John Lennon
"Imagine"
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today... Aha-ah...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace... You...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world... You...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

"Mull Of Kintyre"
Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea
My desire is always to be here
Oh Mull of Kintyre
Far have I traveled and much have I seen
Darkest of mountains with valleys of green
Past painted deserts the sun sets on fire
As he carries me home to the Mull of Kintyre
Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea
My desire is always to be here
Oh Mull of Kintyre
Sweep through the heather like deer in the glen
Carry me back to the days I knew then
Nights when we sang like a heavenly choir
Of the life and the times of the Mull of Kintyre
Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea
My desire is always to be here
Oh Mull of Kintyre
Smiles in the sunshine and tears in the rain
Still take me back where my memories remain
Flickering embers go higher and higher
As they carry me back to the Mull of Kintyre
Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea
My desire is always to be here
Oh Mull of Kintyre
Mull of Kintyre, oh mist rolling in from the sea
My desire is always to be here
Oh Mull of Kintyre

"You're Sixteen"
You come on like a dream, peaches and cream,
Lips like strawberry wine.
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine. (mine, all mine)
You're all ribbons and curls, ooh, what a girl,
Eyes that sparkle and shine.
You're sixteen, you're beautiful and you're mine.
(mine, all mine, mine, mine)
You're my baby, you're my pet,
We fell in love on the night we met.
You touched my hand, my heart went pop,
Ooh, when we kissed, i could not stop.
You walked out of my dreams, into my arms,
Now you're my angel divine.
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine.
You're my baby, you're my pet,
We fell in love on the night we met.
You touched my hand, my heart went pop,
Ooh, when we kissed, i could not stop.
You walked out of my dreams, into my car,
Now you're my angel divine.
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine.
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine.
You're sixteen, you're beautiful, and you're mine.
All mine, all mine, all mine.
All mine, all mine, all mine.
All mine, all mine, all mine, all mine, but i do.
You are mine!
What shall we do with the drunken sailor?
What shall we do with the drunken sailor?

I have listened to all the songs mentioned, mostly because of my dad and the songs he listens to in the car. My favourite out of all would have to be Imagine by John Lennon. It’s a legendary song, and I think almost everyone knows it. The lyrics are amazing. Even though it’s an old song, I think the lyrics still apply to our world today, maybe even more than before. John Lennon is asking us to imagine a world where we all live as one. There are nothing that divides us, such as heaven and hell, religion, and countries. He sees it as a better place to live, where everything is in peace. There are no people fighting over different beliefs, races, and etc. This song has a strong message wrapped in a beautiful music and melody. I watched the TV series “Glee”, which has a cover of this song. And when I listened to it and watched the scene, I cried. Even now after re watching the scene I still cry a little bit.
ReplyDeleteMy other favourite song out of the four is You’re Sixteen by Ringo Starr. I really like the melody, it’s very catchy. The lyrics are really nice, too. After searching about this song on Google, I found out that this song is written by the Sherman Brothers, who wrote a lot of motion-picture songs. They wrote film scores for a lot of Disney movies, such as Mary Poppins, The Jungle Books, and The Aristocats. However, their most popular song out of all is “It’s a Small World”, which is the song played in Disney theme parks.
DeleteThe song You’re Sixteen was first performed by Johnny Burnette in 1960, and this song became the motion picture soundtrack for American Graffiti in 1973. Then, Ringo Starr’s version of You’re Sixteen was released in December 1973. This song and performance reunited him with his former bandmate, Paul McCartney. Paul even sang a solo in the song.
The Beatles is one of my favourite rock band and it will always be. I think it is appropriate to embed the title of ‘legend’ to them. I consider myself lucky that I have had the opportunity to visit The Beatles Museum at Albert Dock in Liverpool. The museum displays the story of the formation of The Beatles and also the story of each of the members’ personal lives. I have also got the opportunity to visit the pub where they used to perform back then. These experiences are also the reason why I admire this particular group band.. The four songs listed in this post were created by each Beatles member after the dismissal of the group. ‘Imagine’ is the most popular single created by John Lennon. Many people have linked the lyrics with religious issues. But for me, it is a masterpiece to encourage the listeners to reflect back on the intolerant behaviours they’ve ever committed.
ReplyDeleteIn my (unpopular) opinion, The Beatles are a good band, but a little bit overrated. I believe that they’re good and that they invented the modern music, but because they were first, does that make them the best? Don’t get me wrong, I respect them and their music a lot, but I just don’t think that they’re the Gods some think they are. I am aware of the fact that when I was born 50 years ago, my opinion might have been different, since I think that it must have been a crazy time.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose one favourite Beatle, I would pick George Harrison. He made this one song that I’m really fond of called “I got my mind set on you”. I especially like the beat and the drum parts. The first time I heard this song it was actually a cover by Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of the American rock band “The Killers”
I love the songs mentioned in the post, because I have listened to The Beatles all my life. The song I want to review is "Imagine", maybe because it was the first song I listened to in the list. "Imagine" was one of the well known songs of John Lennon, by most people in the world. The lyrics came from the heart and were delivered straight to the heart for people to emphatically feeling around the citizens of the whole wide world. Now, regarding the other songs on the list, I have to say that I didn't enjoyed it really well. Specifically for Paul McCartney, I prefer his older song, "Maybe I'm Amazed", since the song conveyed my feelings at a certain time. I hope that the review regarding the songs that I hsve written won't hurt other people's feelings, because this is purely and strictly just a comment about my feelings about the songs.
ReplyDeleteFrom the four songs above, the one I really like is Imagine by John Lennon. I’m sure that this song has different meanings for everyone, but for me this song is about how the world should be. In this song, Lennon imagine a world which there are no war, no hatred, no ownership of any kind, and also no religion. Many religious people have mix feelings about his songs, Imagine. On this song, one of the lyrics expressed that it would be a better world if all human imagine that there are no heaven and hell. Because of that many people thinks that Lennon try to change their beliefs. Personally, I don’t think that Lennon tried to change people’s beliefs. I think that he was trying to say about a world without countries, ownership, and religion would be a better world for all of us. The fact is that those things are the things that everybody fights over. So in my opinion, the things he said is true. Like Lennon, I also believe that the world would be much more different than how it is now if we don’t focus on those things. The truth is, we cannot take out the things that are already there. We can respect each other and try to work things out without dissing others beliefs.
