalimantan in promoting economic growth and the welfare of the people in the border areas," Rombonang noted. More HERE.

"In 2018, we have made a spectacular discovery, namely two megalithic statues of Polynesian style. But, I prefer to call them the megalithic statues of Srobu Papua," she stated here on Wednesday.
She added that the discovery was extraordinary and unique because the statues were different from those found in other areas in Papua.
The two statues are one meter high and weigh around 50 to 60 kilograms.
"The two statues and other cultural materials are being analyzed at the Papua Archaeological Center," Djami noted.
She revealed that the Srobu Mountain Site is one of the important archaeological sites in Jayapura city. This site is located on a cape in Youtefa Gulf. This area is a place for some locals to look for shells as raw material to make lime that is used for chewing betel. More HERE.
Preliminary investigation and analysis indicate that the Boeing 737 used in Lion Air flight JT610 has been plagued with technical problems in several instances preceding the fatal flight to Pangkal Pinang. In a flight from Denpasar to Jakarta, a passenger reported that the aircraft’s air conditioning were malfunctioning in the pre-flight checks, and that the engines were behaving weirdly and putting out rough mechanical noises. Moreover, the aircraft’s autopilot system was also malfunctioning, forcing pilot Bhavye Suneja to manually take the reins of the winged beast. Luck ran out in the final flight to Pangkal Pinang, when the air traffic controller lost contact with the aircraft over the waters of Karawang. The sudden lost of contact of an aircraft still in altitude might indicate that the aircraft disintegrated midair, similar to the fatal Adam Air Flight 574. Lion Air’s negligence of regular maintenance duties for the sake of profit became the grounds for Australia’s banning of the airline.
ReplyDeleteThe execution of Tursilawati is yet another case in an endless list of Indonesian foreign workers executed in Saudi Arabia. Like so many other stories of Indonesian maids, Tursilawati was fed up of her employer’s abusive behavior, and decided to kill him in his sleep. However, I fail to understand why she chose to kill her employer’s father instead. The Saudi Arabian authorities were quick to convict her crimes and sentence her to death. The issue that is the concern of the Indonesian government is the fact that the Saudi courts lack transparency in dealing with cases like this. The Indonesian consular office was ready to give legal assistance, but oftentimes the Saudi courts fail to inform the office on time. The last straw came when the Saudi officials executed Tursilawati without informing the Indonesians. Ermalena, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives stated that this is a violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic conduct, but there is nothing to be done as the convention is not legally binding.
ReplyDeleteMegalithic sites are signs of some formerly great and advanced civilizations, and when it comes to speaking about megalithic sites, I always consider the possibility of a civilization with a technology and science ahead of their age. There were theories about the existence of a technologically advanced civilizations such as Atlantis, even ancient Egyptians who built the pyramids because quite recently, there is a documentary about the pyramids of Giza, hypothesizing that the pyramids were used as wireless-transmission power sources for the city. We may notice a similarity between these civilizations : pyramids. How could people back then built an almost identical landmarks that lasted for millenias?
ReplyDeletePyramids are often associated with Egypt, tombs, sacrifice grounds, and sometimes just as monument, but of all shapes of structures, why the pyramid? They could’ve had built massive cubes if they wanted to, and it would be easier in measurement rather than piling up stones and bricks in such complex order as in the pyramids. Pyramids are mathematically more complex when it comes to the construction process, and considering the technology that they possessed in their age, it would seem an insurmountable work to accomplish, but they did accomplish that! Speculations have been made that the extraterrestrials assisted in the construction, and also the purpose of the pyramids weren’t merely to serve as tombs of the kings. It remains a mystery as to why no one hasn’t built any pyramids, excluding The Louvre, if we are actually more advanced in terms of technology?
The recent execution of Indonesian female migrant worker by the Saudi government is a very controversial one in my opinion. It is written in the article that Tursilawati had killed the father of her employer, because he attempted to sexually abuse her. While the Indonesian government, has tried everything in its power to represent her in a legal court while also pursuing the King of Saudi Arabia. The court still decided to execute her. In a legal perspective we do have to respect the laws that are implemented in Saudi Arabia and abide by it. But in another perspective it is only moral for the Saudi government to tell its Indonesian counterparts, moments counting down to the execution. So that matters regarding legality and family is able to be finished. Another factor that should be considered is the fact that the Saudi government has violated the 1961 Vienna Convention by not notifying the Indonesian government of the execution, which is a considerably big violation. To conclude more transparency within the Saudi legal system is needed and a much more cooperative work with concerning countries.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to the family of Tursilawati, may she rest in peace. Firstly, I watched her mother’s explanation on a television talk-show called, “Mata Najwa” on a TV station. Here is the link if you are interested; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0AcMe9PLsk&t=508s even though it is in Bahasa Indonesia but I hope it is useful. Unfortunately, this is not the first tragedy that happened to Indonesian family assistant that work overseas. Before I watched Tursilawati’s mother explanation, I thought this was mainly Indonesian government’s lack of concern and communication. But in the video I watched, her mother explain that there were some people who help her to solve the problem. This is the bright light for them, so we still need to thank the government for their concern and caring. Even though, this tragedy happen again, I think we need to enhance our consciousness on the importance of communication and other aspects of letting people work overseas.
ReplyDeleteThe news about the crash of Lion Air flight JT 610 has been the top news topic in Indonesia this week. After the incident on Monday morning, news channels on television almost always shows about the update of this incident. It has been reported that the aircraft itself already has a few malfunctions before the aircraft departs from Jakarta to Pangkalpinang. Even the day before, the schedule of that aircraft was postponed fore few hours from its schedule from Denpasar to Jakarta. There were also passengers that reported some weirdness about the aircraft. For example, a passenger admits there are oddness during takeoff, and she also said that she smelled as if something was burnt. There were also reports indicating malfunctions on the system and the auto-pilot. If the ground crew had noticed these errors, they shouldn’t let the aircraft depart. Some might say that the company’s neglect about this aircraft is because they still consider the profit is more important compared to the safety of the passengers. That is why it is likely that another country may ban the flight to operate in that country.
ReplyDeleteExecution of Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia is an issue that is commonly heard by Indonesian since a long time. A lot of them who were executed were maids. Indonesia is one of the country who ‘supplied’ maids all around the world, not only in Saudi, Indonesian maids are usually works in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Executions by Saudi’s government are also being talked and discussed all around the world. Tuti Tursilawati, an Indonesian maid, was recently being executed by the Saudis, accused on killing her employer. This is kind of a usual story, because the reason why Tursilawati killed her employer was because she was being abused by her employer. So many Indonesian maids who were executed in Saudi, were also being abused by their employer, and some of them killed their employer as a form of self-defense. In Tursilawati’s case, Saudi’s government wasn’t telling neither informing our government about the execution. This causes shock all around Indonesia as we didn’t know about the execution before. This act of Saudian governmen’t can’t be tolerated as it violates the international law because they weren’t giving any notification regarding to the execution to the convict’s national government.
ReplyDeleteRecently, an aircraft disaster happened in Indonesia. It was Lion Air’s flight JT610 which was crashed near Karawang. Lion Air has been known for some aircraft disaster throughout the time. It has been known that Lion Air was a budget airline, and sets their price on a lower price compared to the other airlines in Indonesia. Sadly, unlike the other budget airline, Lion Air often gave their passenger a bad experience of flying. Lion Air gave a poor treatment to their passengers, such as delays, cancelling flights, etc. Not only they gave bad treatment to their customers, their management also gave bad treatment to their own pilot. Lion Air’s pilots were often being called in the midnight to fly the plane, although it wasn’t their schedule to fly the plane. Their pilots are actually less than their planes, so the pilots were often forced to fly the plane although it wasn’t their flight at all. Their airplane are also often broken, or have some malfunction such as the engine failure, the air conditioning system that is not working well, and many more. The recent airplane crash were said to be caused by the engine failure of the plane, causing 189 people to lost their life.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that I would like to address first is definitely the Lion Air incident. This topic has been one of the most topic of conversation in one week. As to how could I say this? Well its because Lion Air has been one of the most used airplanes by the people and compare to the others, Lion Air ticket is pretty low and affordable so that is one of the reasons as to why it’s popular. But after this incident, the decrease in number of customers is not an impossible thing to happen. And to add that, from the post, it is said that Australia government has made a policy banning for its citizens from travelling by Lion Air flight which the Transportation Minister, Budi Karya Sumadi, plans to ask the clarification of the Australia government as to this policy banning. While it is also said that it doesn’t really have that much of an impact, but the reputation of the Lion Air flight is actually at risk right now. But for me, I think the impact will be much bigger if another country decides to follow in suit, especially from Singapore and Malaysia.
ReplyDeleteThe second thing that I would like to address is the execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia. If I recall it right, this story actually came up at the same time with the Lion Air incident. It is said that Tursilawati was sentenced to death in 2011 on charges of deliberately killing the father of her employer Suud Mulhak Al Utaibi in 2010. But it is also stated that she had killed the father of her employer after he attempted to sexually abuse her. It’s kind of sad since she actually deliberately killed the father of her employer and she was sentenced to death since it is an act of murder. But the problem that arises from this sentence was that the Indonesian Government was not informed of Tursilawati’s death sentence. Due to this, Saudi Arabia has violated the 1961 Vienna Convention by executing female migrant worker, Tuty Tursilawati, without notifying the Indonesian government. My only question in this case is, why is it that the Saudi Arabia Government didn’t notify the Indonesian Government since the case itself was related to the labor workers that came from Indonesia?
DeleteTo be honest, I can’t say much in this paragraph since I didn’t really know about the occurrences in the border countries. However, it did pique my curiosity to read this news. In the third news is about the social and economic issues in the border areas between Indonesia and Malaysia. It is stated that "The Social-Economic Malindo meeting stresses the importance of harmony between the two countries in the socio-economic life in border areas," said The Chairman of the Malindo Social-Economic Working Group for West Kalimantan, Alexander Rombonang. He also said that the Malindo meeting had been going very well for the past 34 years and that the Trans-boundary Posts in Entikong, Sajingan Besar, and Nanga Badau have been feasible to operate the movement of people and goods or vehicles between the two countries. Which is a great thing in my opinion because in the border area, they actually connected with each other and by cooperating with each other, they also gain some benefit from each other. Although there are some problem that should be stressed such as the regulations regarding caring for sick people, which is a common concern that should be progressed.
DeleteAnd finally, the news about the megalithic statues in Srobu site, Papua. In my opinion, this news doesn’t get that much of a credit than the first two news. But the fact that an archeologist found two megalithic statues of Polynesian style on the Mount Srobu site located in the Abepantai Village, Abepura District, Jayapura City, Papua Province, should deserve some attention. The one who found these two megalithic statues is an archaeologist from Papua Archaeological Center, Erlin Novita Idje Djami. It is stated that the Srobu Mountain Site is one of the important archaeological sites in Jayapura city. it’s located on a cape in Youtefa Gulf and the area itself, is a place for some locals to look for shells as raw material to make lime that is used for chewing betel. Before the discovery of the two statues in 2018, they actually started the expedition in the year 2014 and the things that they found were not only bones but also various cultural objects, such as pottery fragments, stone tools, and mollusks shells. From this news, we could say that Indonesia, especially in Papua, actually has an extraordinary culture from the Neolithic settlements and if the founding were to be compiled into a historical amusement, it could become one of the historical tourist destinations in Jayapura, particularly in Papua.
DeleteThe first news is about the execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia. I saw this news somewhere in a newspaper I read about a week ago. And then it came up to the national television. There was not much news buzzing in about this topic maybe because it is not what the audience of medias want to see, but this indeed caught my attention. At first, I thought the late Ms. Tursilawati was executed without being given a sentence. I thought so because the news I read and I saw only showed some parts of the story, not the story as a whole. The more I read about the news, the more I understand the situation from both side of views. Well in general, with the law that is conducted in Saudi Arabia, Tursilawati killed a man and she was sentenced to death in 2011. That is the simple sight of the situation.
ReplyDeleteBut if we try to approach the condition deeper, we can infer why she was being sentenced. In 2010, she deliberately killed her employer’s father and she got sentenced to death in 2011. But why would she do such thing ? Saudi Arabia applies the Islam’s laws within the country’s constitutional laws and daily norms. Murder is condemned with death sentence. For the matter of fact, she had deliberately killed her employer’s father after he attempted to sexually abuse her. Was the sentence given to Tursilawati fair ? In my opinion we have to dig in deeper and do more investigation on the crime scene before the court decided to give a sentence. Everybody deserves the same human rights on the court of law. Maybe she could have protected herself differently or just ran out of the house to report to the police. With thinking forward of the consequences and clear minds maybe she could have not gotten a sentence.
DeleteOr maybe the attempts to sexually abuse her done by the employer’s father were just too frequent and Tursilawati had no other way to escape the situation because she needed the money from her work. With different occasions, the defending arguments on the court would also be different. And with great considerations along with fair judgements based on the law, there should be a great chance that she would had been given a different sentence. Not to mention the double standards that are regularly practiced in a country where international workers are often to be found, maybe she was also the victim of double standards among the judges or the witness in the court. But these are only my speculations. It is such an unfortunate that the Saudi Arabia government acted so soon without telling the Indonesia government that her execution was going to happen. To me, what Saudi Arabia government just did was unethical .
DeleteThe Malindo social and economic issues are interesting to me. Even imagining to live in the border areas of country looks so unique. The Malindo socio-economic meeting had been going very wall for 34 years. The meeting is so important because living in border areas mean the people from both countries need each other. We the citizens that are living in Java, or Sumatera , or at least in the center of a province, we can still access basically all needs easier. Because we are still in the same country with the same law if we want to acquire local goods or services. But for the citizens that are living far from central cities and happen to live in border areas, the aspects of gaining the goods or services are different realistically speaking. Because the infrastructures in those areas are quite different. The logistics of the needs can result higher price. Or the availability of the goods are not so frequent because of the distance of the business district to the border areas.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteLooking deeper, the geographical and economical conditions can cause different situations for both countries’ citizens creating a sense of needing each other, because these two different societies have different economy goods and services. Like the people who goes to Malaysia, crossing the border to get a medical treatment, or the people that comes in the Indonesia area to get products that are not normally found and accessible in the Malaysia’s land. This sense of in need of each other is supposed to benefit both sides. That is why a good relationship between the two governments is crucial in handling these conditions of living in border areas. The recent Indonesia’s government project boosts the infrastructures and the economical matters. With the more advanced infrastructures that are accessible for the people, it will help them so much to communicate, to reach out to the market, and get more products with also cheaper logistics price. This condition will boost the economy and the well-beings for the people of the country that is living along the border areas between Indonesia and Malaysia.
DeleteReading about history, documentary files, and archeological informations always amuse me deeply. Growing up, I watch these kinds of materials more often than I watch any other thing. It just gives me the sense of knowing our presence in this world every time I dig in the past. A wise man once said, “ You have to understand your past, to arrange the better version of your future” . I enjoy seeing moments from the past because to me I get to live twice. Especially with these advanced gadgets and easy access to the web, we can see every thing from any date. I used to study archeology back in middle school and went to some competitions on the subject of geology. I can still acknowledge a thing or two about archeology and maybe I can explain them here lol. The other reason I’m pleased at acquiring historical moments or objects is because I get to know what is also going to happen in the future.
ReplyDeleteThe occurrence of every thing in this life is just a cycle in my opinion. In geology, there is a subject of the earth’s crusts movement. We humans live above the lands that are resulted from the crusts movement and the flow of earth’s magma tens to hundreds miles below our ground. We live on the thin part of the crust called the litosfer. Litosfer’s thickness is only a couple of hundreds miles in maximum. That is the ground that provides us the land and the surface of the ocean. It is so tiny compared to the other crusts that expand around thousands of miles. With this movement of the crusts because of the constant change of pressure by the magma flows, the relics of the earth becomes vary. There can be slopes, mountains, hills, beaches , rivers, lands and oceans. Nusantara happen to be bounded by 3 known plates.
DeleteIndo-australia plate, Eurasia plate, and Pacific plate. These result active movements for the plates that create so many different natural resources in Indonesia. Talking about archeology, the presence of human proven by the bones and archeological spots have been established tens of thousands of years before century. As far as I remember, before the last ice age, Nusantara was basically consisted of two major plains. The Sunda plain and the Sahul plain. They were separated by the Wallace line, the Webber line, and Lydekker line. These lines were established after the research done by the archeologist. The Sunda plain spread from Thailand, Philiphines, and all the way Sumatera, Kalimantan, and Nusa Tenggara. The Sahul plain consisted of the whole Papua and New Gunea as a whole to the Australia land. Before the last ice age occurred and finished, the ice across the globe melted and caused the forming of ocean , in the period of thousands of years of course.
DeleteThey were all used to be connected in one big land. So the group of humans living in the same plain must be at least similar. Because they were connected and moved along the plain representing the groups which later on resulting the groups of societies that exist today. The archeological objects and sites prove this theory. So there is no wonder just why Nusantara is supposed to have many cultural or infrastructural heritage from the past. These archeological inventions in Papua that happen to be extraordinary according to the archeologist, is just one of the many to be found in the land of Papua to me. Because if we see the geography conditions of the Papua island, it was in the middle of the Sahul plain. There must be so many groups of humans that lived in a rich culture. I hope the archeological sites in Papua will be more explored by the government and preserved as well as possible. Not only to be the cultural heritage of the Nusantara, but also for the tourism business. Heritage sites happen to be important part for tourism business which boost the economy for the people.
DeleteAmong other news, I was particularly attracted to headline number one “Minister strongly protests execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia”. In my opinion, the Saudi Arabia government should have examined the case further. It is stated in the article that Tursilawati told her mother that the victim of the killing was sexually abusing her. From this statement, it is acknowledged that the killing might counts as self-defense killing. If it is so, then the case would be justifiable homicide. Even though I do not have sufficient knowledge regarding Islamic law, I am sure that there is a missing puzzle both on this case and the punishment imposed. The Saudi Arabia government also did not give the rightful access to the Indonesian consular as a part of the obligation. Nevertheless, I think the Indonesian government’s attitude to the case is proper. It really shows that the Indonesian government does pay attention to Tenaga Kerja Indonesia.
ReplyDeleteThe news that catches my eyes would be Lion Air’s incident. Its really a sad to hear that this incident not only takes people that their family love, this incident also eliminate customer’s trust on Lion Air. Even Australian government are giving a warning sign towards their people so that their people avoiding using Lion Air. This incident show that Lion Air is not capable to give their customer the best service that they could give. For all of you who has already try to use this airline, you maybe already experience that their service is horrible. the delay, geez, it takes forever and also the plane is not as clean or as tidy as any other airline. I like Lion Air, I really like the fact that they’re giving cheap and affordable way to travel by air, but safety is not something that we can compromised. Did you know that one of the fatalities who are being a victim of JT-610 is not in the manifest because that person is using his friend’s ticket and the officer on duty that that allow him to come aboard. They did not even check the ID of their passenger. The sad thing about this is when you’re not on the list you can’t get your insurance form the government and also from Lion Air it self. I hope that this incident wont be happened again in the future.
ReplyDeleteOne of the hottest news in this week is about the air disaster of Lion Air flight JT-610 in the Cape of Karawang, West Java. A lot of suspicion and conspiracy theory emerge since this accident happened. Most of them speculate about the lack of maintenance done by the airlines and negligence of the pilot, Captain Bhavye Suneja. As a result of this incident, many people choose to not fly with Lion Air and this goes as far as cancelling flight that is already bought from Lion Air. Many of you might have known that Lion Air is famous for its bad service and their delays, and I really think that this is one the problem of their management. I also think that their lack of good service to the customer is justified by the company because the cheapness of the flight. The government should put a big concern on this, since this means that the airlines is messing with the customer rights and safety. Government should freeze Lion Air until the management start putting concern with the delay and the lack of maintenance crew on board. Customer rights and safety are something that are not expendables, therefore airlines should prioritize safety instead of profit margin.
ReplyDeleteBeing given a harsh treatment by their boss is employer between the workers of Indonesia in Saudi Arabia. I had heard about the news of execution of one of the Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia but, I did not find out deeper. It is clearly explained in the article that Tursilawati killed the father of her employer because he tried to sexually abuse her. I personally think that the action taken by Tursilawati is the action of defense as this might not her father’s employer first try of sexually abusing Tursilawati. She must be tired of giving him warnings and want to give him a lesson. The government of Saudi Arabia did a mistake in not notifying the government f Indonesia about executing Tursilawati. They have no rights of executing as this execution might be illegal due to them not informing the country of the immigrant about the execution. This case could be brought further as it is clear that the government of Saudi Arabia did a fatal mistake.
ReplyDeleteThe Lion Air problem is the one that intrigued my interest, since it is the most popular topic among us these days. The Australian Government action is justified in my humble opinion. I mean, it’s the most logical course of action to take if we look at the data presented on how the recent accident happened. The plane, JT610, supposed to experienced some technical issues the night before it’s scheduled flight. And yet, the flight was still authorized by Lion Air, claiming that the issues were dealt with. If it’s already dealt with, there should be no accident. Still, the accident happened anyways. This shows the ignorance of the Lion Group on how they are managing both their business, and peoples lives. What’s more unacceptable, was that the plane only had an approximately 2 months of flight time. As the Government of Australia, would you trust your people’s life with them? I would not. But, it will be interesting on how will the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation deal with this problems despite the odds.
ReplyDeleteHere, I will discuss my opinion about “Transport minister to meet Australia over ban on Lion Air flight”. If I become the Australian minister, I will give no excuses and block every Lion Air flight to Australia. Why would I take this action? Because Lion Air just have a tragedy, and for sure the low maintenance is what causes the plane to have an accident. Logically, If ones flight company such as Lion Air can give low price to its customer, they of course minimize the maintenance budget and will decrease the facility and decrease comfort on flight. My experience flying with Lion Air is also not that good, it is because a lot of turbulence happen in the plane while, when I take flight with Garuda they have low chance of turbulence because they can choose the way which have good weather. In my opinion, is Lion Air minimized its fuel budget and force the pilot to go the fastest way so they can arrive to the destination in a faster time due to limit of fuel that they have?
ReplyDeleteSeeing this news about the execution of Indonesian TKW, I got emotional because this is against human rights in my opinion. Saudi Arabia need to take more attention in human rights and to respect human rights. This accident is also unethical because Saudi Arabia is executing an Indonesian citizen without informing Indonesian government first. This is unethical since Saudi Arabia need to respect Susilowati citizen status which is Indonesian, and at least inform Indonesian goverment first. This is also sad because Susilowati did killed the father of her employer, but that is because he was attempting to sexually abused her. As a women, I can not blame her because that is one of a defensive way to defend ourselves and also, we don’t know the actual story during that accident. This is also sad because I feel that women is still stamped as weak and can be easily sexually abused. This is not right and also need to be changed. And also Saudi Arabia can not execute Susilowati without informing Indonesian government first.
ReplyDeleteThis execution of indonesia female worker (TKI) in Arabia isn’t the first time, many women from Indonesia works as maids in the middle east, and leaving their family to reach higher income, but they often ended up being sexual harassment. In this case Tuti Tursilawati murdered her employer when she was trying to protect herself (self defense) from sexual assault. This execution was done without notification to Indonesia government, President Joko Widodo has criticised this decision, saying the government has officially protested to Riyadh and demanded better protection of Indonesian workers in the country. I think Saudi Arabia government should re-evaluate their policy about death penalthy, because sometime the policy isn’t fair enough in this case for Tuti. I think Saudi Arabia should bring justice to all migrant workers on death sentence, and now there are about 20 Indonesia workers that threatens death sentence in Arab Saudi, i hope our government can bring justice to them.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Lion Air accident in this few days, let me say my deepest condolences to the victims of Lion Air flight JT-610. It’s very regrettable to have those kinds of accident again after 4 years ago happened with Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines. So, in this comment, I would like to discuss Lion airlines; the short history, my experience with Lion Air, and compare with others airplane accidents. Lion Air has been founded in 1999 and has been operated for 19th years until now. The first operation was in 2000, flight to Pontianak with Lion Air Boeing 737-200 and was conducted by Rusdi Kirana’s family. Actually, in the 19th long period, Lion air have reached a lot of achievements, such as won the top 5 changi airline awards on April 30th, 2018, won ASEAN Marketing award in 2017, won 2 appreciation in Skytrax World Airline Awards in 2017, etc.
ReplyDeleteHowever, see from its achievements, there were 31 bad incidents which happened to this aircraft from 2002-2018. Moreover, when I compare to others airlines accident, 31 is the greatest number of incidents from all Indonesian airlines in those several years. In my experience, I’m quite often using Lion Air as my transportation to go some city in Indonesia . first, the price is so cheap. It always in the top of search in such ticketing website, for instance like Traveloka, ticket.com, etc (what I mean in the top is the cheapest down to the most expensive one. The cost is average to 300 until 500 thousand rupiahs and just rarely times Lion Air has a flight more than 500 thousand rupiahs for one trip. Secondly, I never felt something horrible experience about this aircraft. What I feel just rough landing sometimes, some shock when it goes through the clouds. But, it is okay for me, because it also happen in other aircraft, even Garuda Indonesia Airlines.
DeleteThirdly, it is very seldom to feel the the delay in this aircraft. I don’t know, such as citilink or batik airlines, more often get delayed compare with this aircraft in my experience. In conclusion, based on my experience, Lion Airlines are fine for me because they can serve services and goods well. Discussing Lion Air JT-610 which got accidents on October 29th before, one factor that always appears in some news is the technical problem. Lion Air JT-610 is a new airline, flighted for the first time in August before. They got several technical problems before the accidents happen, it is 4 times technical problems happens during the flight from August to October. So, the last allegation maybe comes from technical problem again, we may see it from the black box record. The technical problem occurs in its aircraft velocity indicator, which detects from the last speed when JT-610 landed on the water surface, it is 400 knots or equivalent with 740.8 km/h. It is confirmed that the aircraft explode when it jogs into the water surface.
DeleteSee the track records of Lion Airlines, it is possible if they will lose their consumer credibility in the next months. Moreover, based on that articles, the Australian government has prohibited the Australian people to use the lion air, in case to protect their safety. So, my solution to this aircraft is to close the aircraft for several months or maybe years. They should make a lot of maintenance and prove that their airlines can improve better than before. Their staff maybe will face unemployed for several months and they should search the new employment. But, before they close, the Lion Airlines group should show their responsibility to all accidents that happen before. Like what the CEO of has done, he build the customers belief after the accident happen. After they close to maintain their goods and services, he may open their airlines with a new brand, so it has some probability to make the consumer belief increase again.
DeleteI think two of the most interisting cases are the execution in Saudi Arabia, and Australia ban Lion Air Company. First of all, executing a person who is actually not belong to that country, without telling the country which is the person related to, is of course a bad things to do. You can harm the family of the person's feeling though. For example, if you suddenly find out that one of your family has been executed without the country's permission, what will you feel? Hurt right, and of course it can also harm the relationship between two countries of course. It only brings more problem for the country. Second, the problem of Australia banning the Lion Air Company. Well, the positive thing is that it will cause trauma effect on the company so they can perform better. Because of course, if Australia ban Lion Air Company permanently, they will suffer decreases in their income. I think it is good that the minister of transportation in Indonesia discuss it with the Australia to not to ban the lion air company. Because of course it can solve the problem.
ReplyDeleteThe accident of Lion Air JT 610 had been severely ruining a lot of aspects of life in Indonesia. I was very saddened by the news, even if there was no victims that I be familiar with in person. Plane crash is in one of my so called “deepest dark fears” list. Funny thing is, I’ve spent the past two months travelling with Lion Air and I feel so terrible now that I don’t want to travel with Lion Air anymore for at least the next few months. I think it’s really awful how it happened. A plane carrying that massive amount of people’s lives should be highly maintained and controlled for its safety of technical stuff that people actually shouldn’t be afraid of anymore because they already pay a lot of money. Lion Air should have fix their reputation by first maybe doing a press conference because I think until now people haven’t know the exact reason why it crashed.
ReplyDeleteI think, the most interesting news is about the ban of Lion Air by Australia, we know that Lion Air has been known for their tons of mistakes and accidents occurred throughout their service as a budget airline. For me, the ban of Lion Air is something that’s unnecessary thing to be done since accidents do happen, and we cannot predict when and where’s going to take place in this world, since the latest case from Lion Air’s missing aircraft is a new aircraft which’s been only used several times, from this we can judge that Australia is just doing something unnecessary which in this case can lead to the harm and the ruining of the Indonesian flight services since Lion has been known as one of the airline company which provides an affordable service for people to travel. Despite the lack of facilities and many aspects needs to be improved, Lion Air still considered as one of the oldest airline company in Indonesia which’s been operating since around 18 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the minister of Indonesia to protests this execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia. In my opinion, the government of Saudi Arabia don’t have the rights to execute Tursilawati who is an Indonesian citizen without communication with Indonesian government. I am sure that Tursilowati didn’t have any support back then since she was accused in other people’s country without her own country knowing. She should have been having a lawyer, or some other support that she has the rights to have. And also, Tursilowati killed her employer’s father because he was sexually abused her. So maybe in that time she didn’t have a choice but to kill the father of her employer, because it is one of the natural devensive way. Saudi Arabia need to pay more attention to human rights and also pay more respect to other country from the suspect’s home country. This way, countries will not have any arguments and could live in peace
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, it is a little unfair for Australia to ban Lion air in operating in their country. The first reason is because this accident that affects Lion AIr is an accident that can not be predicted at all. No one want this accident to happen, but this is God’s plan and we could not resist from it. This kind of plane accident is 1 in so many plane rides everyday, and no one would actually hope for one of them to crash. So, Australia could not ban Lion air because of this one accident. Second reason is that when Australia banning this certain airline which is Lion air, the reputation of Lion air will be bad. Well we all know that we don’t know exactly why this airplane crashed, and who knows that Lion air did some mistake. But we also should not be close to other probabilities
ReplyDeleteI would like to discuss the news regarding the execution of Tursilawati as an Indonesian citizen who worked in Saudi Arabia. According to Tursilawati’s mother, she was experienced sexual abuse by the father of her employer. As a form of self-defense, her actions went uncontrolled and resulting to the death of the father of her employer. Personally, I do not agree with the decision made by the Saudi Arabia legal enforcement. I think it is best to further discussed the case with the Indonesian Government to make a better decision for both parties. The decision made is considered to be one sided as it is based only from one perspective which is the Saudi Arabia Government side. As a result, Tursilawati’s family experienced injustice and create further conflicts. From this issue, the Indonesian Government should learn the importance of international relation and communication to regulate such misunderstanding that can create serious conflicts.
ReplyDeleteLet me be clear. Killing someone, no matter what the other did to you, is wrong. It is only justifiable as an ultimate attempt of self-defence. We should not take the right in our own hands and leave the decision of what is right and wrong to the court. I also strongly disagree with the death penalty. I don’t think that the government should be able to kill someone. Moreover, I believe that life imprisonment is inhuman. In my opinion, everybody should have a chance on release, on the condition that they behaved well during their time in prison. I noticed that my opinion differs from most Indonesians. Therefore I would be happy to hear what their arguments are for their opinion. The only argument I can think of is the financial one. Since killing someone is much cheaper than putting someone in jail for decades. Still, I don’t think there can be put a price on a human life.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the decision of the Australian government to ban Lion Air from its airspace. I have to confess that I didn’t follow the news about the missing airplane too much, but as far as I know the plane already had some problems. The plane already knew some inconveniences on its way to Jakarta and as far as I know, they were aware of this. Before departure they even discovered that the plane was not repaired yet and did a double check. In my opinion, if you know all this, you can only let this plane depart when you are 200% sure that it is save. This was certainly not the case, with all its consequences as result. Don’t take any offence if you do, but I feel disgusted by the people who dismiss this accident as the will of god. Since they know nothing about the people that were inside and that probably did nothing wrong their entire life.
ReplyDeleteI am interested to talk about the issue of Lion Air. It is common to see people in Indonesia talking about the deficiency of Lion Air. The airline company is well-known for its bad reputation. A number of delays and incidents have occurred since the first time it flew on Indonesian airspace. Recently, another incident had happened. JT 610 was a regular flight serving passengers from Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang. It’s said that the pilot is one of the best pilot with a high flying hours. It’s also said that the weather on the day the aircraft PK-LQP took off for the last time was also clear. So the question is: What has happened? Some analysis and speculation lead to the technical problem of the aircraft. There has been a rumour spread in public that the aircraft was actually not in the right condition to fly, but the company still used it to serve this route. Now, why does Lion still ‘make people fly’ regardless of the bad reputation that they have? Why can’t the government charge them with serious bans or other alternatives? It is ironic that three months before this incident, the EU has lifted ban on Indonesian airlines after charging it to them for almost a decade. Now, Australia is the one who gives the ban. Rusdi Kirana, the CEO of Lion Air, once said “My airline would be the worst on the world, but you still need it.” We could say that he is being arrogant, but we can’t deny the truth that there are still many Indonesian are relying to Lion Air. Nevertheless, Lion Air was the first low-cost airline in Indonesia who connected more people from one island to another.
ReplyDeleteTursilawati is not the first Indonesian who was executed in the Saudi Arabia. There was Muhammad Zaini Musrin from Madura who was sentenced to death for killing his employer on 2008. Yanti Irianti was executed on the same year as Zaini. Ruyati, Siti Zaenab, and Karni were also sentenced to death with different reasons. In total, there were six Indonesian migrant who received death penalty in Saudi Arabia since 2005. This doesn’t include other Indonesian workers in other countries. I believe that there are ways to avoid the same incident to occur again in the future. I know that the government has tried their best to provide trainings and developing their skill before the departure. But, the fact that there are mafias and illegal migrant bureau in Indonesia, it made the monitoring process became more difficult. I would suggest the government to utilize all the Indonesian embassies overseas to make a regular contact with all Indonesian migrant workers. This can be done in many different ways, one of which is by making a regular assembly or gathering night. The government should also include this gathering night as a mandatory article in the MoU between stakeholders, therefore the employer of the migrant worker has no right to prohibit our migrant worker on going to the assembly.
ReplyDeleteAfter the deadly crash of Lion Air flight 610, a lot of countries might have put more concern towards the airline. Not to mention Australia, country with several airlines ranked on world’s safest travel institution. It was intended to ban its citizen to fly with Lion Air concerning safety matters due to the fatal accident occurring in October 29th, 2018. In the past, the United States and the European Union have managed to prohibit Indonesian airlines to fly within their airspace, including Lion Air. Indonesia was even being a country with the most banned airlines in the European Union amounting 55 aviation brands. But then both the US and the EU lifted its prohibition on Lion Air. The crash dings the worldwide society to renew their concern towards the airline. Other significant factors that doubt the public was its reputation for long and often delays, as well as its severe safety records of accident and sacked pilot due to consuming crystal meth.
ReplyDeleteThe execution of Tursilawati breaks my heart. Tursilawati was an Indonesian housekeeper who worked in Saudi Arabia and was convicted murder towards the father of the employer although the only reason why she did that is that she was raped and it was an act of defense. The question is; why would the Saudi government give her a death sentence? She did not start the fire, if only the employer's father did not try to rape her, killing him would never cross her mind. Aside from that, the Arab government did not notify the Indonesian government prior to executing her, although the Indonesian minister of the international affair, as well as the Indonesian ambassador for Saudi Arabia, have put their best effort in protecting Tursilawati and begged for mercy. It is a pity on how the Saudi government did not respect Indonesia's position in this case especially that Indonesia supplies a lot of migrant workers yearly. Aside from that, Saudi also failed to protect migrant labor which means it has violated the international law.
ReplyDeleteThe case for execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia is actually saddening because what Tursilawati did was a form of self-defense. There is a fair or reasonable cause in favor of Tursilawati who was sentenced to death in 2011 on charges of consciously killing the father of her employer, which is his attempt to sexually abuse her. In addition, it is unfair for Saudi Arabia party to do the execution of Tursilawati without informing the Indonesian Government beforehand. Saudi Arabia has violated the law or obligation to give notice and consular access about the issue. This may question the safety of Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. It is a relieve to know that Indonesian minister has strongly protested the execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia, that they will question and seek an explanation about the case, meaning that the government of Indonesia still shows an act of care to migrants.
ReplyDeleteThe recent founding of an archeological megalithic statues in Papua is very amusing for me. I love learning any kind history regardless what terms is it into, and to read there is another piece of history found in Indonesia it could not be more exciting. According to this article, this megalithic statues is polynesian styled which proves that the Polynesians had reached Papua centuries ago, Polynesian is well-known for their ability to sail the ocean for thousands of miles with just a simple traditional boat they had, they already sailed from Chile in southern America to the southeast asia which is a remarkable achievement. I still want to know more about these founding of megalithic statues in Papua because what is the reason that brings the Polynesian to come to papua and made statues, is it to mark their presence or it is made for religious ceremony to worship their god or even for something else.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with the death penalty for Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia. In my opinion when we work in other countries, we automatically have to follow the rules in that country. As we know that Saudi Arabia is a country that uses Islamic law or referred to as sharia law, when we kill people we will get the same punishment, namely the death penalty. In Tursilawati's case, she was initially treated badly by her employer, but killing was not the best solution. There are many other solutions that can be done instead of doing murder because revenge will never solve a problem. As Indonesians we must respect these rules and not intervene in any form. The thing that must be done by the government is to provide more education to migrant workers who work in Saudi Arabia so that problems like this do not happen again in the future
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, i’m going to talk about the case related to the execution of Tursilawati in Saudi Arabia. I think the action made by the Saudi Arabia to executed Tursilawati without informing her origin country is can be considered as a cruel and unethical decision. I think so because there are many reasons why they should make a notification about this problem. First of all, it’ll allowed the Indonesian government to find out and help more on the investigation of this case, therefore the end result or the verdict will not be biased. Second of all, informing the Indonesian government is also important because therefore the Indonesian government will be able to notify Tursilawati’s family regarding the case she’s been involved in. By doing this, if somehow Tursilawati was still pledge guilty, at least her family could see her for the last time before the execution. I’m totally disappointed with the way Saudi Arabian government manage this case unilaterally.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, our relationship and diplomatic relations with Malaysia is one of the most important compared to other nations. We are both founding members of ASEAN and also related in many ways (serumpun or same ancestral ways). Sharing the island of Borneo with them, we also have a responsibility to not only protect our environment, but also theirs because the ecosystem is shared in the island. We also have to consider the people living in the border areas, as the article suggests.
ReplyDeleteProtecting our own border is more important. If we decide not to care for the people living in these areas, they could potentially move the borders to give more land for Malaysia as it has happened in the past. They could be lured by the other side to move and trade their Indonesian citizenship. This is why our border areas are important, especially our land borders. The government should never forget about the people living there and make sure everything is provided as it should be.
What hurts the most is realizing of someone’s death after a long time after their death. Not only is it not ethical to do a death sentence to someone without notifying their family, but it is diplomatically unprofessional for Saudi Arabia to do such actions. Especially when we think about our solidarity with Saudi Arabia just to know that they have done such things to our citizen that is residing there. And not only that, but it is questionable whether her rights were fulfilled when she was being tested on the killings of her boss. Because we wouldn’t know if she had her full rights when we could not defend her. Because from past cases of killing bosses, there are reasons on why these things happen and it can be questionable whether or not her reasons were listened by the state. So for Indonesia, we should stand up to this and give sanctions to Saudi Arabia whether it is from their sales towards us or something else that can show them that we are a proud country that cannot be played with. This actions of Saudi Arabia indicates the understatement of Indonesia as a partner of Saudi Arabia.
