i saw you shopping at the mall
someone's arm around your waist
i know it was 'No Contest' at all
but boy this healing's got a taste
and i don't know
what to think
and what to do
because i made all my moves
i made them with you
because i was no shaker
and i was no mover
i hear you talking through our boys
your slanted stories and little ploys
a change for the better
all in all, you said
but why does your happiness
need to make me feel
so small?
because i feel like
i owe you everything
do you feel like you
owe me anything?
anything at all?
i'm not sure this is
where i want to be
but I'm moving forward
and that's good enough for me
my glass is half full
that's just the way i see
so i'm wishing you well now
as you be who you need to be
and now i know
what to think
and what to do
i'll just make all my moves
and i'll make them without you
because i'm not shaken
i'm just moving on
I think this poem would be an excellent motivator or at least a helping factor on somebody who has been heartbroken and has failed to move on. The line 'I'm not sure this is where I want to be' really speaks about the feeling of longing felt after a heartbreak and how it makes you completely helpless and insecure about your place as if you have forgotten how to live normally without your significant other by your side. But by the end of the poem the writer has decided to quit moping and wallowing in self guilt and pity and just learn to move on with life even though it might not be what his heart wanted it is definitely the best option for him. The line 'I'm just moving on' shows the writer seemingly still unconvinced about his decision yet still chooses it as it will help him, hopefully, be a better person.
ReplyDeleteOf all the poems that come up this blog, by far this is the deepest one to me. It hits right in the chest. Maybe because i think the experience that this poem’s writer is going through can happen to any of our lives. I take this poem’s point of view as a divorced couple. The writer explains every thing that he feels about having the time to experience such thing in life. It is not easy, for both sides. But this poem just contemplates how hard the writer is trying to survive all the feels. Also the writer mentions about the boys, which makes me assume that the writer’s couple has found another one to try build a new life. Now the writer is left with nothing, but a will to move on with his life regardless of other people’s situation.
ReplyDeleteUsually, poetry like this is made by people who are experiencing a broken heart because the words used are very deep and touching. For me, this poem describes a love story that ends in sadness. Not infrequently we find stories like this in real life. When a couple decides not to be together, and one of them has succeeded in moving on from his relationship with finding a new person, there is another person who is still stuck in his feelings. For me, this poem describes someone who loves her very much, this is illustrated by the sad atmosphere she experienced when he saw his ex-lover with someone else. In the end, he must struggle to move on and convince himself for their good together. However, if I associate with the real world, to move on from someone we have loved too deeply is not an easy thing and requires a long time.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is very relatable for anyone experiencing tough times especially broken heart. Moving on is a hard thing to do because essentially, you are trying to let go, let go of the memories you have had with a certain someone which is still stuck in your head. Your brain and your heart have different opinions which could hurt you, sometimes moving on is not as easy as it looks, there are times where you are at your very low, you just have to accept it and move on. When you broke up with someone, and if he/she is doing good with their lives you should be happy for them and wish them well. If they can do good, why can't you? there are less fortunate people in the world, worrying about your ex-lover is just wasting time. The sun is always shining above the thick clouds. Do not regret anything, take it as a lesson and move on.
ReplyDeleteI don't read poems a lot, because they are usually confusing to read about and I don't understand the message behind them, which is why I've never posted a comment under the poem blog posts but I really liked reading this poem. It really shows the feeling of heartbreak that someone feels after a breakup. It's sad to read at the beginning because they are not together anymore and to read the pain the person felt when they saw their ex already dating someone else. It's not easy to get over someone you dated and loved (maybe even still love) and the memories you have. But at the end of the poem, the writer realizes that he should let his ex go and move forward instead of being sad and heartbroken all the time. He forces himself to move on and find his own happiness, the same way she had moved on and dated someone else to find her new happiness.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this poem, I realize that this poem is about a person that is unable to move on from his past love. After reading this poem I remembered a sad song called Happier by Ed Sheeran. This song is about seeing how happier your ex is with his/her new lover than when s/he was with you. Honestly, Happier by Ed Sheeran was the song I listened to when I broke up with my ex. This poem reminded me of the time when I was trying to forget someone. For me, moving on is never easy. When I broke up with my ex, I started to develop feelings of guilt. The guilt made me blame myself for ruining the relationship. I started to think what if I had said that instead of this, or done this instead of this. Through time I realized that I was wrong for blaming myself and I also realized that I can’t go back in time and change the situation.
ReplyDeleteIn general, a poem has its deep and shallow interpretation and is basically free for everyone with every perspective to interpret. The interpretation that I got was an example where we think we belong to something or we can rely to something but it ends up being useless for us. In my view, I can feel an element of being disappointed in investing my time for a specific set of skill but ending up not being in our favor. For example, if I liked horseback riding and I invest all my time in it by training everyday and learning about the theories that are available on horseback riding but when it comes to the time where I need to prove myself, I failed and this is the feeling that I would feel. “Don’t you feel like you owe me anything at all?”, this is the ultimate feeling of being betrayed on something we invested something so much but ending up failing us.
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, this poem really touched my heart. From all the poems I have read in this blog, this one moved me the most. There is something with this poem’s words that connects with me. I would like to share my thoughts about this particular verse.
ReplyDeleteand now i know
what to think
and what to do
i'll just make all my moves
and i'll make them without you
I think this verse is very suitable for whoever feels like they lose someone. Someone who used to be around to share the laugh, the tears, and the thoughts. Yet, the person is now gone, you suddenly have to adapt to the life without them. You have to adapt very fast because the show must go on. You cannot be sad for too long, you have got to think about yourself, too. Reach for yourself, no matter how deep they drown you. Eventually, you will be able to manage living without them.
This poem called Not Shaken talked about how someone let go of someone they love. This poem shows that those journey called “moving on” is not easy. It needs extra effort, perseverance, and the most important thing, letting go principle. I am touched with the saying from the poem “But why does your happiness need to make me feel so small? “ I guess that this saying show how hard it is to moving on, or I can say the hardest thing about moving on, see someone we love feel happy with anyone else and not with us. The second last part about this poem “’ll just make all my moves, and i'll make them without you”, show that eventually, it is necessary for us to be able to moving on and continue our life, because life doesnt end there right? We have to always know when and what to do next in our life.
ReplyDeleteThis poem tells about someone that lost their love and has to move on. This is a sad poem and I know that a lot of people could relate to this poem. Because a lot of people definitely experienced something called break ups and move ons. I also know that break ups is not easy, because we have to be separate from someone we used to be with, and face days after that without our loved one. Moving on is even harder, because it need our big effort to be able to forget our previous loved one and start to see someone else or at least just not think about our previous loved one anymore. From this poem, I can also see the sadness because our loved one has already found their new happiness, and of course it is hard for us or anyone else to see our happiness feel happy without us. But that is life, and whether you like it or not you have to know how to face it.
ReplyDeleteThis is sad, it reminds me of Gotye’s song titled as Somebody That I Used to Know. I don’t know, I can’t stand if somebody moved on so fast from my life or worst, cheating. It makes me feel worthless. And the poem really put me in the position where I was in those condition. This poem is surprisingly easy to understand. Your post about poem earlier in this semester, I find it hard to understand. Or maybe it’s just that I cannot relate to your poem. Personally I really like poem, I used to have a blog containing my poem since I was in a late junior high until my senior year. My girlfriend is also like to sending me a poem about anything. I wanted to read “professional” poet’s poem but I don’t have a reference of where should I start. Poems is not an everyday conversation for me so maybe if I had a chance, I’ll ask people about recommendation. Thank you so much sir for uploading this to the blog.
ReplyDeleteI personally think that this poem is about moving on. Well it must be really hard for some people or maybe for every people to leave something valuable for us in the past. In this case, I think this poem is trying to tell us a hidden meaning about letting our past love go. Letting go is really hard. Letting someone from your life go is just like letting half of your life go. What I’m trying to say here is like for example usually you do everything in your daily basis with him or her and then suddenly one day you have to do everything just only by yourself. I mean, can you imagine if one day you just lose something you really love, or in this case, someone you really love. Especially when it comes to someone that you love wholeheartedly. It feels like you lost it, almost like you got nothing left. It all seems over. Let us just deal with it. Losing someone is never going to be easy if you truly were in love with that person. It will take some time, and it surely will hurt but you will get over it.
ReplyDeleteHealing ourselves from a broken heart is not easy. But we don’t have a choice. Whether we want it or not, time will always pass by. We are moving along, with every passing second. Try to focus more on yourself. Me personally, I always keep myself occupied at all times. For example, if I have a job to do, I try to give my best in it. At the other times, I do some ‘me time’ like shopping, watching drama series, or just simply going to the gym. Just get over it. Think about it. In your life, you will see many loses. Try to not to think about it, because the more you think you need to move on, the more love and attachment comes to you. Just let it happen naturally. Don’t worry because this world is full of good people with great and golden hearts. Just always keep in your mind that every bad experience is a learning. So learn from it.
DeleteFrom the poems that has been posted in the EWS blog this is the one that i actually read and understand. I am not a guy that really likes poem because of readers needs to interpret some of the poems more and people who doesn't have the skill will sometimes be confused when interpreting very advance poems. In this poem the phrase that i really like the most is the 6th phrase.
ReplyDeletebecause i feel like
i owe you everything
do you feel like you
owe me anything?
anything at all?
I like this phrase because of me having the same situation of it right now. It really has very deep true meaning to the relationship that i am now having. It really has a true meaning because of me having the confusion of whether the girl that i have been dating has a true feelings for me. That is why i like poems about love very much.
This poem tells a story about a man who saw the girl that he loved is with someone else at the shopping mall. There is someone's arm around her waist. Seeing that makes the man felt heartbroken. He knows that loving someone is not a contest. He doesn't know what to do after feeling heartbroken, he can't think clearly. He still doesn't believe in reality because he already sacrifices everything for her. He felt so sad and hurt because her happiness is hurting him. He still questioning about her and can't accept the reality that she's happy with someone else after all this time together. The man knows that he can't be sad forever, he have to move on from her because that is the best choices to do. In the end, he let her go and chase her own happiness with someone else. He knows that he have to do everything by his own since then.
ReplyDeleteThis poem is pretty tragic. I'm kind of felt sad for the people in the poem. I think this poem is talking about loving a girl but then the girl didn't love him. He already do a lot of things and sacrifices everything for her but in the end she ends up with another man. I believe that it feels very hurt to see someone who means the world for us, that we loved so much with all of our hearts, end up with someone else. We could see that the boy felt very heartbroken and confuse about what to do next. He still didn't believe at reality at the first because it doesn't feels like its real. I believe that all of us want to end up with someone that we loved right? But, we can't always get what we want. If our loved one didn't love us, the best solution is to let they go because they happiness is what matter. What we have to do is just move on and leave everything in the past. It will hurt at first, but I believe that time will heal our broken heart.
